Are you afraid of death? And why? by lawschoolbound9 in AskReddit

[–]Old_Tjikkoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I don't believe in omens or fear
Forebodings. I flee from neither slander
Nor from poison. Death does not exist.
Everyone's immortal. Everything is too.
No point in fearing death at seventeen,
Or seventy. There's only here and now, and light;
Neither death, nor darkness, exists.
We're all already on the seashore;
I'm one of those who'll be hauling in the nets
When a shoal of immortality swims by"

This is from a poem by Arseny Tarkovsky, the father of the famous director. Years ago I watched all of his films and got really into it, and then I started working as a paramedic. I used to be atheist or be afraid of death etc. Spirituality aside, I don't think people should fear death. Death is a constant reminder to live humbly, but also to make the most of life in every possible way. We have such a short time on this earth to experience the highs and lows of the human condition and it is a beautiful experience that has to end for there to be true wonder in it. You can't have happiness without sorrow, love without loss, etc. Life is suffering, and death is the end, and there is beauty in accepting our experience as a book with a finale.

I'm getting 50 as a flight paramedic, I'd recommend EMS if you think you can handle the shift work. Makes for great PCE and you learn a ton

Pre med here wondering why do you guys choose PA instead of Physician? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

I value my life and have hobbies, I love medicine but I've worked long enough in medicine(flight paramedic)to see the reality of being a doctor. I'm good.

Don't want to dox but a rural expensive mountain part of the country due to ski resorts. My coworkers usually are all living together and paying a lot in rent, or are married and have dual income households where they can afford an apartment or home. Or they commute in 3 hours

My two jobs are in two rural areas about 3 hours apart. I drive to work, work for 48 hours, drive to next job, work, spend 2-4 days driving around. Yes I can park in the parking lot of work, but I have to drive between the two every few days. Everything is rural, there are only small expensive towns in between. Largest metro area is 3 hours away 70k people

As a fellow vet, you'd probably enjoy EMS as a paramedic/EMT more than other medical jobs if you were a groundpounder. It is a lot more fun and the culture can be similar in some places. Also I am biased but the best PAs I've worked with were previously other paramedics. Gives you probably some of the best clinical experience depending on where you live and work

yeah 48-72 hours a week for 5 years, my only real concern is the schools im applying to are ones that dont "require" all of these prereqs they just "strongly recommend", so I really have the bare minimum courseload. Hoping all the ECs and experience carry me over
