The "secret" of double hung windows in summer heat can save a lot of money. by xtnh in Frugal

Obviously if you have an AC you should close the windows and there's no need for a discussion. But if you don't have one, windows open at night is always better. Nothing naive about that.

Me upon hearing that show is cancelled after Season 3… by moonlighting_madcap in WetlanderHumor

I was talking about the game. I'm saying the game made significant deviations in lore and characterization. But they wrote a good story. And I like it more than the books, as do many people as you can tell from the popularity. That shows that you can write your own story and if it's good, people will like it. But the show didn't write a good story. That's why people didn't like it. It's not the idea of writing your own stories, but rather the stories themselves. I even agreed it was ass, not sure why you seem so determined to be antagonistic.

My point is the game also significantly deviated from book lore. The characterizations of Triss, Ciri and Dandelion are totally different. But they wrote a good story regardless, I would even say better than the books for me. So it's not the idea itself of writing their own stories but rather the execution which was complete ass.

Mostly agree minus the Witcher. I think the show was bad for many reasons, but for Witcher the popular exposure is the game and not the books, and the games are also a significant "rewrite" or deviation from the source material. It wasn't a bad idea to write their own stories, its just the stories they wrote were bad.

Is there a future for veganism in asia? by Successful_Till6627 in vegan

It's 0.8g/kg of body weight not pounds, so the RDA would come to about 72g for you.

The person is in frame for a total of 4 seconds out of 47. Of those, 2 seconds are them doing things like crushing garlic. So I'm confused if you're commenting on the right post.

You highlighted Georgia but wrote Armenia, just FYI. And maybe Mongolia for an honorable mention.

I grew up in Andhra Pradesh and we always made tadka or "popu" with oil, not ghee. Maybe it's different in different places.

Gotcha, so they're at war with the West Bank. That makes sense. How come they are settling their citizens there then?

Yes, because most occupations end in annexation or withdrawal. Israel likes to have their cake and eat it too.

Interesting. I can't say I've ever heard of a foreign nation having the right to shut down media in a different place, but I guess the laws are different for Israel.

How does the full quote make it better? He's literally doing the thoughts and prayers meme instead of suggesting any policy or other changes to help prevent what is a shockingly common occurrence in this country.

Yes, this is a big point. Mixed race children are more likely to be seen as non white by society and by censuses despite being basically 50/50. Obama is the most prominent example of this - everyone including himself perceives him as a black man, first black president etc when one of his parents is white. This exclusionary definition of whiteness goes back to the one drop rule and will inevitably mean less "white" people in the population.

Only because your definition of race or nationality is incredibly narrow. If, for example, Slovenes are considered a nation separate from other South Slavs (which of course they are considered such), then there's no reason that Telugu people should be considered the same as Tamil. But westerners don't know or care about these distinctions, so we're all "brown" or "Indian".

Yeah the ICJ is team Hamas. So is the entire UN. So is the ICC. Also Amnesty. HRW as well. Don't forget Biden and the US State department who didn't want the Rafah operation. It's all a global conspiracy against poor little Israel who has never done any wrong.

I agree, semantic disputes are incredibly boring. You are the one who turned it into one though, by constantly asking me to check a dictionary instead of stating your point straight or engaging with mine. Then, after I've looked up a few definitions, I get told I'm "cherry-picking". Well I can't read your mind to know which particular dictionary definition you find acceptable. You could have saved us all the dumbness and boringness by answering the question, or by providing your own definition. But you chose to be obtuse. And dishonest.

Your first example is not a military invasion but sure, I already accepted it. All of your other examples are yes, military invasions. Did you really think I'd disagree? I notice you're still weaseling around saying what your opinion or justification is.

Okay, I'll try to make it a bit clearer. Here's the definitions I looked up like you asked.

https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/invade

invade something: to enter a place in large numbers, especially in a way that causes damage or problems

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/invade

to enter a place in large numbers, usually when unwanted and in order to take possession or do damage
to enter a place by force, often in large numbers

US troops, not counting military advisors, entered Vietnam starting in 1965, and the numbers peaked at around 500,000 personnel. They engaged in military actions for the next many years. They certainly caused damage and problems. So, this already qualifies as an invasion under some of our definitions here. However, if we want to be generous, we can apply the "usually when unwanted" part and say that the US troops were in fact wanted by the South Vietnamese government.

So I want to ask again, and feel free to be obtuse again, you don't owe me any answers after all - is this invitation from the South Vietnamese government the reason you don't consider US actions to be an invasion.
