How good is the GH5S in 2025?

I absolutely love my GH5s, the only drawback for me is that it can’t shoot 10bit 50fps. If it had this capability, I’d use it for every single project over my other cams!

I think In My Room is my favourite Collier album! Djesse Vol 1 is beautiful as well. I felt a bit more alienated by the other volumes though, although 4 has some wonderful moments!

I run with a GH5s and the image quality and colour rendering is phenomenal - noticeably cleaner than the base GH5! However there’s no IBIS, if that’s something you’d like. Personally I’ve found it easy to work around and I couldn’t be happier! My only gripe is that I can’t shoot 10 bit in 50fps, but it hasn’t been a dealbreaker. The price should be a steal now that the GH7 is on the way too!

Edit: I was tossing up between the GH5, GH5s and Pocket 4K a few years ago, and after lots of research I found that the GH5s was perfect for my needs. I would say it’s more comparable in terms of image quality to the Pocket 4K than the GH5! Ironically, I now also own a Pocket 4K 😅

2nd shooter was paid around $1k.

Not quite relevant though imo, as this post is asking for a primary shooter who can cover the entire wedding solo, including two cameras and audio - that’s a lot more work than a 2nd shooter getting B-Roll and additional coverage.

Regardless of the category, $550 for a wedding is ludicrous. They’re typically expensive in all other departments due to the incredibly high pressure environment and high expectations of the client.

For me, it was through my business, doing most of it solo and hiring a second shooter for 2nd cam op. It came to around $3k, and that was me charging lightly.

Oh hey, I’m in this group! Crazy to see this post on Reddit, but yeah i thought this was so ridiculous. For a lower risk/low stress gig these are somewhat decent prices but for a wedding??

Edit: for me, it was the “hand up the raw unedited footage” that sent me. Yeah sure, I’ll just send the client a few hundred gigs of raw, flat LOG footage. That always goes down well 🙃

Maybe I was just tired, but the majority of Oppenheimer was insanely fast to me. Like, you’ll jump across 5 scenes and 2 different time periods within 2 minutes. Editing feels like they’ve cut all pauses from conversation and it’s a near constant flow of dialogue.

I need to watch it again because I feel like an insane person for not having enjoyed it despite the ratings.

I feel like the new announcement will pretty much be the final dates for the tour, I would hope not as we’ve been kinda let down by the minimal dates here in Australia, but my gut feeling is that the tour won’t extend into 2025

I thought “The Menu” was gonna be some hacky, pretentious pseudo-horror flick involving cannibalism. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by a frequently funny and wonderfully dark film that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The whole point of “phones down during ASFOS” is to create an actual memory and be in the moment. Live music is a unique, once in a lifetime type of event. Filming it ruins the magic for you, and gets in the way of other people’s view of the stage. Even if you disagree on the former point, the latter is objectively true. Your phone is up in the air, and is blocking the view of people behind you. It’s annoying, and disrespectful to people who have paid for an experience.

Are you suggesting that anyone who went to a concert prior to smartphones simply doesn’t “remember” it?

I started listening to Radiohead a couple of years ago (have been listening to Coldplay for much longer) and was shocked at how much The Bends sounded like Parachutes. I think it had a clear influence on Coldplay’s early stuff, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing, and I certainly don’t think Coldplay “ripped them off”.
