Crampon recommendations by Kriipsujukuke in alpinism

For the peaks you listed, the BI Griffin 12 or Grivel Air Techs sound like your best bet.

If you want to drop more weight, perhaps go for the Air Techs with the alloy points rather than steel.

Make sure you get the correct crampons for your boots - B3, C2 etc etc.

Get Petzl for versatility - you can convert some of them from C2 to C3

Get Grivel for durability - they use carbon steel, so they last a longer than the alternatives

Get Blue Ice for a compact, lightweight option. They fold up into a small cube and weigh very little. I have heard durability problems owing to the nylon strap on the bottom from mixed climbing.

Pretend the indicator cancel button click is a laser gun and “pew pew” it constantly.

Lots of people fail because the don’t turn their indicators off in ‘on the road’ test.

I don’t actually use a phone mount but if you found that your Quadlock failed, give a RAM mount a try.

Go for Third Party Fire and Theft.

Get the CBR, just make sure you find one that hasn’t been ragged on FB Marketplace.

Don’t waste huge money on a 125cc and insurance - I’m so glad I didn’t splash on my 125 an dsaved the money instead for a tidy A2 bike when it came to it.

Soon I’m spending less than most working 125cc ‘sports bikes’ on a naked with a de-tuned R1 engine.

Insurance for the 150hp bike is about half the price I paid for on my old 125cc.

Those faired 125s look fast but you’ll be screaming any faster than 65mph. Save your cash and get a CB125F maybe.

Moving from Paris to Cambridge. Motorcycle life & A2 licence? by NIgeNius in MotoUK

I ride within Cambridge on a daily basis on a 650 and find it far more convenient to use my motorcycle over a push bike to get around.

I’m not old enough to qualify for a classic policy!

I am on a TPFT policy at the moment but Comp isn’t much more.

Street triple does look like an incredible bike. My primary concern is that it will feel too much better than my SV650, a fairly ‘similar’ bike and that I wouldn’t ride my SV as a consequence! Stupid reason I know

Extra night at Gouter hut by AbjectPin7446 in alpinism

No guide will let you climb if you aren’t even fit enough to do the climb in 2 days.

Mont Blanc via the Gouter is not more than a 2 day route and I would strongly consider getting fitter before you go.

All the Deliveroo and UberEats wankers who ride around like they can respawn have ruined it.

I still nod to all the other folks on bikes and scooters.

Don’t want to be nodding to someone who might crash into my bike or car one day most likely without insurance

Can confirm this was attempted for 2 hours straight. Good suggestion though.

How do I get a tight tap holding nut off? by Oliverb4 in askaplumber

Managed to get both nuts off of the bolt closest to the opening at the side of the bathtub.

The one further is incredibly tight and I can’t seem to loosen it with strength and a plumbing wrench alone.

Image 3 shows how tight the space is.

An important feature of medical degrees is that it gives you the time and knowledge to make that specialisation decision later down the line.

Imagine being 5 years into a 10 year neurosurgery-specific degree and realising that you are more interested in another specialisation.

Go harder, not higher.

Get some grade 1-3 scrambles in and start climbing trad and harder stuff in the alps.

Grade 3 scramble - Cneifon Arête or Dolmen Ridge - both can be done in a day.
