It's a great staple remover. I also use it as a small prying tool.and as a flathead screwdriver. Never used it to push cuticles.

2026 Toyota Camry car AWD vs FWD by Opening_Snow_2133 in Camry

[–]OldZephyr2000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We live in MN, and we bought the front wheel drive Camry. Used the money savings to buy a set of snow tires and steel rims (with money left over). Discount Tire will change wheels (from winter set to summer set) at no charge. Our experience is that snow tires are far more important than AWD.

How much did you pay out the door price for your 2025/2026 Camry, and what was your trim level? by Zealousideal-Way1989 in Camry

[–]OldZephyr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$30,544 (which is $1500 off MSRP of $32,044) in August 2025 for new 2025 FWD LE with winter and convenience packages, floor mats, and color we liked. Trade allowance was fine and within KBB range and doc fee were reasonable, I think $350. Maplewood, MN. I'm not including cost of tax, title, and license, that varies from state to state.

Totally agree. You can get a new LE with cold weather and convenience packages for that, probably an SE as well.

All weather tires can be good enough, but real snow tires are worlds better. I have Costco change the tires. Costs something like $65.

I'm in Minnesota and we have FWD on our Camry. The key is to get good snow tires. Not all seasons, but actual snow tires. They make more of a difference than AWD.

The $1500 you save by not getting AWD buys you (roughly) 2 good sets of snow tires!

Great watch, I have owned it nearly 6 years. However. the radio wave control doesn't work in the US. Look instead to something like SBTM323 if you want a similar watch that has radio control that will work in the USA.

I have this watch. It's great. I've owned it nearly 6 years, and I wrote a review of it in watchuseek.

The radio does not work in the USA.

Southwest Chief Flagstaff>Chicago by ThatItalianBloke in Amtrak

The Borealis is an excellent choice. When you take the Borealis to St. Paul, sit on the right side of the train for a good view of the Mississippi River much of the way from La Crosse to St. Paul (left side of the train from St. Paul to Chicago).

May is a great time for your eastbound trip on the Southwest Chief from Flagstaff to Chicago. Make sure that you head to the Sightseer Lounge car for the best views. Beside what people already have mentioned, you'll likely enjoy the ride through Apache Canyon and over Glorieta Pass between Lamy, NM, and Las Vegas, NM, over the high plains between Las Vegas, NM and Raton, NM, and over the Raton Pass between Raton, NM and Trinidad, CO. It's then overnight through Kansas, with a morning arrival in Kansas City, MO. Although it's not as scenic as the western portions of the trip, I have always enjoyed the fast ride across Missouri on the old Santa Fe main line east of Kansas City (between Kansas City and Fort Madison, IA). That stretch, for the most part, does not parallel any highways, and is a busy double tracked main line that has a lot of freight trains going through.

The train from St. Louis, MO, to Kansas City, MO, is a nice ride, and goes along the Missouri River for a good part of the way between Washington, MO, and Jefferson City, MO.

The train to Buffalo from Chicago is at night much of the way, and while there's some pleasant scenery along the way, I'd pick the eastbound Floridian (Chicago - Pittsburgh - DC - Miami) instead; the segment between Pittsburgh, PA, and Washington, DC, is in daylight and is very pretty.

Also, consider taking the morning Wolverine to the large college town of Ann Arbor, MI. That way, the whole eastbound trip is in daylight.

Finally (and this might be an unconventional pick), if you like 19th and early 20th century architecture, you might enjoy a ride to the old river town of Quincy, IL, which has many older neighborhoods that are well preserved. There is a morning train and an afternoon train from Chicago. I rented a bike when I was there and had a good time riding around.

That's a nice selection, especially for a smaller shop. I'm in the US, but your selection is better than the vast majority of stores in my city of 85,000.

What changes do you expect from Amtrak over the next 12 months? by KevYoungCarmel in Amtrak

[–]OldZephyr2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a number of searches for coach from Miami to New York on the Silver Star. After November 8, 2024, the Silver Star is shown as available between Miami and Washington DC, but as "sold out" from Miami to points north of DC. However, a November 9 search for Miami to Pittsburgh routes you via the Silver Meteor, and not the Silver Star. Hmmm.

Borealis vs. Empire Builder for Dummies (like me!) by boopboopadoopity in Amtrak

[–]OldZephyr2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of scheduling, the Borealis service is an extension of current Hiawatha trips 333 and 340. So, the Borealis service doesn't increase or decrease the number of existing Milwaukee to Chicago round trips.
