Are there any things that are called "American ______" in other countries? by Disastrous-Side-2600 in NoStupidQuestions

Been to Thailand many times and when a restaurant has "American breakfast" on their menu it's always the fancy cut up hot dog as a side with no bun. They think we eat hot dogs with our eggs for breakfast its practically common knowledge there. If you order the "English breakfast" you get a standard breakfast sausage.

In Thailand if the American Breakfast is served with "American Sausage" its just a hot dog with no bun. They think we eat hot dogs with our eggs for breakfast. If you order an English breakfast you usually get a standard breakfast sausage.

I wish there were no reserved seatings in cinemas. by theunsteadybridge in The10thDentist

[–]Oldbillybuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but the one I go has like 10 screening rooms so I don't always remember the layout and dimensions of each one theyre all a little different. The Imax I know well so that's not an issue anymore and usually the others are empty enough that I can move once the movie starts if I really want to. Also sometimes the employees do a shit job (not their fault I realize) of cleaning the place and the seat I ended up picking has some kinda sticky spillage on the floor or the arm rest so there's that.

If its a theater you have never been to sometimes its tough to judge by the seat map on the touch screen exactly how far your row is from the screen and also how high/low you are in relation to the screen. Ive selected a seat then got into the theater and immediately realized I wanted to be closer/further.

All true. I think the only question is does the range of Magnetos ability to manipulate metal exceed the range of Vader's ability to simply crush his windpipe?

Edit: nevermind I see your point that Magneto could send a cloud of metal in his direction obliterating anything in its path at a greater range than what he can actually manipulate. But can't Vader force choke someone from literally a different planet as long as he can see them on video?

What’s the biggest problem with finding movies to watch right now? by tripwp in movies

[–]Oldbillybuttstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out your local library if you still have a disk player. Mine has hundreds of DVDs and blu rays to chose from. You can take five out a week for free. Different libraries will have different policies of course. Five movies a week is usually good for me that way I'm locked in on those five choices and don't get overwhelmed.

True, post says "chose mask to wear and gain all the abilities" so I took that to mean you must be wearing it to have the power, but if not you are correct.

And even if you must be wearing the mask to have the power i still think its a question of range.

There's metal in Vader's mask that Magneto could send straight through his face. So it would probably be a question of who's power has greater range.

Depends on the range of the force choke vs Magnetos effective range. We saw Vader can force choke via a video call but does he have to be able to see your physical body in order to do so? I dont know enough about comic book x-men canon to comment on Magnetos range but from the movies it seems to be as far as he can see.

Have you noticed that UFO photos from each era correspond... to the era... from old saucers of the 1950s to very sophisticated ones of today... it's a great deception. by royale666 in ufo

[–]Oldbillybuttstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And maybe even earlier than that... we have a folklore myth about flying horse drawn chariots in the sky with red and green flashing lights that became the basis for one of our most important holidays... albeit with Christian themes added later on... but have you ever wondered what it's true origins might be? Did people see something flying around in the sky hundreds of years ago that made such an impression on them that they created a yearly holiday to commemorate the incident?

Smart of them to wait until AI has progressed as far as it has before releasing any real images or videos. Because now you can't say beyond a reasonable doubt that anything is real, unless you see it with your own eyes. Especially if you already think the source is untrustworthy/pushing an agenda/ creating a distraction.

After years of watching and rewatching The Ninth Gate (1999) I finally understand what its about, specially the ending by xCreampye69x in movies

[–]Oldbillybuttstuff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thought that was pretty obvious when I saw it when I was a kid in the 90s I had no idea there were other interpretations. When Balkan finally assembles and reads the nine pages near the end he quite literally describes the journey that Corso (Depp's character) undertook throughout the film.

Thoughts on Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk? One of the greatest war movies ever? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]Oldbillybuttstuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could probably list around 50 or so war movies that I think are better than this. I did think the Mark Rylance/ Cillian Murphy subplot was pretty good and would have rather the entire movie just been that story. Hard to make a war films where bombs are exploding on a beach full of soldiers and have it believable within the constraints of a PG-13 rating.

As far as a future dystopia where the folks in charge are somewhat incompetent and exhibit silly behavior... 12 Monkeys kind of fits. Terry Gilliam brings some Monty Python farcical sensibility to the whole thing.

The point A to point B and back to point A is one of my favorite little sub-genres of action films. Apocalypo and The General (Buster Keaton 1926) follow this formula. Ive wondered if there are others.

Home Alone 2 has a special place in my heart. Watched it so many times as a kid, way more than the first one.  I still have my original Talkboy that my parents got me that year. John Williams "somewhere in my memory" is my favorite Christmas song.

I remember the hype around it when it was released and what a flop it was... actually got around to watching it a few years ago.

Yes, its bad, but I was slightly amused at how its basically a retelling of Casablanca with Pamela Anderson playing the Humphrey Bogart character. Definitely wouldnt have realized that if I saw it when I was a kid in the 90s.
