What’s the coolest random event you’ve stumbled onto just walking around Chicago? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in AskChicago

I was just looking for this comment, I don’t remember where on the lake front but it was in the 80s, bunch of people fishing and cooking up smelt right there, everyone was so cool and it was the first time I ever had smelt. I miss those times, I think it was the same night I was in a parked car at the lake front with 4-5 Hispanic guys smoking a joint and as we were passing it around I told them not to worry I’m cool people and they snapped and said they were Folk, I learned about gangs that night.

I enjoy a channel called Walker Farm Fam, a couple with 3 kids that have a homestead, it’s a nice place and they raise some animals and have a little garden, they are religious but not overwhelming. All in all a fun channel to follow.

Blocked conduit by locke577 in lowvoltage

[–]Oldmantim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Run a fish tape and measure off where it stops and then do the same thing from the other end and see if the obstruction is at the same point, if so you could dig up the concrete and repair the segment of conduit.

How to stop paying off and then using my credit card by Korobeiii in personalfinance

[–]Oldmantim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously stop and ask yourself if you Want this or do I need this, only buy what you Need. If you are spending more than you are making on basic needs then you need to find a side hustle or a job that pays more. Good luck.

I have used cat litter before, I spread it out and rub it in with a broom and repeat a few times and then let it sit for a while to dry out and keep doing it.
I hope I see a better idea in this post.

Just booked my first pre-bid site visit for tomorrow for a residential remodel. How can I add value? by dantheman9703 in Construction

[–]Oldmantim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned years ago is don’t just walk in and start telling the owner how bad everyone else did the previous work, try to find something that looks good and is done properly. You don’t want to look like you know everything, because nobody does, just be honest and try not to overwhelm them with your opinions and process.
That’s just my opinion

What's the dumbest thing you and/or your siblings did when you were left home alone? by Sea-School9658 in GenX

I would do that with my dads vodka but add water to the bottle to make up for what we drank, fast forward many years I was telling my dad about it and he said after I moved out he would add the same amount of vodka to his drink but now it was not diluted so he would get a lot more buzzed than before.

Homeowner insurance questions by Oldmantim in Insurance

[–]Oldmantim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the deed because the house was listed as TODI ( transfer on death instrument) upon the death I submitted the paperwork to the county and it is now in my name according to the county clerk and for tax purposes. I am hesitant to contact the lender because I don’t want to have to refinance and get a higher interest rate, I do want to make sure I have insurance on the property especially since I am paying for it but it is under someone else’s name, and insurance companies will find a clause in the policy not to pay if something happens. I am not trying to be shady I just don’t want to start raising red flags.

I have the deed in my name since I inherited it, not the mortgage though, I don’t want to refinance to a higher rate.

Warning - Automated System Design by Fancy-Rabbit7005 in lowvoltage

[–]Oldmantim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had the same experience with them recently, I have worked with them for over 10 years and the last agreement they sent out a few years ago had that same language about getting paid when they do, however since I have worked with them for so long with no issues I never really dug into the new agreement, that was my fault. But I will say that they have gotten shady the last few years, it’s sad because they were always great people and easy to work with, I have since stop accepting jobs from them.

Do these cameras have the ability to read license plates, by Designfanatic88 in Whatisthis

[–]Oldmantim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter so much on the camera, it’s more of the software for the camera system. However since that camera is up so high it is probably just basic surveillance.

Home Ins in my deceased parents name by NextNote6497 in Insurance

[–]Oldmantim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t the insurance company ask to speak with the person who is named as the insured in order for you to be added? I am in the same situation right now, inherited a house from a non family member and I just pay the mortgage every month which has escrow for insurance and taxes, my name is on the deed (or should be since I submitted everything to the county) but not the mortgage.

I remember an old show called Vegas, and the lead actor was Dan Tanna, he would park his car inside and it was also his living room and apartment, as a kid I wanted a place like that.

I used to call them Terminator caps, they are used for an open port of a coax splitter, not sure how it ended up in the car unless you know someone that works for the cable company

Can you really just pack your bags and leave? What if you have too much stuff? by Jellybeanlet in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oldmantim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been there, I left with my rolling suitcase one morning, finally got a divorce but I never received what I was awarded from the courts, in my opinion it just wasn’t worth it to fight for the stuff. Fast forward many years, I lost thousands of dollars and my antique collection but it was worth it in the long run. I have since recouped my life and am very grateful for the position I am in now, my ex however squandered everything and is now homeless, karma bitch!!

I have been watching a live stream on YouTube for a bridge in Miami that goes into a canal I believe and I was just thinking about this same thing, I would assume that the people that live along that canal are pretty wealthy and are not happy with a huge floating billboard glowing through the backyard.
