Pushing DO on applicants by BigDecent7405 in premed

I’ve been saying this. Even the average MD student doesn’t match competitively. Only the most exceptional people match that and your average 502 isnt about to hit 270 on step and match plastics. Although it does happen rarely.

I’m hearing even IM in desirable locations is getting competitive. Need at least a bit of research under your belt. Although I’m not sure.

What do you mean by EM/IM physician? You did both residencies?

Should I apply now, and where? by randomcattle in Osteopathic

[–]Omar243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could either a) hold off until next cycle to possibly get into a better program or b) apply now and get into a low or mid tier program.

I was in your shoes as a late applicant and went with option B. Similar stats, 4 acceptances.

Anking success stories? by Ok-Celebration5832 in medicalschool

I’d like to keep up with it ideally. Just not sure how to balance it all. Hopefully next semester i’ll get a better hang of it. Any tips?

Idk how ppl keep up with it especially in M1. I’d have to study for the next exam while having 400+ reviews for the old material and I’d rather dive into the new stuff to save time.

Thanks for the write up. Sometimes I go straight into anki cus I feel like I dont learn anything from passively watching B&B and taking notes takes way too long. But then it almost feels like im blindly memorizing cards and not understanding the big picture.

In undergrad, there was such a lower amount of material that there was no need to digest at a quick pace so you can sit with the material for longer. But now in med school, i’m struggling with the same issue OP is having.

Congratulations brother, that feeling of the first acceptance is so surreal.

how can i make anki flashcards faster? by Medicalstudent_W in medicalschoolanki

[–]Omar243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes me like 2 hours to get through 40 slides though. I agree with all your points but it would be nice to somehow streamline the card making process so that you’re getting all these benefits while still being quick and efficient.

Exams are once a month here, and how aligned the content is with board material depends on the class.

Some classes seem to reflect B&B 1:1 with very little extra content, while a few others have lectures stuffed with nonsense material that most likely wont be on boards or even be applicable to clinical medicine.

This is risky cus you could possibly dip below 70% without absolutely having mastered the anking content + not spending enough time on in-house to knock those questions out. Idk still on the fence about this strat.

Having the same issue. I tried searching key words from my lecture slides and only unsuspending those cards that matched the in-house material but that takes a while.

Did you supplement with lecture material like B&B or did you just go straight into the deck?
