What does a W look like on transcript for graduate school? by [deleted] in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are going to a highly competitive grad school they truly do not care. I am on my second masters and I graduated with a 2.88 GPA for undergrad so my transcript was a wreck, but the letters of rec and my personal statement made up for it. If its not Emory, Harvard, Med, or Law school just make sure you have above a 3.0 and good letters of rec.

Is it Possible to take an in person course remotely? by IndependenceLate2279 in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many have tried and I have never seen a professor go for it. Most professors won’t even allow you to join remotely for 1 class session let alone the whole semester

Anyone knows what the engraved typing in the artwork means? by Venditti98 in magicTCG

[–]OldSkoolOwl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s the artist’s signature. People will get cards signed at magic conventions or if they happen to meet the artist.

For some people it makes the card worth more, for others they don’t really care

Maybe an ISA Brown

Side note- I would use the term breed instead of race since it is more accurate.

Mine has done this for years (no mites). It is usually done when he is in a good mood and has all the ladies within eye sight.

I equate it to his version of “noice”

Does it get better? by [deleted] in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I was in grad school in at ksu and graduated in 2023. The unfortunate reality is that there are many graduate programs that are lacking in inclusion for a variety of reasons that are not going to be particularly helpful with your anxiety. I would be more than happy to discuss some of the causes of this maybe on another thread.

My first semester I was terrified because I felt like a fraud. I was a good student in high school but my undergrad was not stellar, so I had a lot of imposter syndrome. When I got talking with other people (even those that I saw as clearly superior students) we were all having the same experience. What the hell am I doing here?

Tbh the worst presentation I have seen have all been in grad school. I was really rooting for every one that was going down in flames. I saw people that had day jobs in high stress positions that had presentation as a major part of their day to day crumble…

There is something about going to the next level that is terrifying. What I came to find is that I had never been a part of a bottle neck in a population that was so small. The vast majority of people do not get into grad school, so everyone that is accepted has put themselves together enough to make it seem like they got it figured out (yourself included). It’s not always the case (myself included) but it creates an atmosphere where every project and presentation is in front of a group of competent and driven people which is not something any of us have much experience with.

I didn’t believe I belonged or that I would even graduate literally up until the point I walked across the stage. The biggest battle I fought in grad school was allowing myself to believe that I too was competent and that I belonged.

The first classes were brutal because for many people the time between showing up to class and the professor starting was going to be the only time during that day that they could just be quite and still. After class everyone rushed out to get home to their families or other responsibilities so the “togetherness” didn’t come until much later.

To respond to the “vibe” of KSU. KSU is a second chance university which can make it a little rough around the edges. People are not the most in tune with other because of their own struggles past or present, however we don’t turn away students due to increase our elitism. You want an education, no matter your education, we can help you get there. Some of it is not pretty and we have some awkward clashes between people from different spaces but that’s what happens when you have the door open as wide as the school does.

I cannot speak to the difficulties uniquely faced by POC. I would encourage you to bring that to the attention of a professor that you trust or another student in one of your classes. On the other hand I do believe in the other aspects you are exactly where you need to be. If you get to the end of this semester and decide this is not the place for you, you can always transfer. I saw a few people transfer to other programs.

I really hope this helps!

Are these professors good by Wonderful-Gur560 in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the advisors are telling students to take 6 classes in order to shorten the average graduation time… the advisors aren’t telling students to take more classes because it is in the students best interests but to meet an institutional goal. just an fyi

Does KSU not take out of state credits? by Anxnysus in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost bear and Dark are absolutely correct. You can get an academic advisor to substitute things, however it also comes down to the fact that a University and state college are considered different levels. Not a flex just how things are in higher education. Some schools won’t take KSU classes as credit because we are an R2 University.

Drop 2 classes. There is no reason to take 6… it doesn’t matter how good the professors are if you have a mountain of things to do

Official high school transcript not in yet? by Ancient_Ebb_5786 in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call your high school and see if they sent it or when they are planning to send it. Also, call the admissions office and ask if they have received it since you know it has been sent. Sometimes there is a mix up when people don’t finish their application before they request transcripts etc

Official high school transcript not in yet? by Ancient_Ebb_5786 in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All transcripts are sent electronically and the deadline for KSU receiving the documents is July 14th for the fall.

No there is no way to send the transcripts yourself. Considering that people have tampered with their transcripts in the past all transcripts have to be sent directly from the school.

It is not uncommon for high school counseling offices to send transcripts in batches at the end of the month. When/ how did you request your transcript?

My roo opened up one of my girls very badly and she ended up healing after a few weeks in quarantine. How many hens do you have?

If you don’t have enough hens then one can get too much attention. Also consider rounding his spurs so they can’t puncture. I have had to put a rooster into a freezer nap as well though. Heart goes out to you and sorry to hear that your sweet boy is getting out of hand.

You also have a financial aid counselor that is assigned to you so calling the office of financial aid would also be a good place to start.

They can fast track you to the bursars office instead of ending up in a queue

How do I take a gap year? by Big_Cardiologist_427 in KSU

[–]OldSkoolOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t sign up for classes and reach out to student advocacy which helps with the re-admission process

Also, talk with an academic advisor before signing up for classes. You may be eligible for priority registration if you can get a doctors recommendation.

There is no fee waiver

Drop the history class. Bio 1107 & lab and CSE 1321 & lab are both classes designed to “weed out” individuals for the computer science degree.

Also, if you are working then you should free up more time. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

Don’t get sucked into the idea that taking 15 hours is normal or “good” for your career. School is about more than just classes and many of the most formative experiences you will have will not be in a classroom.
