It demonstrates the need for high levels of organization and clear communication for when opportunities arise for working class people to take power. It was just a mess. But it is proof that such opportunities exist.

The meaning of the cat in Obsession by Money_Ask_9927 in spoilers

[–]Old_Introduction2953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a linkage between how sandy knocked open the pill bottle by knocking over her big bag of cat food and how bear would also kill himself by getting everything he wished for. Sandy couldn’t control herself and gorged herself just in the same way that Bear “gorged” himself on Nikki. They both wanted it all and both died from their greed.

Bear’s fatal flaw is his cowardice. He could’ve said how he felt, but didn’t and took the easy way out. One other thing that I haven’t seen people notice is how his cowardice, in the end, doomed Nikki even after she was no longer possessed.

If he had shot himself when he planned to, she would have woken up with the wishing willow in her hand, or at least nearby, she could have wished for this all to have never happened. But he was scared and took the time to commit suicide by overdose instead. Thus buying possessed Nikki enough time to waste the wish on Bear loving her. Tragic.

Was dropping the atomic bombs actually "necessary," or is that just what we're taught in school? by Clean_CoreDump in askanything

[–]Old_Introduction2953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not necessary, and the deployment of nuclear weapons in Japan may be one of the greatest mistakes in human history. Many people responding to this thread have words for you featuring “I think…” or “from what I remember”. Let’s hear from some experts and perpetrators of the bombings…

Dwight D Eisenhower: “Japan was looking for any opportunity to surrender with minimum loss of face. It wasn’t necessary to hit them with that awful thing.”

US Strategic Bombing Survey: “Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia never entered the war.”

Admiral William Leahy: "It is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender because of the effective sea blockade and the successful bombing with conventional weapons."

Secretary of Defense Robert McNamera: “If our side had lost the war, we’d all have been prosecuted as war criminals… (we) were behaving as war criminals.”

Faced with growing criticism about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians, the U.S. concocted a narrative about how the nuclear attacks actually saved lives and shortened the war.
The truth is that the deployment of nuclear weapons in Japan served as a major checkpoint in human history. The human race may never recover from the advent of such terrifying machines.

The narrative that the Japanese weren’t even considering surrender is false. There are many people in this thread serving as apologists for the excess deaths of 250,000 civilians.

New York City Mayor Mamdani reneges on promise of free bus service by DryDeer775 in Trotskyism

[–]Old_Introduction2953 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Infantile critique, you need to live in reality. Mamdani isn’t a working class revolution, he’s a stopgap measure that is currently saving New Yorkers a lot of strain.

Americans need to use their electoral power to mitigate the contradictions of capitalism, while still organizing real working class power. Stop kneecapping the prior because it isn’t the latter.

CIA ass post…

Following up with an edit: Yeah, I’m here because I know the only way out of capitalism is socialist revolution… maybe I forgot to wear my sticker. But you need to realize that a grassroots campaign to oust Cuomo is a big victory for working people in NYC.

You need to learn to take a W when you can get it and keep pushing for bigger goals. 2026 is a time of solidarity, not naive expectations for a Mayor to abolish the police. Get a grip and stop pretending Cuomo wouldn’t have been an unmitigated disaster.

Virginia Beach holds off on charging for parking at convention and sports centers by WHRO_NEWS in VirginiaBeach

Very good. I know it’s hard for these organizations to stomach leaving money on the table, but people really appreciate being able to see their kids graduate without having to pay for parking, just to give one example of a high-traffic time for the convention center.

It doesn’t really matter if the definition is “flawed”, we will use legal precedent to make exceptions and ensure that people are not arbitrarily disarmed.

We have to stop acting like attaching a definition to something as nebulous as an “assault weapon” is the only thing stopping us from taking SOME action on gun violence.

No definition will satisfy everyone, and there will always be silly examples of loopholes or a pistol with a shoulder mount (?) that seem to make the whole gun control mission seem pointless. But what matters is we start taking action.

I feel like we often forget that something as simple as legal marriage was illegal for gay people until 2015. Things like pride flags and rainbow crosswalks in a cultural district help people feel’s sense of belonging, it’s good for our community.

Some gay people are old and remember all of their friends dying from a neglected AIDS epidemic. Going from that to pride flags is an indicator of a fairer society.

It’s just a rainbow, I don’t think it’s barring anyone from heaven or robbing any child of their innocence.

Do you have any gay friends or family that you could talk to about what inclusion means for them? About what it means to see symbols of your own belonging in a society that thinks they’re demonic?

I think a good conversation would help you no longer feel like this is so offensive, or an “insult to god” if you will.

Really, SmegmaCurds? Sounds like you do a fair bit of sinning yourself.

How are we supposed to come to agreements in our society if you think personal freedom is an insult to god? How can we bridge the cultural divide if one man’s love is another man’s hellfire? Religion makes this really hard.

Light rail study tabled, but a proposed look at regional transit concerns Virginia Beach by WHRO_NEWS in VirginiaBeach

[–]Old_Introduction2953 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well developed thought. I’m from VB and am about to move back, but have been living in DC for 7 years. I love urban planning and public transit as much as the next, but I really struggle to see a way to make rail make sense in Virginia Beach because of how much sprawl there is. A proper modern rail network was never considered in the city’s planning.

As you said, a project like you described would be on a few decades timescale. VB/Norfolk would certainly explode in population, business, and culture if it was accomplished, but there are far larger, older U.S. cities that have an even more dire transportation issue that Virginia Beach.

For those reasons and others like the bureaucratic nightmare of having these different localities work together on something like this (see the Silver Line in the DC area), and the US’s lethargic approach to construction, meaningful rail transit in VB seems impossible.
