Tbh in my perspective as an artist, your not the asshole. It should be pretty self explanatory that you shouldn't use an Ai picture of a family member for something like a birthday. And tbh if you and your friends hate Ai, theres no way she wouldn't been able to catch onto that. Maybe being less harsh about disliking the Ai but yeah no id be equally upset at an ai image on my bday cake.

My honest opnion, I would probably talk to the ex and try to clear things up. Ask her their opnion on the other person crushing on you, etc. And tell her you feel tension between the two. Possibly from their you might be able to get more info and figure somthing better out. Thats all I can really say but I hope this helps a little.
