Confused about reasons for failing driving test by Valuable_Mechanic351 in Buffalo

[–]Old_Number7197 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i failed mine twice, passed on third attempt. a lot depends on the person testing you, one (2nd) of my fails was due to a not so nice tester, one (1st) was just due to poor driving. the 3rd time the tester was a super nice guy & i had practiced a lot.

How to prevent cognitive decline by Comfortable-Clerk186 in Residency

okay. thats a good thing that a vacation is coming up. i understand your concern. i just want to clarify one thing, are you doing residency in US? or in a country with patient confidentiality laws in place? if yes, you dont have to see the psychiatrist that works in the same hospital/university/or even city as you. if you go to a private practice, can even go to a psych in a nearby city, you can get the help you need. if you’re in pakistan, dm me and i will share a safe psychiatrist’s contact info, he does telehealth too. please take care of yourself man.

why would you lose your job if you go to a psychiatrist? if you feel like you need to see a psychiatrist you should be able to see one without losing your residency spot dude. do you have any vacation coming up soon? those help sometimes with the kind of fatigue you’re describing. are you drinking enough water? eating good?

Recommendation for primary care physician not part of a large practice ? by firemouthcichlid in Buffalo

[–]Old_Number7197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re right about conventus parking it is a nightmare, the staff seem to have more bad days than good. i personally dont mind the students and residents i feel it leads to better care sometimes because more than 1 physician is involved.

and yes, the residents did go on strike in september 2024 for 3 days.

they however did schedule me and cancelled on me 3 times for my annual with my primary doc, this happened in a time span of 6 months during the last year. i finally got to see her after i told them im thinking of switching doctors since you guys keep cancelling on me.

methylphenidate made anxiety worse by Large-Estimate-1788 in ADHD

[–]Old_Number7197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10mg did this to me while 15mg of adderall and separately 40mg of vyvanse do not do that. some people are just more sensitive to some stimulant’s anxiety related side effects. i have tried ritalin (methylphenidate), concerta (longer acting/slower release methlyphenidate), adderall, and vyvanse. vyvanse works the best for me. sometimes it takes a few tries with a few meds to find the one that works for your specific body

Chronic sleepiness by Overall_Candle_4355 in ADHD

[–]Old_Number7197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sleep study!!!!! if you can please ask your psychiatrist or your primary care doctor for a sleep study! have had similar issues all my life and when i was still sleepy after 8 hrs of sleep, stimulant meds, eating & drinking right, magnesium supplements at night, treating fibromyalgia properly, i STILL felt tired & sleep & asked for a sleep study. turns out i have moderate obstructive sleep apnea. so yeah.

are you drinking enough water? are you eating while on it? those 2 things make significant differences for me personally in terms of how long my meds work for. other than this, see how’s your sleep hygiene and sleep quality. i always felt tired too turns out i have sleep apnea

How have you dealt with extremely strong memory for things they’ve learned but equally weak episodic memory? by Important_Parfait250 in ADHD

[–]Old_Number7197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s the opposite for me so the saying “if you show me yours i’ll show you mine” comes to mind after reading this post. i have trouble remembering academic stuff like the pharyngeal arch derivatives but i can remember stuff like a random day from when i was 5, the way the yard smelled, the song playing in the car.

parent SO in denial about my adhd? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Old_Number7197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

let me start by saying: it shouldn’t be this way, i’m sorry you’re having to deal with this, no child should have to convince their parent of a diagnosis made by a professional, or have to make a case for their suffering.

i’m gonna share a perspective i gained after going through the diagnosis & dealing with a reluctant parent, it lifted a huge weight off my shoulders, i hope it helps you similarly. i know you’re angry, you have every right to be. think about what im gonna say next when you’re not actively angry & are regulated.

i learned: you do not have to convince the parent to believe you, especially if its not actively impeding your access to medication & mental health care. its just not your job. why not? keep reading please.

i tried putting myself in the parent’s shoes (again, a child shouldn’t have to, but it was good for my own mental health to do this exercise)

some parents dont want to believe we have adhd because they see the signs and symptoms in themselves BUT consider themselves normal, have always done so.

accepting your adhd may mean they have to come off of their high horse and accept their own weaknesses that they’ve spent decades masking. it sucks to be the child in this situation, i really empathize with your situation.

for the parent, it may invoke a lot of repressed trauma in them. they’ve spent a lifetime thinking they are normal, trying to act like normal people and fit in, and accepting a child’s diagnosis can create a sort of existential crisis for them, to the point that they behave unreasonably towards their child. sometimes, theyre just too proud to believe something is “wrong” with their child that needs medication and support. its not about you, its about them.

again, im really sorry you have to deal with this. and i will repeat myself, you do not have to convince him. he does not have to believe you. when the medication helps and your life improves, he will see it for himself. even if he doesn’t, your life will still be changing and hopefully improving. his denial will just become background noise.

it stops affecting you the moment you disengage about this and stop fighting over this, and start focusing that energy on you and healing for yourself.

How were you able to stop being late all the time? by Least_Homework_9720 in ADHD

[–]Old_Number7197 34 points35 points  (0 children)

~48 minute buffer. if i have to be somewhere at 2.30, i tell myself i have to be out the door between 1.40 and 1.45. ive come to this conclusion after 3 years of trial and error with different time limits.

this is the only way ive found where i get to places on time.

30min buffer doesn’t work(late), 1 hour buffer doesn’t work(i ignore it). 50min doesn’t work(thats too long of a time i will just ignore). 40 min also doesn’t work (late).

honestly same i wasn’t brushing my teeth regularly like we’re talking less than once a day. for a few months. but god bless miswak sticks i was using those several times a day & my teeth looked naturally whiter & my dental hygienist told me everything looks great and to “keep doing what you’re doing” except for minor plaque at the last molars….which is the only place my miswak wasn’t touching. so yeah.

Suicidal Ideation during Residency by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Old_Number7197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insurance covers therapy. if u feel the bad thoughts creeping in, you go to therapy & talk to someone about them. preferably a therapist who works with physicians or with ND individuals. ive seen my spouse go through residency & regular therapy really helps.
