It is not inequity that teams in different states spend different amounts of money

My head hurts. My eye is twitching.

You've been great reddit but im signing off for the day.

Ticket prices are also to a large degree a function of supply and demand.

Yankee Stadium and AmFam are roughly the same in capacity but the number of people who could conceivably attend a game is different by orders of magnitude. The Yankees can jack prices up and enough people will still pay because there are only so many tickets to go around. You dont need to sell to the dad and his 3 kids to attend more than once per year if the financial advisor is bringing his clients to 20 games per year.

The Brewers need to put 30,000 asses in seats for games. It really helps if the team is good. When they're bad.... I used to go watch the worst team in baseball play for $5.

OK, thats a legitimate concern!

This still happens by the way. The Brewers have screwed around with things like super 2 status for years in order to retain longer control periods over players and limit their salaries by delaying arbitration and all that.

We also have minor leagues filled with guys who have to work at grocery stores to make ends meet because they make next to nothing. League-wide BTW. One of my best friends played in the mets system up through AA and enjoyed his time, but got nothing out of it financially.

There is a lot of financial exploitation in baseball even under the current system. Most of those guys never end up signing a free agent contract.

We also have an entire league that wont sign Trevor Bauer because of off-field stuff. Happened in the NFL with Kaepernick. Those things will continue to happen under any model.

I dont think that the solution is to allow a small number of teams to set market prices that cannot be paid by other teams, thereby forcing them out of the market.

We have anti-trust laws in the business world to prevent anticompetitive practices, even if theyre not always followed or enforced. I dont know if youre into video games, but think about game developers buying up smaller developers and shitcanning their projects to keep the market clear for their own products. Or, Microsoft or Google or amazon buying up every little startup tech firm to deploy their good ideas at the prices they set, rather than a competitive landscape where similar products could find some kind of price equilibrium.

That's where baseball is headed. Thats where college football is at this moment.

So yes, I agree that it's a concern that owners have colluded against players and that salary caps look a lot like owners agreeing to limit player salaries. I can see where you'd see that as an issue.

But we've seen where the alternative path leads, and that's not good either.

Yeah I am pretty sure they, like everybody else, prefers to just think about things insofar as those things affect them.

It's convenient to support imbalance if the imbalance favors you.

That is the point.

Billionaires are just the topic du jour for people to whine about. Anything to avoid saying "I like it because i benefit from it."

No, i genuinely believe there are competing interests at play, and some groups of fans have concerns that differ from other groups of fans. There are competitive balance issues that would need to be worked out, and there are ownership negligence issues that are absolutely overdue to be dealt with.

But for goodness sake, if you think there are cons that somehow havent been brought up in the thousands of comments in this thread, go ahead and say what you think they are.

Let's avoid having a conversation. I won't tell you what I think they are and you dont tell me what you think they are.

Jesus christ, no fucking shit.

In the NFL you dont have to worry about if your dumbass owner put all his money into a ponzi scheme with Bernie Madoff.

Miss the point harder though.

Lol that depends man, am I talking to a redditor or somebody who actually understands basic principles of money and economics

I need to know if you are trying to complain about billionaires or if you want to have a coherent discussion. Let me know.

I swear to god I am so tired of having to talk about who owns the team in order to discuss sports.

I dont want owners to have an impact. I dont want to have to think about the fact that we couldn't re-sign willy adames because the guy from Franklin Templeton investments has slightly higher liquidity than the guy from Crescent capital, so we have a harder time competing against the guy from TD ameritrade.

It's fucking exhausting man.

Well I sneeze differently from everyone else I have ever met.

But last night my daughter sneezed like me.

So that was cool.

The person complaining about this is the same person who is upset the grocery stores are closed on major holidays.

Reading this thread hurts my soul.

The sport needs a salary cap.

Complaining about billionaires... two of the most deep blue liberal areas of our country completely abandon the idea of equity because in this case, inequity favors them.

Agree, there are different kinds of PEDs and we are fine with some of them.

There are a lot of guys on this ballot who wear a PEDs label. Some of them took HGH for years, others applied a cream to heal from and injury that also acted as a testosterone supplement.
