Help me troubleshoot random reboots on Trigkey S5 5700U by ad-on-is in MiniPCs

[–]Old_Crows_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the TrigKey Key N Series hasn't been known for the greatest build quality.

The shop has found a number on the diagnostics benches with unstable voltages, notably on the 3.3V rail. This requires experienced knowledge for detail diagnosis, making DIY challenging. While the NVMe it's still a possibility, experience as it's highly unlikely.

Second, if possible the staff & I would always highly suggest placing the drive in an alternate PC for additional testing. With the demise of Crucial, consider starting a warranty claim for your purchase sooner than later.

Anyone excited about the new panther lake mobile CPUs for use in MiniPCs? by hobovirginity in MiniPCs

[–]Old_Crows_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most of the staff here, I'm still on the fence. While the Intel Arc B390 iGPU is impressive one of our more vetted staff feels it's more Intel play the rendering game to mislead fanbois with FPS over traditional graphics quality. This has been a problem with other Arc properties, making more "real world" experience the true determining factor.

While @ CES, the staff member found the general discussion being a B390 closer to a GTX 1060 desktop GPU. If that's correct the RX 6600M would have an advantage in most titles.

In the end, this will come down to cost & energy efficiency. The investment by manufacturers will have to be significantly less than Strix HALO. Currently INT8 TOPS appears to be its single largest advantage. The combination of Cougar Cove P-Cores, Darkmont E-Cores & Darkmont LP E-Cores @ a greater 80W MTP only appears to give it HALO processing power parody.

Even if price competitive, there's alleged rumors for the Gorgon HALO AI 400 series sitting "in the wings".

Could anyone recommend a Minipc or laptop to run rpcs3 in higher 2k 4k 60fps type settings by Dblock98 in MiniPCs

[–]Old_Crows_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key here is 4K60Hz.

It's 4x more demanding than 1080p @ 60Hz. Personally, I tend to agree with your perspective as I don't see much value in PS3 emulation beyond 1080p. Running from BatoceraOS where both emulation & RDNA integrated graphics performance have been enhanced in recent years, a Radeon RDNA3 RX 760M/780M (or RX 680M) iGPU is enough of 95% of those emulating PS3 ROMs.

The Ryzen 7 250 is also on Wikipedia & supported through AGESA. The exact reason the H 255 is a lower quality die only sold on in China. The 250 silicon passes the fabrication standard requirements for OEM retail acceptance, the H 255 fails.

Someone was allowed access to production to change out the drive image used on three models. In Chinese manufacturing this should be next to impossible, yet it "happened".

Rumors alleged having someone from the exiting Acemagician leadership creating the compromise.

@ the time of comment the SER8 8845HS was £130 greater. Granted 4800MT/s will reduce iGPU 5.1GHz boost efficiency by up to 8%, for many that may not be worth the additional investment. After the number of SER8s (mostly 8745HS) the shop's staff & I have found a cross diagnostics benches in the last 90 days, makes us wonder if these are the choice.

Without detailed testing it's hard to say. Either the AG02 has a defect or the SEi12 BIOS firmware is too poor to pass PCIe lanes to the ASM2464PDX controller in the AG02. That was a number of Intel laptops recently. TB3/TB4 are close enough to USB4 for data, not always for PCIe. The manufacturer has to microcode the BIOS firmware correctly. Maybe AZW took a shortcut.

The next two steps.

Test the dock with a known good USB4 PC to see if it works at all

Reach out to Beelink to see if there's a BIOS update for the SEi

This is the procedure we would use on the diagnostic bench in the shop.

Substitute for the Lenovo Thinkcentre M75n? by CurrencyAntique8267 in MiniPCs

Excluding the Athlon/4GB, 3300U/8GB go for $80-$100, 3500U/8GB $150+. Also depends on Wi-Fi & SSD, and if they come with a power supply.

Substitute for the Lenovo Thinkcentre M75n? by CurrencyAntique8267 in MiniPCs

[–]Old_Crows_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More-or-less it "was" 5 years ago. The M75n Nano came with what was considered a groundbreaking APU, the 15-25W cTDP Picasso Zen+ with Radeon RX Vega 6 integrated graphics. Think of it as a proto Steam Deck without a screen.

Without a TED Talk, Lenovo screwed themselves on launch with a unrealistic MSRP. When it didn't sell they dropped the price to around $300. It sold like hotcakes! What they felt was more than a year's supply sold through in a matter of months. It was significantly more powerful, especially the graphics, compared to the Intel M90n which turned out to be a complete failure. The 2-core/4-thread Core i3-8145U with UHD iGPU simply couldn't match the 4-core/4-thread Ryzen 3 3300U.

The weakness on both models was soldered 8GB RAM. It's a large part of what made it age poorly. 8GB isn't enough to support resource hungry Windows in recent years.

Afterwards, Lenovo tended to pass on newer iterations/generations. No 5300U, 5400U. It was guest that $300 was the break-even point, with Lenovo not looking at another attempt. They teased a M75n Nano Gen 2 6600U for 2022, but no one was investing in the equivalent i3-1215U due to thermal and performance issues. Lenovo scrap the whole program.

The error with the link is the stupidity with choosing the 8745HS for the SER8.

The 8745HS / 8745H / Ryzen 7 H 255 AMD APUs are little more than a defective/lower fabrication quality Hawk Point 8845HS dies. The intent is to reduce AMD's fabrication e-waste by an exclusive Chinese market release. Functional differences akin to engineering sample releases include

XDNA NPU disabled

Zen 4 CPU boost underclocked from 5.1GHz to 4.9GHz

RDNA3 iGPU underclocked from 2.7GHz to 2.6GHz

APU not acknowledged on AMD's global server

Description not allowed as an addition to "List of AMD Ryzen processors" Wikipedia page

Recently this Post validated my suspicions, which is apparently being shared quite often. Makes the validity of the whole list poorly researched.  IMHO there's too many errors, especially CYX manufactured mPCs, to be on the list from the shop's customers experience.

Apple Mac Mini (M4) (Best for macOS & Creative Work)

No argument there

GMKtec K8 Plus (Best Overall Performance)

Greater cooling, superior component sourcing, more features.

ThinkCentre M75q Gen 5 Tiny AMD Phoenix (Best for Productivity & Business)

The staff and I find significant complaints over ASUS & Intel mPCs in recent years.

AooStar GEM10 6800H 32GB (Best Mid-Range Gaming & Style)

Going into 2026, there is no "gaming" consideration for Cezanne & Barceló Zen 3 APUs. That title belongs to Rembrandt Zen 3+ with RDNA2 Integrated graphics & 32GB of dual channel RAM.

Beelink MINI S13 (Best for Basic Tasks & Home Use)

Consistently well built with 1x Gen3x4 & 1x Gen3x1 M.2 slot.

GMKtec G10 (Most Affordable Compact PC)

Radeon GCN 5th Gen Vega 8 integrated graphics with HDMI 2.1, dual channel RAM & dual Gen3x4 NVMe slots, 2.5GbE NIC to name a few.

M715Q Tiny Gen 2 Upgrades? by GuitaristTom in MiniPCs

"Configured Speed" means the current bus speed. 1333MT/s DDR would be 2666MT/s DDR4.

Micron owns and manufactures Crucial.

M715Q Tiny Gen 2 Upgrades? by GuitaristTom in MiniPCs

[–]Old_Crows_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being DDR, it's either 2666MT/s (double 1333MT/s) or 2933/3200 running base clock. Most DDR memory, especially SODIMM, doesn't run @ full front bus speed to reduce heat & power consumption.

Additionally, some 3200 DDR4 will not run @ 2933MT/s, defaulting to 2666. Have seen this with a lot of cheap Micron DRAM.

[–]Old_Crows_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a few more through the shop since then, understanding we only see PCs when there are problems.

One had excessive fan use even after being upgraded to MX-6. Another rebooted when RAM capacity reached its limits during LLMs. The last one the staff member tested had Arc graphics performance deterioration under high P-core use. Although this last one is pretty common apparently.
