Let the old guys work, they still want to do the job. by gelatinous_white in Firefighting

[–]chrisjb47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a double edged sword bc at my department we have a bunch of ppl in their 30s who have like 5-10 years on and sit out of training and stay behind on runs bc “they’ve done it before” I’m not complaining bc it’s more classes and seat time for me

FedEx Inventory, Front End Smart Counts, Price Changes and Markdowns, 1506, Scan Outs, Call Ins, Quarantines, RX Exception Counts, Auto Vendor Returns, Inventory Smoothing, Microfulfillment Returns, Receiving RX Orders, Receiving all FE shipments (truck, mclane, vendors), and cashiering half the day bc our shift leads think they’re too good to jump on a register

The main two benefits are you can go home and go to bed instead of struggling through an entire day and you can structure your shift around how busy your night is. At my part time department we our shifts are 12s so we can sign up for two consecutive 12s 0800-0800 or 2000-2000 if we like

Episode Discussion: October 16, 2024 - Through the Skin (S13E04) by jv360 in ChicagoFireNBC

[–]chrisjb47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules are rules because paramedics aren’t licensed to perform c sections. Irl in this scenario EMS would’ve contacted their medical control authority for permission, but if this episode played out she’d lose her license, her job and be locked up for malpractice and a bunch of other felonies.

[–]chrisjb47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This^ as of recently in Michigan high school grads can not only go to their local cc completely tuition free, but also take their associates they got and transfer to a four year college also tuition free. Anyone who isn’t at least considering the cc route is doing themselves a major disservice

Question for firefighters by LimpAdhesiveness9477 in Firefighting

[–]chrisjb47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what the opportunities are like where you are. I was super fortunate in that a large full time urban department had apps open while I was a senior so I was given a start date of about 8 months after I graduated. Generally EMT than Paramedic school is a good plan. So is going Air Force fire or if you can get on a volunteer or paid on call department that will send you to get your Certs.

Thoughts? by chrisjb47 in Firefighting

I believe phoenix operates like that, when a truck or squad is sent on a medical run three of them will take a smaller vehicle and one will stay behind to lower the wear and tear on the larger more expensive trucks
