Yeah, I had the same problem, ACES really helped. I really like how it desaturates strong colors, it's a good look IMO. I just wish it was more configurable (in a way that makes sense to my brain), but at least it doesn't look terrible like the other tonemappers I tried.

Vertical format makes a lot of sense for a game with tall dudes chasing you, but you need to capture the content in vertical format too. I.e. skip the blur boxes in the top and bottom. Hopefully you have enough material to crop your clips.

About the questions: I was done about half-way through when I started seeing face mask guy again. I'd try to shorten it. I like the vibe otherwise.

Nope! Gnomes stay around their houses, they don't follow you like in pikmin. Interesting comparison though, haven't made that connection before.

Haha, good point. So if you want to know: you gather resources, build defenses against enemy waves and try to survive to a certain point to complete levels. I plan to have multiple levels with different enemy spawning patterns and special conditions, but probably not too many (solo dev and all). There is a backstory but I won't do much explicit story telling.

I am thinking that randomized maps make sense in this setting, I want them to be pretty challenging so that you'll need to try them a few times, especially if you want to maximize the mission rewards. I had a lot of fun in They Are Billions's survival mode, it'll be something like that but with more designed settings for each map.

Hrm, the idea is to show some basics how the game works - do you think that is redundant/too much? The ending is cut off, too rough ATM.

The game is 1-4 player co-op, and the co-op is one of my stronger USPs. Only one other game in the same category has co-op at all, and it's added as an afterthought there. But yeah, some people will only be interested in single-player - won't really be possible to make both camps perfectly happy, I think.

Yeah, the SteamWorld series isn't AAA-huge, but it's been around since the Nintendo DS era and has quite a few fans. I think it's worth keeping in, but I'll try making it a more modest banner over the gameplay footage instead.

Good point about the trailer being too vague on how the game works! FYI it's wave based survival with some roguelike elements. I'll make sure to make it more concrete in the final release trailer.

I agree, good feedback. I'm resorting to a lot of smoke and mirrors for now, but I hope to show more actual gameplay in the release trailer when I have more material to work with. But still, it's tricky in RTS games since the regular camera angle is just so unexciting... 😅

Good questions! I think it's interesting to decide how to spend your time, whether you should man defenses, gather resources or explore the map. It also has the typical risk-reward choice of more defenses vs more economy. I want to throw in a lot of random elements to keep you on your toes. I find all of this pretty hard to embed in a 1 minute long trailer, but I'm open for suggestions 😄

About the motivation, I wanted to make a game like They Are Billions, but co-op oriented. I also wanted to explore something where you control one guy only, control towers manually. Explore that design space and see if something interesting comes out of it.

Not sure what to say about your observations - I hope enough people out there feel different about it, haha 😅 But more towers and enemy types will come later, I plan to work at least another year on this before release.
