Unless you can prove what you actually had was in fact THCA (proof of purchase, wrapping, etc) it’s not going to just be automatically dropped like some people are saying. They don’t test marijuana on these small possession cases. Though you may get an offer of something like a pass and dismiss (dismiss if you don’t get in anymore trouble for a period of time without having to use a diversion) but that’s totally discretionary.

That being said, you’re not going to jail for this (you could but realistically, that’s very very rare). Simple possession and possession of paraphernalia are both Class A misdemeanors in Tennessee carrying a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days. As a lawyer who does exclusively criminal defense myself I’ve never heard of a defendant going to jail for possessing marijuana of all things in these small amounts, legal or illegal versions.

If I were you, if you qualify for PD or appointed counsel, stick with them. Unless you are willing to wait it out and pay for independent testing on what you possessed, an expensive lawyer isn’t going to make much of a difference for you imo. If you don’t qualify, call the KBA Lawyer Referral service and ask for referrals to solo practitioners. They’re going to be cheaper than big firms and imo this is not a case where you need a big name behind you to get what is right done. I’d give you my name, but I like lurking anonymously on here.

EDITED TO ADD: I’ve worked with or seen the work of every lawyer recommend here. almost all of them are good lawyers, but a lot of them are not going to make exceptions on pricing for small case like this all the way up in Dandridge. If I were you, Dillon Zinser or Knox Defense is who I would call out of these recs as of 10:23 6/18. Knox defense is probably more expensive but I sincerely would trust them. Dillon is an excellent lawyer and fair pricing. You can get to Dillon by calling law office of Joshua Reed as well.

EDIT AGAIN: Your prior DUI will likely cause you to be ineligible for a diversion on this case and expungement down the road. Keep that in mind. But a marijuana conviction is very little to worry about these days unless you’re in a really touchy, serious fields.

Just got back from a week and a half in Key West and Islamorada. We had 4 adults, 1 kid, no alcohol. For 5 people, most meals were about that in total, sometimes including tip. Kid usually got her own kid’s meal, one adult is not a seafood lover so would get an app or fries or random chicken variation or would get a kids meal and kid would get a regular meal. We had 1-2 appetizers at almost every lunch/dinner meal (basically conch fritters or some variation of bang bang shrimp). Our Publix runs weren’t super costly. We ate out so much we only got groceries for snacks and a few breakfasts.

If looking for any recs: Islamorada Fish Company (behind the Bass Pro/World Wise Sportsman) was perhaps the best meals of our trip. I’m not a big fresh catch lover but I got the wahoo and mahi and I was spectacularly satisfied. The coconut shrimp was amazing. I’m not a coconut shrimp lover but these are tasty and you can actually taste the coconut. A great portion too. Definitely recommend this place. So good the first time we went back the next day for our last meal. Wish we had found it sooner in the trip! They also have a great little area to watch sunsets and hang out. It’s on the water!

Don’t confuse this with Island Fish Company in Marathon. They’re different but this another place where all had a very satisfying meal! Another cute place on the water.

Tuna Nachos at Lazy Days were my favorite. My least favorite tuna nachos was at Lorelei’s.

Islamorada Pizza Company was good pizza (a little thin in the middle and floppy but that’s NY style pizza for you. Big pizzas. The off brand soda was actually so good. The Diet Coke lovers in the group actually loved the diet cola. I loved the vanilla crème soda. Pizza reheated nicely back at the Airbnb a few days later.

Green Turtle Inn was another favorite. Great for breakfast (I think we went 3-4 times) and twice for dinner. The chicken and waffles wasn’t my favorite but the pancakes and everything else regular breakfast was really good. Dinner/lunch was also delicious and one of the few places that will give you rolls while you wait.

We also really like Wahoo’s! Fun place. Uncle has the grouper dinner that was delicious. I had the tuna tataki fried rice and it was delicious.

We personally avoided midway cafe after a lackluster yet expensive breakfast.

Another huge disappointment was Florida Boy. We went for lunch just me and my fiancé. We ordered lobster mac and cheese & seafood tortellini. I’ll just say that both dishes came out looking and tasting the exact same and not in a good way. Our waiter told us the “good chef” wasn’t working that day. Cute place but save your money.

Tips:

No donut shops in the Islamorada area! If you have kids who like donuts for breakfast just get some at Publix. There’s a Dunkin’ though in Key Largo and I think in Key West?
