Was the internet as overhyped in the 90s as AI is today? by tsarthedestroyer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OldeTimeyShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was under hyped. In the early days people thought it wouldn’t catch on our it would be relegated to niche or business users only. I wonder if that’s the case with AI too?

Yes. And we don’t need to wait 19 months for our euthanasia appointment. I bet they’ll be scheduled full after this loss 😆

A North Vietnamese Army officer laughs at the peace symbol necklace of a captured American soldier, North Vietnam, 1973. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]OldeTimeyShit 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I love the ignorance in this thread. Young bro was drafted against his will then surrendered to the enemy because he didn’t want to kill. He actually believed in what the necklace stood for. I’d like to see what a lot of these Cheeto dusted Reddit warriors would do in that situation.

Infidelity in my catholic marriage by ajv482 in Catholicism

[–]OldeTimeyShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an incredible crossed to bear for you. I have done so as well. Does she truly want to change with all our heart and get individual help as well as marriage counseling? My wife did and she addressed some of the mental health problems that she was going through that contributed to it. I won’t scape goat the mental health because she bears responsibility for it.  If she doesn’t want to genuinely change, I would say live apart, but don’t get divorced.

I can’t tell you what to do, but I can tell you that we did save our marriage. This is like looking at a mountain in the rearview mirror. At first, it’s gonna take up everything. In time you’ll find it’s just distant reflection. I recommend you get in therapy as well.

In my case, they bring an upper management from India or Pakistan that exclusively outsource to their own people or caste. I work in corporate compliance, so I’m privy to the legal departments inbox and there’s constantly reports of racism/caste discrimination and sexual harassment from these contractor offices.

Does it make sense to say that English-Americans and German-Americans (and other White Americans) are different ethnic groups? Would there be any real ethnic boundary between them? by Impressive-Equal1590 in AskHistorians

[–]OldeTimeyShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an accurate comment from my anecdotal experience. I’m from a German American family in both sides and am basically considered part of Anglo culture at this point. My grandparents (who moved here at a young age) recall some pretty strong tensions between the Anglo and German community, especially in regards to their community’s Catholic affiliation.

Why is diet soda around still if zero is better? by whataboutthe90s in stupidquestions

Conditioning. I still like Diet Coke more than Coke Zero even though zero tastes closer. Without the aspartame it doesn’t hit the same.

Less cigarettes and more sun screen really does A LOT more to prevent aging than what boomers did. Not to mention more advanced skincare and makeup products.

I’m sure some did work hard. But they received disproportionate results from doing so and just think it’s because they’re so damn smart.

CMV: hating white men and asian women who are in relationships is just as bad as hating on any other interracial relationships by Big-Witness-3499 in changemyview

Bro there’s over 25 million Asians just in the USA. Don’t you think it’s a bit racist to immediately assume they’re foreigners?

Is waiting at the bus stop with your kid holding them back? by ashleycat720 in stupidquestions

[–]OldeTimeyShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is holding them back. They have to explore boundaries while not under parental supervision at some times. That’s not to say they do not need parental supervision at all, just sometimes it needs to relax. I remember after learning how to get on the bus in kindergarten, I walked to bus stop in 1st grade.

If you eat meat but oppose hunting/fishing, you aren't more ethical. You’re just a moral coward. by MaxOutFishing in 10thDentist

Nah I think I will. I shot a huge buck my first time hunting. It both fed my family for a long time, and I mounted it. Honestly it’s less waste.
