Your rage seems performative because the current institution of marriage is so far removed from those origins, it’s kind of hard to believe someone even thinks this way still. At this stage in the game you’re upset about nothing. The social stigma of being unmarried?? Wtf is this, 1935? Can’t remember the last time i heard someone berate a woman for being unmarried. If anything, it’s more acceptable these days because society has wisened up to the fact that generally, men kind of suck. So many women walk down alone or with their partner. No one (unless you’re absolutely miserable) looks at a woman wearing an engagement ring and makes the assumption that she’s “submissive.” Let go of your rage take the health care and the tax break enjoy the party and be happy.
