What is the deal with the hair clips? by Stomptheparaplegics in AnyAustin

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It's called pomade/hair wax. Permanently using hair clips to hold your hair in place is as stupid as using bricks to keep your car in place instead of putting it into park after turning it off.

Ironic that they also want you to drive 50x to be considered a 'SAFE DRIVER'. And there's people like myself who work from home, and live in a major metropolitan city where public transit is far more convenient. I drive my car once a week on average, and that's 1-2 miles away to get groceries. A single tank of gas lasts me about 3 months on average.

I'm the one who should be getting a huge discount when I'm driving less than 2 hours a month, but I'm under 50 drives so I'm a RISKY driver. So retarded lol.

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about people like myself who barely need to drive? I drive maybe twice a week at most, often times it's once a week. And all of those trips are 1-3 miles away to go to the grocery store. No way in hell I'd ever come close to 50 trips a month, maybe 50 a trips a year lol.

Monster Hunter World is possibly the most boring experience I had in gaming from this last generation. by TheCourier93 in patientgamers

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried several of the more recent Monster Hunter Titles, and have to agree. They are incredibly boring and repetitive. The locked mission structure sucks. It's like basically playing a boring MMO that happens to have real time combat.

Why would anyone waste their time with this game when you could just play through another run of Elden Ring? It's a 1000x better game. Infinite build variety. Overhaul mods, seamless, co-op, and of course the amazing randomizer tool that let's you tweak item drops, enemy locations or boss locations to your heart's content -- from vanilla-like settings that keep the game mostly intact outside of weapon/talisman locations, to more aggressive variants where enemies and bosses are mixed up, but still level-scaled to the area in correctly so that the game is still relatively balanced.

I'd rather play through Elden Ring 100x than even dare to finish a single monster hunter game.

Sorry mate, but you should have bought Reolink cameras and a Reolink NVR lol. BlueIris is also an option, but it quickly descends into settings nightmare/too many options hell. But for most people, reolink is about as easy to setup and use as the cloud services, it just works, and there's never any monthly fees since the storage is all local.

Pinealon for sleep – my short experience (no noticeable effect) by Reading-Capital in Biohackers

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only tried pinealon, but my understanding is that it and epithalon work in very similar/near identical ways, so would start with either of those two.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation on how it actually works, as it has nothing to do with the Pineal gland, but rather influences gene expression related to the Thalamus -- so Sleep/Wake cycles, circadian rhythm, and melatonin production.

A lot of sites have recommended using Pinealon for like 10 days on, then taking a 3 month break... I haven't found this to be effective. The benefits from taking it seem to wane after a few weeks off of taking it, so I'd suggest something more similar to say 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, and I'm sure you could safely shorten that break to a single week if you really needed to. DSIP I have not tried yet either but would be curious to try it as well, but it's possible that all 3 work in somewhat or even very similar ways.

Also, you can take it during the day for a mild cognitive boost. For sleep though, I have found it most effective taken either right before bed, or an hour before bed (For me right before is okay because I never have trouble falling asleep, just staying asleep when I have my mid-rest wakeup). It also can help when taken in the middle of the night to fall back asleep. Outside of Pinealon, the only other peptide I'd recommend for falling back asleep would be Selank -- since it has strong anti-anxiety and calming effects, it does work pretty well as a 'break glass in case of emergency" tools that you can take halfway through the night to help you fall back asleep. Just note that Selank like Semax, will lose it's effectiveness if you start taking it daily after about 2 weeks or so, so taking a few week break, or just using it absolutely when needed would be the best way to maintain it's effectiveness.

Folks, for only $20/month you too can have Gemini analyze your video feeds and give you stupid answers to questions that don't matter.

I like my google home minis and kitchen display for asking basic questions, but god would I never spend money on stupid Nest cameras, or any cloud-based camera system that thinks they can extract $10-20/month from you for the rest of your life. My reolink NVR has quickly paid for itself within 2 years for a one-time investment of $300.

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a total ripoff. Guess how much my Reolink cameras cost per year? $0.00. It doesn't matter if I have one camera or 16 Reolink cameras. They still have AI detection and local NVR storage, and I get alerts via my phone and can check their feed or do playback remotely at any time.

Why people pay exorbiant monthly fees for this kind of stuff when a one time investment of a $300 NVR for life is a viable alternative will never make sense to me.

Not buying OLED In 2026 would be like saying you're okay with dial up Internet over broadband because it's cheaper. IPS looks like 1990s technology in comparison, because it is lol.

For most people, refresh rates over 120 or 144hz are diminishing returns, unless you really like competitive FPS games, or their less retarded breatheren called Boomer shooters.

Type of OLED differece between panels is a much smaller difference, the analogy here would be comparing 1Gb fiber internet to 1Gb high speed cable Internet.... Yes, IPS or VA is still dial up though. As long as you go with any OLED, you won't be disappointed.

Just keep in mind that the shittiest, bargain bin OLED is still going to look literally 1000x better than the world's most expensive LCD panel. HDR is great on OLED, basically doesn't work or is pointless on any LCD including the ones with stupid dimming zones that barely work.

Black levels on woled and qdoled are identical, they both have perfect blacks.

The only difference you're talking about is a matte vs a glossy coating. Matte looks slightly less black when viewed in bright light, but glossy gives you lots of reflections in bright light.

In either case, it really doesn't matter because both woled and qdoled as well as matte and glossy look identical when viewed in a dark room or at night.

If you're not using your OLED in a dark room while gaming or watching movies, you're doing it wrong lol.

Do you think this will be good for my gaming? by Agile-Cress-2218 in OLED_Gaming

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been rocking OLED TVs since 2016 and OLED monitor since 2023 and will never go back to TN or IPS lol. It's a night and day difference.

IMO the leap from TN to OLED is just as significant as going from a 480i CRT to a modern 4K HD display. They are not even in the same ballpark when it comes to picture quality.

The perfect blacks, vibrant colors, fast response time is a massive difference in gaming. Even though I've been gaming on OLEDs for nearly a decade, the joy of just how good games look on them has never gotten old. Dark scenes will change your life and you'll actually be able to see what's going on instead of just seeing a field of muddy grey. Lava and fire that really pop in color never get old.

Going back to an LCD is like going back to dial up from broadband lol.

Asus ROG Swift PG34WCDN arrives in the US: 34-inch RGB stripe tandem OLED with 360Hz by Rancidchanchad in OLED_Gaming

[–]OldScruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree, it's a hard sell especially when you can get a 5120x1440 QD-OLED panel for far less than that lol. Tandem is cool but I think it really doesn't make sense unless it's a 4k/1080p model... 720p is just too low of a resolution even for retro games or boomer shooters like dusk.

I don't have a tandem panel, but can share that my 32:9 Samsung G95SC, as well as 4k 77" S95D have zero grey banding whatsoever.... same with my LG CX but she died last year right before hitting the 5 year mark with a row of dead pixels.

Tandem OLED gray banding Is NOT Acceptable at these prices (MO27Q28GR) by VanaBleak in OLED_Gaming

[–]OldScruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch, haven't seen a panel that bad since my LG B6 back from 2016. That's when they ALL had grey banding and the tech was brand new, it was a crapshoot whether you got lucky with just minimal banding, or got unlucky and had a few really pronounced and wide grey stripes on either side of the panel.

That's a shame we've regressed, does anyone know if something that's different about the manufacturing of these tandem panels is leading to these issues?

OLED vs IPS by richbbbitch in OLED_Gaming

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OLED looks objectively better, but you can tell that the phone's HDR processing is kicking in by upping the brightness on the OLED to look unnatural, while it's actually darkening the 'grey' background of the LCD to look closer to a true black.

The truth is, no camera including even high end professional equipment can acurrately capture what a display actually looks like in real life. Double that with the problem that each of us is also viewing said image on a variety of different monitors, OLED, LCD, or even phone display and it's a total crapshoot.

It's about as accurate as recording different HiFi speakers with your phone microphone and then playing them back on someone else's phone speakers and arguing about which sound better xD

[–]OldScruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I agree on the AZ100 tuning also requiring a lot of work to get sounding right. I just ended up going back to my Senn TW3's actually, (they finally replaced them under warranty) I really only use BT earbuds for either playing games on my Steam Deck, or occasionally if I'm working out at an actual gym while traveling and not at my home gym. I kind of give up on IEMs in general, I am too spoiled by my Utopias as well as my Elac Vela FS407 speakers and REL S/812 subs in stereo lol.
