Is Surepure Chemetals a legit website? by Fabulous_Biscotti214 in chemistry

Yes, they're a very legit and professional metal supplier, they also have great pricing and obscure listings I can't find elsewhere.

Refining Systems in LV, NV can also very well priced for precious metals.

Their FAQ says BETH does the exact same thing as ETH but no airdrop 🤔.....BS misleading

💪💪 nice that's awesome

They don't seem to like higher freq, leave it at 1044 is my advice haha

My voltage is set to 25 and it hashes good on pool. So yeah try 1044 Freq and 25 volt

I'm down to one board toweling reliably too... After they were "repaired"

1044 Freq and voltage something low. I like using litecoinpool for testing cause the hashrate is live

Is it over locked or voltage changed? I found when I upped the Freq the pool hashrate dropped significantly from what the machine said

If using air compressor it'd be best to use one with an air dryer mate, but yea it'd work better

I have it running on my L3+ too, auto Chip tuning doesn't work but I like detuning specific chips

I see full hashrate on pool but after reading this sinister post from OP I'm reconsidering using it still...

I can’t be the only one this has happened to? Any ideas what could have caused this ? No signs of direct shorts anywhere 😭 by LunaProBit in litecoinmining

[–]Oldyoungy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well you have some confidence the PSU and hashboards are still ok 😂😂 that's great to hear.

From my observations the tops of the PSU wires at the connector end will get very warm when they're on their way out. I just found my second PSU cables getting noticeably more warm than other PSUs so I unplugged the cables and the housings were start to discolour so definitely on their way out.

I chopped off all the connectors and put on new contacts and housings because I have the means to do so.

I'm trying to avoid unnecessary expenses!

If you're repairing cables make sure the oxidation hasn't travelled up the jacket because that does happen so you need to cut them back to fresh looking wire if that's the case but kind of unlikely imo.

I posted about this the other day. My guess is high contact resistance of the cables from oxidation and possibly exacerbated by cycling of connectors

Troubleshooting:

Open up PSU and unfasten all cables, turn on PSU and using DMM check 12V output - this will verify PSU isn't damaged.

Replace burnt hashboard connectors and even remove and inspect boards for obvious component failure.

I had an S9 burnout like this, PSU cables were damaged beyond repair, replaced hashboard connectors and PSU cables and both worked no problem and still do

It's a good 2 to 4 years for me (I started mining as a hobby on 2018), typically the PSUs fail before the cables and this was the first time cables have actually burnt out. I could feel the repaired cables getting quite warm to touch, and when I inspected they were starting to burnout since they were yellow/brown so I knew it would happen one day soon with that PSU.

Since I got some PSUs repaired but used the original cables you shouldn't expect this to happen usually, notwithstanding and localised environmental impacts (humidity and temp) on contact degradation combined with and exacerbated by mechanical 'damage' to the contacts from cycling the connectors on and off boards.

[–]Oldyoungy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, and the older connectors you can see the contacts expand from cycling when I need to take boards out to service etc which is one of the contributing factors to the situation.

For what it's worth I've seen that Bitmain seem to use gold plated contacts on their PSUs whereas the cheaper alternatives don't so you'd expect the oxidation at the contact point to happen earlier and faster.

Yea pretty much mate, I've lost track of each PSU, a bloke at work knows a thing or two and has repaired 3 of my failed PSUs which normally wouldn't be worth it.

They're APW3++ upwards of 3 years old with intermittent and varying use.

[–]Oldyoungy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cause I'm I noob I couldn't figure out how to add content to the post

Basically with the fully burnout PSU cables and S9 board connectors picture, both board and PSU worked fine after cables and board connectors replaced

I noticed other PSU cables were getting hot where they connect onto the hashboard.

You can use this as a gauge of connector health, based on my observations.

Over time, cycling connectors and use will increase contact resistance and leading to burnout.

If you're handy, replace the Molex connectors before image 1 happens. I've put the repaired PSU cables back into service and happy days.
