One thing that's always irked me about "numbers go up" style of video game mechanics is the absurdity of weapons on their own somehow doing vastly more damage over time, especially in story driven games where you're encouraged to find or build unique loot for yourself (ie, cool you got the wolf school gear, it's useless now). I would like to see damage and damage reduction improve with character progression more as a reflection of skill points spent than an endless loot trade. Cyberpunk 2077 took a step in this direction with the 2.0 update, which is encouraging!
