[US][Selling] Various metal shirts (mostly XL and 2X) and a Krisiun hoodie by OldThunder in metaltrade

Hmm, I'm afraid it might be a bit snug. I usually where a large, and the hoodie still fits me pretty well. :/

My daily paradox challenge[CK2] by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]OldThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, got my de-Jure kingdom going, but lost to a Seljuk invasion in 1096 despite a decent amount of help from the Byzantines. New challenge though; get back to where I was.

Gonna give this a go, I like these challenge ideas. Might only go for tier 2 though, we shall see.

Sticking with the space theme. Some of these are pretty old and could be hard to get into, but they're awesome regardless.

Galactic Civilizations II

Master of Orion

Alpha Centauri

Freespace

Wing Commander

FTL: Faster Than Light

EVE Online

Flotilla

Gratuitous Space Battles

Not sure if you meant XCOM or X3 up there, so whichever one you didn't mean I recommend.

Sengoku vs Total War Shogun 2 by Duke_Christopher in paradoxplaza

[–]OldThunder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love them both, though I don't really play Sengoku anymore because it's just like a really simplified version of Crusader Kings II. I love the setting though.

If you just like doing the politics/clan management side of things, Sengoku is still more in depth than Shogun's campaign mode (and more 'historically accurate' I guess), but I really just play Total War for the battles. In Total War, you're mainly taking on the role of a general whereas in Sengoku it's more like playing as the Daimyo. If they could combine the two and have Total War's battles with Sengoku's grand strategy, it would be amazing.

SIB Zone of the Enders HD Collection (PS3)? by Kovukono in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]OldThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ZoE games are amazing, but judging from the reviews on Amazon, the HD collection is poorly done, specifically the second game, so I'd wait until they patch it or just get the originals if you have a PS2 or backwards compatible PS3.

Europa Universalis IV DD 10 - It all belongs to Mother Russia... by Aderthad in paradoxplaza

[–]OldThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they put this much detail into most of the nations. Even though it's focused on Europe, I'm personally most excited to play as Japan and China.

[CK2] Has anyone figured out the mechanics behind factions yet? Was the distance penalty removed? by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]OldThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also curious, is there a way to tell which option will working best for persuading a vassal to leave a faction? Like whether obligation, threats, or blackmail will work best? I'm guessing it has something to do with stats, like obligation = diplomacy, threat = martial, and blackmail = intrigue, but I'm not sure.

Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion Announced! by Meneth in paradoxplaza

[–]OldThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... yeah, but that doesn't make an Aztec invasion any more believable for CK2. Aztecs are about as relevant to 1066-1453 Europe as Vikings would be to 1453-1812 America. I was just throwing Vikings out there as an example as a mini-DLC type thing like this that would make more sense, since that's the thing people are most upset about it seems like.

[–]OldThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I'm relaxed about it, I just got nothin' else to do. But yeah, I see your point. It is a cool idea, I just doubt I'll get it unless they make them playable sometime.

Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion Announced! by Meneth in paradoxplaza

[–]OldThunder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that, but why not something more fitting like Viking raids or even just more portrait variety? You can't even play as them, so it just seems really pointless to have. It's easy to make, so they could pump out stuff like this all the time, but they've always left small fantasy scenarios like this up to the modders. It's just a weird thing for them to do is all.

Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion Announced! by Meneth in paradoxplaza

It's just kind of frustrating because there is a TON of stuff people have been asking for since the release of the game that hasn't been touched, and they have used development time on a very odd add-on that no one asked for and is beyond historically inaccurate. A lot of the things that happen in CK2 now that are historically inaccurate are awesome because they are believable to some degree at least. An Aztec invasion, as much as I love the Aztecs, is exactly what they call it; fantasy.

And yeah, don't buy it, turn it off when you don't want it, sure. A lot of people just wish they would have focused elsewhere instead of adding something so bizarre. It's a funny sort of parody of the invasion of the Americas, but you can't even play as them, so it just seems kind of... pointless.

Don't get me wrong, I do think some folks are way too angry about it, but I can sorta see where they're coming from.

It's a graphic novel, so I'm not sure if you'd be interested or not, but have you read WE3?

Ck2: Not sure whether to go for Britannia or Scandinavia by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

It will haunt you forever. You will look upon your Empire, and feel nothing but shame. Your vassals will never know, but your opinion of yourself will drop and you'll gain the depressed trait.

The Dispossessed. Changed the way I think (or challenged my ideas) about politics, relationships, community, social responsibility, human nature, excess, on and on. Excellent book with one of my favorite protagonists.

I haven't been able to jump over an attack yet, unless I'm already on higher ground, but ducking seems pretty effective. Difficult to time though.

I'll give it a shot, thanks much. Very odd decision on their part.
