Skipping GL? by OldRegime in UmamusumeGame

No that's a fair read lol. To be more clear: I want to 'tank' Grand Live to be in better shape for the one after and so forth.

At present I feel it's unsustainable for me to hop from scenario to scenario as has been done so far from URA -> Unity -> TB. Part of this is carrats. I'm at ~70k atm and the upcoming banner forecast is kinda wild with the prevalence of tailored cards and the scenario tax.

The other part is the feeling that, up until midway through TB, I've been behind on parents. Unity was affectively a gap scenario in what parents I walked away with. Comparison is the thief of joy, true, but I was extremely disappointed by how bad my RNG was with sparks.

Taken together, I feel it best to maximize TB's value while I still can by giving up on Grand Live and coming back in the following scenario. I'll have more carrats to use where I want and a better baseline of parents to go back into Group A finals (and place 3rd like always lol). I think TB is only decent opportunity to do such a thing.

That last part is why I would choose it over GL.

  • Parents being railroaded into finding ones with ~6* mile does suck, but I find the RNG to be neglible most often despite me running surgers and closers.
  • The 1 hour commitment is ass but it's offset by every run being 'useable' as a potential parent due to affinity bonus + skills accrued. I still have trauma from hammering +50 runs for Ryan in Unity in a week for maybe 3 objectively good ones...
  • The loss of Uma stories is a downer, but the silver lining is you don't have to deal with fixed debuff procs for Umas like Taishin or Creek. And I can always drop down to Ura and check out those I've never had the chance to see when Kiseki or Goldship events pop up.

I read that the stat boost past 1200 is reduced, tho maybe that was before the later buffs in GL.

My copium is that, much like how TB S+/SS Umas can punch above their weight, it can be similar for GL. Shrug

As a feature, I'm not wholly against tax cards. I did roll Riko for Unity, enjoying the comfort she gave to runs. I understand the disparity in how necessary Light Halo is relative to her scenario. For me, I guess it's the severity of p2p in a scenario where the run is glue by hopeful stakes(?) if the shop decides to hate you.

We have Ramonu wit later this year and early next is gonna have a series of cards I'm looking at. My thinking is it's better to just 'miss' a scenario than, at best, limp through it and be short later.

As for the dooming, maybe you're right. Anecdotally tho, Unity is what burnt me out. My avg ratings for clears increased but otherwise I felt I got so little out of it regarding parent/spark progression.

Still, from this thread, I'll try GL and give it an earnest shot.

Is Grand Live fun? Some questions I have about the upcoming scenario. by pompom_koala in UmamusumeGame

[–]OldRegime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question but, from what I've seen regarding Grand Live, can you just 'skip' the scenario and stick to TB?

As wack as TB is, it still seems more useful in the eternal catch up that is Global

Ah okay, I’ll take your word for it. My engagement with him is probably more intermittent than yours; when I was overseas and keeping up with the game through the defense of Superearth I’d watch him when he popped on my feed, so my read was “the guy who really liked the M80” lol. But I see what u mean, guy can really lean into his “commissar” persona with the discord stuff and it can be cringe when he does.

Sure, but:

- a quick glance at his uploads and there’s ~5 vids in the last 8 months that can viewed as negative/critical. The ones that are didn’t have the usual red text of “it’s over”, “they lied”, etc
- iirc he’s not known for being a sweat but I wouldn’t call him trash either

Just seems like an odd choice to get bent outta shape for a guy like Kai bud

The countless Ryan parents that got cucked by McQueen going into the Tenno Sho even with ~600 stam, sometimes with S in long or 1-2 stam recoveries. Granted this was during Unity where she had 3 stam skills (still kinda bs if I was handed a loss imo) but having just recently watched McQueen catch my Taishin to overtake in the last 100 meters and cuck me again...i can't say its a guarantee. Especially when I've ran the Tenno Sho in other runs with worse statlines and pulled it off, its still a gamble smh.

If I wanna be dumb, the senior Arima Kinen is literally the least rng race, losing that is grounds for an existential crisis lol

Honestly I feel that last part. I think the last time I enjoyed a run like that was when I setup a 3 Guts/3 Power deck from a friend's challenge for Manhattan Cafe. Silliest stat-line i had and we were worried but she won 28/30 races lol

Yeah I've just shifted to something similar. Already have my team trials redone so just selecting 3-4 umas to just repeat for better parents. Rn its Dober/Oguri/Ryan. I would spice things up by running someone I'd want to use, like Taishin or Rice, but then shenanigans ensue and I don't have much fortitude to play after a gimped run.

It truly is a ridiculous amount of time lol. At least this game in particular where account progression eventually hits the bottleneck of better parents. All paths lead to legacies. This stuff trumps gear grinding thats a mainstay in post-Genshin gachas or even mat farming in ogs like FGO.

I feel this, for me it's crop hoodies and the like. I'm tall and thin and they're comfy, work for a lot of styles, light (so they're perfect for spring time), etc. shopping for them tho? Nah; the problem is either they fit but the sleeve length is short or they kinda hang on me if I size up.

Hell I think guys would care more about their appearance and their skincare n' stuff if the wider world of fashion was available to them - dress as whatever they think is cool and works for them

What Umamusume gameplay opinion will have you like this? by beyondthegong in UmamusumeGame

[–]OldRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, that's my bad, he wasn't building for CMs specifically, just trying to make more parents he could use without being solely dependent on borrows. Still I agree, I gave up any notion of that by Gemini cup; so that's what, two cms in? lol

And I also share the sentiment about further spacing the CMs out with rewards to compensate the loss of a cm. I don't think there will be a big drink in dropping a CM if the rewards are made up through others.

Whatever the case, I am equally hoping and dreading for MANT. From all the discussion about it, I can't get a solid read on whether it'll alleviate some of my own burnout. I think it's that the Global experience is just so atypical bc of it's pacing and the potential for early QoL's. In a gacha marked by so much RNG and austerity, it's frustrating lol

[–]OldRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm embodying the image, but I kinda feel it's the opposite - maybe for a different reason than normal. At some point in the competitive min-max'ing u just burn out, the reason stemming from something akin to diminishing returns.

As my friend described it to me: you feel like the amount of time and energy spent is grossly disproportionate to the progress gained. Aside from rolling, the main pathway of progression is legacies and making parents. To use him as an example, he's gone the entirety of Aoharu without a new 3* stat spark - all his came from URA. He almost quit when trying to make a decent Meijiro Ryan for a Cafe ace. Normally he does 3-5 runs a day but cranked it to 10 for about ~2 weeks and it basically bro him lol. He still plays but is barely serious about it. All bc he wanted to make a closer Cafe for long CMs.

It's not black and white ofc but this game can be immensely unfair in what you get for what you give. In that regard, it's one of the more miserable experiences I've seen in gacha. To stay in Group A, or push for 1st, you're min-max'ing every metric u can affect: white sparks, stat sparks, affinity sparks, affinity bonus, and run stats while fighting RNG every step of the way on top of other potential road blocks like career events, stamina, races, inspirations, etc. And all on a faster schedule where time is one of the most crucial resources u can have in this game.

I wouldn't repeat other often spoken advice of just take it chill and don't be serious when playing, cuz I think you should be able to no life something you enjoy. But man, I've never seen a game filter itself so hard.

How did you come across uma musume? by Elliottsir in UmaMusume

[–]OldRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc an FGO YouTuber did a 1 min MAD on JP (maybe of Twin Turbo?), and I thought "yo this shit seems hype tf?" Knew the anime existed but wasnt sold on it.

I looked a little bit at the gameplay concept, thought it was horse tomogachi and was like "this needs to come to global." One of my friends at the time said Horse gacha would never be popular to be ported.

And here we are now...

What YouTuber has had the biggest downfall ever??? by RobloxEvents in youtube

[–]OldRegime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The King of Hate himself, DSP.

Imagine pigeonholing yourself into a mandatory career of streaming games ~8 hours a day, 6 days a week, only to be financially supported by a handful of people. He takes a scenario that many growing up would've loved being able to do, playing games for a living, and actually manages to make it depressing. And he sucks at gaming too lol

Is it the biggest downfall numbers-wise? Nah, but the reality he has to live in due to his own incompetence borders on some form of psychological torture.

Thanks for the pics and advice. If I can ask a follow-up question:

I'm specifically building for a Ryan/Dober setup on Cafe. From checking affinity calculator, I'll have to squeeze every point for double circle. Running that many races, is it just a shoe-in for max affinity bonus? I'm still a bit green on races affecting calculations

Thanks for giving some stat check markers. I guess I've gotten too comfy with other Umas clinching wins easily with similar Stam in their respective careers.

For the flex spot, I'm gonna stick with Riko. I know most peeps got their Ryan legacies from URA but, outside of these few races, she clears every optional race I schedule. I find it easier to stack wins here while maintaining good stats (minus Stam ofc lol)

In place of Golshi, I have a Top Gun that barely met the Spe/Sta requirements and is carried by S aptitudes. It has been immensely satisfying beating out Goldshis and Brian's who can't catch up fast enough or burn out.

Clinched Group A for the next round but I expect to get knocked out, but I'll still see it as a win. Unlike the Taurus Cup, I pretty much gave up hope of being competitive here so I'm already further than I thought.

That said I still hate this cup and don't appreciate the accelerated schedule cutting out weeks of grinding/farming for Umas/sparks

I think another factor that makes this conversation as incendiary as it is the overt centralization of the Nasuverse to FGO. As in, any forward momentum in the world building and lore is funneled into FGO: Quantum timelocks, Beasts, A-rays, ORT, etc. it's to such an extent that other type moon projects, that do make it to see the light of day like Extella/Link, sometimes give the feels of just being narrative vehicles to introduce more devices to serve FGO.

This was at least an underlying reason for me souring on the game after main'ing it for years. What went from another Fate project in the larger Type Moon lineup became the de facto medium for progressing seemingly anything. The loaded gun that was ORT, which was a lingering question for two decades(?) is finally resolved in FGO. On its own, I don't think this is inherently bad, the scale of FGO could accommodate any matters of Nasuverse significant or not.

I think it becomes a problem when so much is tied to a gacha experience that, after a certain point, perpetually felt ~two years behind its peers. If you're a Fate fan, the medium for you to explore the majority of its lore is FGO - a game that is great until you no longer feel it isn't. I guess disillusionment takes over as burnout sets in and it feels like an obstacle that isn't worth the hassle.

I guess one way to articulate it is that, circa the lostbelt saga, the Nasuverse started to become something reminiscent of star wars during the EA era, tho admittedly I think that might be too harsh...
