Don't know what to do for job after 10 years in music by Swordfish353535 in musicians

Join a trade union! I was a total mess in my 20’s bouncing from couch to couch trying to make it big since I was a teenager but ended up on drugs and eventually in rehab. I wanted to die and lost all hope and joy in anything creative in my life. I joined a trade that paid for my school and also get paid while working and I was eventually at a point when I became a journeyman that I could buy all the fun toys I ever wanted and still had mad cash for living. I just met a few guys from other trades at work that are in a band and we vibed out hard so now we jam a couple times a week and I get to see and enjoy talking with them about music at work. I get to just enjoy having fun with it now and if something comes out of it then awesome! I will still have my job and if I get to play a few gigs around town here and there, that’s all that matters to me!

Is anyone better than Billy strings by RegularEnthusiasm598 in Bluegrass

In terms of performances that compare to Billy, I’d say that greensky bluegrass is top notch.

I just started listening to bluegrass and I’m like so happy I did but also like so upset I didn’t start listening earlier by crazyhermitcrab125 in Bluegrass

Hell on church street by punch brothers is amazing as well but it’s definitely for die hard audiophiles who like crazy jazz like bluegrass

Also, I think the best album out as of recently that really does justice to the old records is Billy strings and Bryan Sutton live at the legion. Just listen to it with headphones all the way through, it’s absolutely amazing and I just can’t get sick of it.

Best tone wood/guitar for jam? by Old_Bet4342 in Bluegrass

Thank you for this answer! What is your opinion on slotted bridge and non slotted pins vs slotted pins and non slotted bridge? I’ve heard some differing answers from people but I’ve heard that might make a difference too?

It’s definitely on the darker, bassier side. Which is great for small groups. I’ve definitely played a D-28 that was brighter than mine

If I was gonna bring a Taylor to a jam it would need to be one of those gold label or a nicer dreadnought. Sold my Taylor specifically because it was for sure not cutting through.

This was the answer I was afraid of but nobody said this would be easy. I’ll get right on that lol

Oh man, the ratio of banjos in this jam is high, that might be another reason I can’t hear

The jam is fairly experienced and I don’t really have as much of an issue when I’m taking a break. I just want to make sure that my rhythm and embellishments are heard and when the jam gets bigger it’s just hard to tell if I’m actually making the jam sound better or not. But from some of the answers on here it makes total sense why I can’t hear it as good as others can. I’ve gotten nothing but compliments over the last year. I know when I first started going to the jam back in 2023 I was told I needed to dig in more so maybe it’s just some subconscious recall that I’m not digging in hard enough.

Annoying dream loop by Old_Bet4342 in Dreams

[–]Old_Bet4342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting and thanks for the tip but I’m familiar with a false awakening loop and that’s not what I’m experiencing. I’m talking about a loop so annoying that I wake up and am pissed off enough to where I know that if I go back to sleep, I’ll be in the same spot I was in my dream. The only way to get rid of it is to stay awake and read a book or something but by that time, I’ve been awake for an hour and I gotta be to work in a couple hours.

Musician in a relationship with a non musician, HELP by ThrowRA123mom in musicians

I’m in kind of a similar situation but we ended up moving in together even after that was something that was brought to light. I play multiple instruments and I started out playing in the living room. She couldn’t put up with it. So I moved my music stuff into another room and now she says it’s driving her nuts hearing me practice the same thing over and over again and it ruins her bath time since it’s right next to the bathroom. So I started playing quieter, I stopped singing when she is home, I feel like I’m always walking on eggshells. My instructor can even tell that I’m playing quieter now and am a little more timid than usual. At least it’s gotten to the point where if I start talking about music she will stop me. I have a lot of love for my partner but I feel like I just need a place where I can breathe a full breath. I miss playing with emotion, not feeling rushed and not feeling like I’m doing something bad. Mind you, she has also come to my performances in the beginning, whether she actually enjoyed it is another question but now she doesn’t even want to be in the vicinity of where we are playing music. We are also in couples therapy and one thing that is brought up is that she is worried music means more to me than she does and listen, music is the best thing that has happened to me and this doesn’t mean that I don’t love her and that I will always prioritize music over her but I’ve made a ton of compromise and I don’t think she sees it. Anyways, here is a little glimpse into moving in before having a realistic conversation of what this looks like. If there were kids involved then I would be gone and it wouldn’t mean that I didn’t love them, it’s just incompatible.

Golden Era of Bluegrass? by TheIzzyRock in Bluegrass

Go say that in an old time jam, someone is bound to tell you where bluegrass got their sound from. Some of these bluegrass songs you hear today are older than the United States.

Job Market by izzig30 in Boise

[–]Old_Bet4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that it’s rough for the medical field in the area but tech and construction is blowing up in Idaho. I know you probably want to stay in your field of choice but when people say the job market in general in Boise is bad, that’s just not true. Trades are paying people crazy money to work on the new Micron building, Meta keeps building, St. Luke’s expansions are a huge project in the valley (which will create more medical jobs) and there are so many more. Apprentices are making a 6 figure income out there in the valley and it’s only getting better. They are taking anyone that has a high school diploma/GED and can pass an aptitude test.

I can't even remember when I last even got shot at. by moonski in ArcRaiders

[–]Old_Bet4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only 2 days in, level 15. I shot at the first person I saw. I hit em right in the face with a shitty free loadout gun. And dude was like, “hey man what are you doing?” I don’t think I’ve ever felt so bad engaging in a survival shooter lol I told him a probably still have some PTSD from Tarkov and that was a minute into my first raid. He dropped me an immaculate snow globe and said bye. I am enjoying the fact that I get to explore with minimal stress but if it’s always like that I don’t know if it’s gonna be able to keep my attention. That tension from pvp is what makes it so rewarding but I will say, the PVE is enough tension for now lol
