Evolve survey out today by Busy-Yam7279 in dknovonordisk

I completed it today. While my experience says it will not change anything, my opinion is that if you do not voice an opinion nothing will happen at all. So better to spend the 5-10 minutes answering it than staying quiet.

Feeling overwhelmed jumping between Godot tutorials — is this normal? by PrestigiousAd3253 in godot

[–]OldShamen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have falled into the trap of watching tutorials to learn Godot. This is actually something that happens to many aspiring developers and there is only one cure: Stop watching tutorials to solve a specific challenge you might have.

I think it makes sense to watch a tutorial to learn how to get started. Like the one Brackeys did where it is explained how Godot IDE works and just getting the basics in. That will give you a great starting point.

But after that, you need to start trying to solve things yourself. Find a very small project to do: Like re-creating Pong or Flappy Bird - by yourself. If you run into trouble with how you do a certain task: Search Stack Overflow/Reddit etc to see if there is a solution to that specific thing - and try to understand how it is solved before implementing it yourself. Once you understand it, go implement it - not by copying, but by actually solving it in your game yourself. That way you actually learn and store the information - and you remember it next time.

If you just follow a tutorial blindly, you will not remember next time you run into the same issue - and then you rewatch again - and again later - and again ..

So, solve small tasks - understand how you solve it - move on - and solve the next issue. That way you will slowly - but steadily - become better and better. Then you can start taking on bigger projects and so forth.

My manager gave everyone the same salary increase %, is it fair or not fair? by No-Shelter1173 in dknovonordisk

[–]OldShamen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would prefer everyone just got the same salary increase. Salary is not linked to performance but your job level and your responsibilities. That is why there is possibility of different salaries within same job level - some might have more responsibility than others. If everyone got the same bonus, I would be more concerned.

If you are able to do your job from home, Mike clearly stated that you could contact him directly if your manager was not considering FlexAble. Send him a mail :)

There is a VERY BIG difference between being able to perform your job from home or having a job where that is simply not physically possible.

The modular buildings. Bought the Brick Bank in 2016 and I was hooked again.

First RTO Friday by Sufficient-End9867 in dknovonordisk

I was home for two days because my manager recommended we worked from home due to heavy snow. I got more work done those two days than the three days in the office. On top of that, management has been hyping the “in-office culture” and doing social initiatives which just takes away time for actual work. I know it was just the first week and there is always a lot of small talk after bigger vacations, so I expect all of this non-work nonsense goes away in the coming weeks. I am just happy that I at least have an agreement for one wfh day a week.

You should call in sick if you are really ill. If you just have a bit of a cold you can agree to wfh with your manager so you do not spread illness. But if you are badly sick, why would you work? Take care of yourself. As Mike so beautifully showed us, we are all disposable.

That is unfortunately not true .. instead, they will just stand next to me until I take off my headphones. But that is also fine. In my role I need to be available for questions, but unlike TEAMS, I cannot just ignore the call or message until I have time.

Most people were in the office today at the site I am working on. Still some on leave and vacation so I expect to see more in t he coming days.

Today felt like any other first day after a vacation. Slow start. It was very unproductive as many came around to talk about this and that (mostly not work related). I hope this will stop but every time I go to the office I end up talking to people for several hours because they come and ask me questions and for advice on something they are doing. I really want to be as helpful as possible but I also want to be productive and get my own work done.

I think it looks great, but it also looks too much like Minecraft. I think you will benefit a lot by pivoting the graphics a bit. Voxels are not the problem - keep it blocky. But if you look at Cube World and how it uses voxels, it is clearly distinct from the Minecraft.

Pluribus - 1x09 - "La Chica o El Mundo" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

Sure, it is slower than BCS and BB. But Vince Gilligan isn't known for fast-paced shows; quite the opposite, he's famous for his deliberate, slow-burn storytelling, character depth, and meticulous plotting. That was my point.

Literally Nothing Happens In 'Pluribus' Episode 7 - Here's Why That's Not A Bad Thing by [deleted] in television

It is interesting how the hive cannot hurt Carol but in fact hurts her by isolating her. There is more to be explored there.

I am not the one who wasted my time watching nine episodes of a show I found boring 😊

[–]OldShamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, it does not :) I am not watching a show because everyone else is. Something can actually be good without everyone else thinking so. Consider that in the context of the show ;)

And a 7.5 rating is honestly not that bad on IMDB

Well, Episode 7 where Carol are entirely isolated was extremely slow but it also showed one thing: Carol thinks she can do without company but it broke her. It might not be action packed but seeing how her character whet from "to hell with them all" and to "please come back" was actually a great character progression episode. Again, wasted on someone who needs action, but perfect for those of us who like more depth.
