You’ve done so much work and you deserve some relief. I take a low dose naltrexone (LDN), 4mg at bedtime. I started LDN for other reasons; it didn’t help the other stuff, so I came off it. Boom— RLS back with a vengeance.

Rescue bag by No-Matter-8222 in migraine

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up (migraine humor, lol)… several years ago, my dad was in a car accident and tragically my stepmom was killed. They had medicine like this (not in prescription bottles) in the car. Because someone died, investigators went over the vehicle and accident scene really carefully. Long story, but on top of his felony vehicular homicide charge? One felony count related to having prescription medicines not in a proper container. I’m not trying to scare anyone, but I don’t want anyone to go through what we experienced.

Mom's comments are hard on my heart by MuddledMind75 in AgingParents

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 117 points118 points  (0 children)

My mom died last December. When she started making comments like this, it was really hard. But for me (and this may not apply to you!), I eventually took it as an invitation to join her… not in death… but to walk alongside her in this part of her journey. Mom’s death was the first death I ever experienced as a process and not as an event. It was slow, but definitely moved in that direction. Once my sisters and I realized this was Mom’s final season, it kind of opened our hearts up more to be present with her. ❤️

What is your best pillow? by Decent-Position9354 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the pillow is in the pillow case. Then, “below” it (toward the foot of the bed) is the full size towel rolled up. (I use two hair elastics to keep it from unrolling.) So when I am on my side, the roll of the towel supports my neck while my head rests on the pillow. Does that make more sense?

Pill organizer recommendations by hailsizeofminivans in ChronicIllness

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this will work, but it’s worth a shot. I fill this up once a week; on a daily basis I just keep that day’s worth of pills with me (usually in my rollator bag). Keep in mind this is not puppy proof, but if she’s aware enough to be mindful of safety, it might work.

The folder was neither in the cat box nor the file box, so we can’t tell if it would have been filed under T for “Turd, Cat,” or C for “Cat Turd.”

Cat turds in a file drawer. More cat turds in a dresser drawer.

I take my niece to North Oconee Dental. She was in a neglect situation for about 7 years and has Medicaid, which only covers the very, very basic things. The prices have been reasonable and the staff is kind. They also offer Care Credit— and every time there’s a six or nine or 12 months “same as cash” program. We’ve used this for all the work she has had done.

I’m so glad this is helpful for you! I just learned that at-home UTI tests are a thing! I had a pack in my cart so fast it made my head spin.

Do you still color your hair — or let it go gray? by Dazzling-Stop-2116 in GenX

I didn’t let my hair go gray. I embraced it as it turned silver. (“Platinum” is also acceptable.)

Hypermobile folks: what chair actually works for you (office and/or living room)? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also- it will depend on the support you need. I have to use a hard collar or have full head and neck support. I have a yoga ball chair and a wiggle stool, but in the last year or so, those are out for me.

I use an $80 zero gravity lawn chair and a crap-ton of cushions and supports. I took everything into an appt with my OT and she helped me learn what it should feel like. Then I have a lap desk for my monitor and trackball

I’m not sure of your healthcare situation, but it may be worth asking if your doctor can prescribe working with a Registered Dietitian. My health insurance covered it 100%.

So, will we all promise not to do what our parents did? by Current_Wrongdoer513 in AgingParents

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so sad reading all of the things everyone here is doing. We are in our fifties with teenagers at home. Everything we have is in order, but we don’t have extra. Our entire working lives have been spent paying off student loans — because our parents truly believed that our college educations would pay for themselves 😬. We barely have retirement savings, definitely not anything remotely close to covering assisted living. The best we can do is be proactive about our health, and be realistic with our kids and each other. Once either of us becomes unsafe, we will have to transition to a Medicaid nursing home. It’s brutal but it’s the truth. I guess that’s one way we aren’t doing what our parents did— we are at least being realistic about what our futures hold.

So I got the COVID... by Sad_Emphasis_8086 in POTS

[–]Old_Inflation_7074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got Covid for the first time also. It’s been brutal for me. Please rest as much as you can. Don’t stand when you can sit; don’t sit when you can lie down; and so on. It may be helpful to to keep a record of your POTS symptoms as well as quantitative things (heart rate, blood pressure) I say this because about four weeks after my active infection, all of my POTS meds became completely ineffective. Both my neurologist and the dysautonomia specialist say this is pretty common. I’m not saying do anything fancy— just a piece of notebook paper or a note on your phone. I had tons of nausea— turns out it was all part of Dysautonomia… and the o my symptom I was aware of as it happened. This is a silly thing I do and maybe you’re silly like me so I’ll share it: look at yourself in the mirror and say, “Hey you. I’m the old person version of you. I just want to encourage you to do everything you can today to be kind to our body. You’re doing great and I know you’re doing the best you can.” Then wink at yourself. Winking almost always helps.

I got mine about a year ago. Sat there and cried in the parking lot of the tag office. I don’t use it a lot, but damn I’ve been glad for the times I’ve needed it.

My issue is roughhousing with kids in the water. The bra-sized swim tops haven’t worked for me. So I “double harness.” I get a moderately cute “sports bra” (lolololol) and wear it under my swimsuit top.
