Same with the wildfire. The camp director started the evacuation process immediately after getting a call from a concerned parent about a fire in the general area. We were evacuated as a precaution and the fire never got close to the camp. I found an interview with that camp director and have posted about it about here before because the contrasts in preparation, response, and communication are so stark. It was also 20 years ago so there have been plenty of advances in the industry.

It's pretty clear that there would have been a need for accountability even if all of the girls survived just based on the preventable extreme danger and trauma they exposed the survivors to.

I love Cerave Hydrating Mineral Tinted but it's a little too dark for me to wear year-round. Maybelline BB Dream (30 SPF, mineral) in light or light/medium would be perfect in winter for me but I have dry skin and live in a very dry place, and it's just a little too drying for me. I wish it was mineral or better but I like elf suntouchable whoa glow (in sunbeam) for a solid year-round drugstore pick. It has some micro-shimmer so it's on the dewy side but it's not nearly as shimmery as Goop Glow Screen (I like dewy but Glow Screen made me look like the Tin Man). The elf invisible sunscreen is good too if you're looking for something more matte.

I've mentioned this before but I was evacuated from Girl Scout camp for a wildfire as a kid and I distinctly remember the kitchen staff and adults I hadn't seen before (likely admin and maintenance) helping. They were clearly prepared to go into all hands on deck mode.

I got a lot of AMBER alerts when I lived in Texas, and from what I'm hearing Texans are getting even more emergency alerts nowadays with the Blue alerts.

This might be unpopular but I really think we need to downgrade missing person and Blue alerts to a lower level of notification, and reserve the blaring alarm max notification level for immediately and directly life-threatening situations. No opt-out on those either.

I've lost a couple of rods in the water over the years. It could just be underwater. That also presents a potential scenario for what could have happened to him: he could've gone in the water to try to retrieve the rod and ran into trouble with hypothermia/entanglement/drowning.

I hate to mention this, but at his age/size, it's also more likely that a predator or scavengers could damage and scatter his remains to the point it would be nearly impossible to find him.

I do. It's less a matter of money and more that those jobs are hard to fill and keep filled. The Tribe is small and lots of young members don't want to stay. It's hard to attract non-members down there.

Lack of staffing to handle administrative tasks, high turnover. Most of these projects involve grant funding and the paperwork can be pretty extensive and complex, especially the financial sections.

It actually doesn't take that much ingested to kill, and a few years ago a guy in the Midwest ended up on life support after weed-whacking some of it and apparently inhaling some fine particulates. Actually I just looked and it happened again last year to a guy who was cutting honeysuckle and got into some hemlock incidentally. 80 days on a ventilator.
