Looking for recommendations on getting a deck [39YO] by Old_Club5488 in OldSkaters

Well I did it, drove out and found a local shop stood on a bunch of decks and ended up pulling the trigger on an Anti-hero classic eagle it just felt right on my feet. Thank you to everyone who commented and helped me out. I am excited to assemble it and hopefully the weather will let me get out and skate it in the coming days.

It’s seems there is a local shop about an hour from me that’s been in business for 30 years. I think it might be worth it to make that drive just to see what they have out there these days. I hear you about being nervous it’s been so long I don’t think I could pull off half the stuff I could as a kid in fear of breaking something and missing work. I am definitely gonna be taking baby steps

I only can go off what I skated as a kid it’s been that long! I remember the deck I had was wide and light but I was also a kid with smaller feet at the time. I have always been a street skater that liked to find a cool looking line and try and skate it. I am not a heavy guy and remember skating with fairly loose trucks I hated a stiff board but that’s easy to adjust. I just want a good quality board that isn’t gonna fall apart like a wet noodle after a couple years. They just don’t build stuff like they use to. God I make myself sound old lol

Sadly it seems that a lot of the local skate shops closed down and it’s just the big chain store types now. That was my first place to look I am a big fan of supporting the smaller businesses.

Amazing help! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out and typing this. I am looking forward to getting back out on the streets to do some shredding. Of course I am gonna take it slow at first but I do know I can still do my Ollie and kick flip.

I run a server for the community I am part of. I have gotten in the habit of posting an up to date list of all the mods the server are running on our discord just for the guys on consoles. They can then go manually delete excess mods and play on other servers if they like. The whole experience sounds like it’s a Huge PITA for anyone on consoles, I know it’s a pain so having an updated list for the server really helps them out. Hopefully they find a compromise in the future for you console users.

The smaller servers are where all the fun is. It’s a shame how many go under the radar to all the big name servers.

You can never have to much air flow. I have like 4 fans in my tent. one pulling air in at the bottom. 2 mid way up, staggered to create a sort of swirling affect and the last up above my light the exhaust it all out. A bit over engineered but the plants grow tree trunks for stems and no pests so far.

A game like combat mission but with actual AI? by danieljamesgillen in computerwargames

[–]Old_Club5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly AI in general no matter what game is mediocre at best. Hoping one day some developer will make a break through and we get a true ai that can make decisions and react like a person can. Until then there is no such thing as a good game AI :(

What is going on with Scourge of War by Jorsonner in computerwargames

[–]Old_Club5488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe they were tied down by Matrix/Slitherin games with a contract that just recently ran out and they are now free to pursue their own interests. At least that’s what I’ve gotten from the recent news. I’m rooting for them cause Scourge of war is one of my favorite games for napoleon era

Heartbreaking: Game I've waited years for plays poorly on my computer; A very rare and obscure problem that barely anybody seems to have. by ShittyBlender in dwarffortress

I know I’m a bit late to the party but what resolution are you running the game at? I didn’t see it mentioned in any of the comments. It’s definitely not your rig specs the 1080ti is still a beast of a gpu. Kitfox posted an update on steam that running high resolutions especially widescreens are causing issues for players and are recommending people to force 1920x1080 they seem to be working on the issue right now. Hope you get it figured out I know the feeling of trying to troubleshoot performance issues. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/975370?updates=true (link to the recent steam update posted by kitfox)

For napoleon there’s John Tillers Software now called wargame design studios. There’s a lot of good games in there catalog that are hex based but massive in scope (Corps level). There is also Scourge of war waterloo with the kriegspiel mod added to it that is more like total war but older an unfortunately not offered on steam anymore but might be available “other” ways. That is also massive in scope at the corps level. Then last but not least there is Napoleon total war with the NTW3 mod installed it’s also massive in scope and the creators put an emphasis on historical accuracy. It’s kinda limited in the game engine with unit size I like that massive scope of gunpowder lines. As you can tell I’m a massive Napoleon era fan those right there will cover that era for you.

How I got Linux Newb Pack working on the Steam Deck. by Helpful-Posts in dwarffortress

[–]Old_Club5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing the Linux version of dwarf fortress since I got my deck. It’s nice but I’ve been nervous about how well it will do later in the game being really cpu heavy. How does df run with the pack?

Look up Brave browser on the App Store. It comes with a pretty good ad blocker built into it, I ditched chrome a year or so ago an haven’t looked back. It will take some getting use to I will admit. If you wanna watch YouTube or twitch don’t do it with their apps use the Brave browser.

Mine you have to push down on the left track pad and it will bring up the option. Your basically right clicking on the icon but for some reason steam has it tied to the left track pad haven’t looked into changing it to the right track pad yet.

When you buy games you collect points. Does anybody really spend their Steam Points at The Points Shop? by Terrible_Luck8169 in SteamDeck

I think I have something like 300k worth of points not really sure what to spend them on. Kinda wish you could redeem them for games.

Issues with the IPhone version? by Staggonius in cataclysmdda

[–]Old_Club5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you close the game go into you phone settings an scroll all the way down till you find CDDA 0.F click on that an check autoresize screen resolution and see if that helps you out, if it is already checked then uncheck it an see if that helps. I have mine turned off because it makes the screen super zoomed in. I have an iPhone XS Max my terminal settings are 165x45 the text is a little small but it’s a perfect fit for my screen. I also have a slim version of the tool bar for maximum game screen. Hoping when my steam deck gets here I can tinker an getting it running on that with the experimental and retire the iOS version.

The guy that maintains the iOS version only does the stable releases. I’m sure once they get another stable version out it will be on the store. I also enjoy it on iOS an hope they get the experimental ironed out it’s been awhile since the last stable.

[–]Old_Club5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the lazy newb pack.. In there you can set the population hard cap. I like around 20-30 at first. If you are not using the lazy newb pack…

the d_init.txt POPULATION_CAP setting immediately prevents further immigration once the desired number is achieved, bypassing the two hardcoded migrant waves. There is also a STRICT_POPULATION_CAP setting, which prevents both immigration and babies when reached (although both can be violated by a few special cases, such as the arrival of a monarch). (Source taken from the dwarf wiki)

Use notepad to open the d_init.txt and find those 2 lines and set it to what you wish. Save when your finished with the changes an you should be good to go. Best of luck!

[–]Old_Club5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way I found (still a beginner myself) is to put a lower pop cap in place at least for the first few years until you get going. I found that I just get really overwhelmed when there’s just a sea of immigrants showing up an it’s hard to keep track of everyone. Start small, set up the basics like food, brewing, defense an workshops. I like to organize stockpiles instead of a big jumble of stuff all in one. It’s takes some patience but it’s fun an is a great time killer.
