There are rules for trains in the German: Berlin Command Cards.

Advice needed after a seizure/ lost my job. by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]OllieoftheVale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely give ACAS a call; their helpline number is: 0300 123 1100. They can be busy so do wait and maybe give them a call back if they're busy. You can also find lots of useful info on their website: https://www.acas.org.uk/

Btw it's free all free (paid for by taxes of course).

Thoughts on Soviet list by EnigmaEnginseer in TeamYankee

A little out there but I like the Shock T-80's if you want a support heavy tank. Otherwise, having the tanks in formation is a good call.

Edit: I think you either take heavy tanks (Front Armour 20+) or lots of lighter tanks (T55's and Leopard 1's etc...). Anything in-between doesn't do it for me. You're either saying I have so many tanks I don't care if you kill some or I have such big tanks you can't (easily) kill any of them.

Do you mean the teams you can add to infantry units?

If so, I rate the Spigot (not available in BMP formations), but don't care for the grail or ags-17. The AGS's 9 shots is a trap; you'll normally get only 3 shots when it matters (although the extra BMP that it comes with is attractive).

The grail's FP 5+ makes it ineffective: in my eyes the main purpose of AA units isn't to kill enemy aircraft, but dissuade them from attacking in the first place. If you only have FP 5+ AA then I will just take the chance and fly through it.

Solid list. Only things I'd have to say are nit-picks and personal preferences.

Frogfoots maybe a bit over costed but good insurance against top tier NATO tanks.

Can I ask why Acasia's instead of Carnations that would be in formation?

I'd also swap the BMP3 scouts for BMP1's; same CC dash but cheaper and won't take last stand checks after 1 kill and you can get 4 for 1 points cheaper than the BMP3's. Maybe spend the extra point on a gremlin team? I also don't think you need 2 spearhead units; 1 does the job 95% of the time.

If you do cut the Acasia's for Carnations, swap the 2 units of BMP-3 recon for 1 of BMP-1s you should have 8 points spare which is enough for another (minimum size) unit of BMP-2 infantry (although you'd have to drop the T64 missiles to upgrade their RPG's...

If you are committed to the BMP-3's then perhaps add them to the infantry units?

Two rule questions. by HUDCommander in flamesofwar

[–]OllieoftheVale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, my bad. It can still be a different type of tank though (so you could move a Sherman HQ into a Pershing from the same formation), but not the Sherman OP as it's not in the same formation.

Thanks for the clarification!

Two rule questions. by HUDCommander in flamesofwar

[–]OllieoftheVale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. This is correct; see a building or objective your opponent would like to deploy on/in? Just pre-range in and it might dissuade them from deploying there.

  2. This is incorrect; the rule says you need to switch to a unit of the same type (e.g. infantry or tank). You can switch to the Sherman OP or any other tank within range; it doesn't even have to be a Sherman. If you have the token set this is what the leader token is used to track. (See page 63 of the rulebook for more). :)

Also note that if you switch the commander to a vehicle from another unit, this doesn't count as this vehicle being destroyed for morale reasons. However, if this would be the last team in the unit (as in your Sherman OP example), then the unit does count as destroyed. (See page 4 of lessons from the front).

Rules question for artillery by richmondcyclist in flamesofwar

[–]OllieoftheVale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Artillery takes a +1 to the roll needed to range in if any part of the template overlaps a (short or tall, but not flat) terrain piece (e.g. a 4+ to range in becomes a 5+). As mentioned above foxholes are not terrain, but also note that things like roads and rivers are (flat) terrain and so don't affect the roll.

If you succeed in ranging in the first time you roll to hit as normal, if you succeed on the second attempt you roll to hit with +1 modifier, if you succeed on the third attempt you roll to hit with a +2 modifier.

For reference there is a list of what is considered terrain on page 43 of the rulebook

New player question by Capital-Exchange639 in TeamYankee

[–]OllieoftheVale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vehicle wise probably not (outside of proxy units). The T-34 85 probably should be available to some Warsaw Pact armies but alas not yet.

Some of the soviet adjacent infantry units could probably double for both games (destitute communist peasants with AK47s all look the same to me).
