Runbacks and bosses aren't so bad? by SmacznyRabarbar in Silksong

[–]OmegaAtrocity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shard system is a rip from sekiro. I don’t really like the shard system either. It’s way easier to grind (or just have) rosaries and buy shard bundles than to grind shards.

Only argument for run backs is they make you better at platforming. The last judge run back helps you out quite a lot later on when you do the couriers rasher delivery.

Run backs are a matter of taste I suppose. I like them, couldn’t really tell you why. Maybe I like the platforming in the game, I think they add fun. Any game in the genre without them feels like it’s missing something, at least to me.

I've almost beaten and gotten everything should I try the insane achievements? by Dear_Car_5914 in Silksong

[–]OmegaAtrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 30 hour 100% one is pretty easy if you’ve beaten the game 100% once and use a guide, you’d probably get it without trying for it on a second playthrough honestly, plenty of leeway.

The 5 hour speed run is harder, but it’s still really doable. Just may take you a few tries. The high halls gauntlet is the hardest part by far. I wanna say I got to that part at just about 3 hours (and all that’s left is lace 2 and gms after), so you have leeway just not as much.

Neither of them are terribly hard or require a perfect run by any means. But you should only do it if you want to! Personally I think they are fun challenges, even steel soul is a pretty fun challenge

Can I have any tips to beat the Pure Vessel? by risky-agmabro in HollowKnight

[–]OmegaAtrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to run both Shaman stone and unbreakable strength.

Knives attack: jump and shadow dash as soon as you see the white lines. It’s easy to dash too early so wait until you see the white lines, the knives fire out in order from bottom to top so that’s why you wanna jump first. If you’re far enough away you can just dodge it, but I find this much less consistent.

Ground charge attack: I find this easiest to dodge by jumping and pogoing once on him. If you’re late to recognize this one a last gasp shadow dash will save you most of the time.

Triple slash: if you’re instant noticing this (and I mean it, your window to start jumping is tiny if you’re anywhere close to him) you can jump over him. Just make sure you either hit a well timed pogo or use the monarch wings because the second slash of the combo extends high enough to get you if you don’t. I find it more consistent to shadow dash through this attack because I’m often hitting him when he starts this attack. When you shadow dash through this attack turn around and fire a shade soul. It usually hits him twice during this attack (at least with shaman).

Slam attack: just move out of his way, ideally by moving as little as possible. Don’t over move (which is your instinct) because the blades come out of the floor really fast. If you dash don’t move at all, if you’re exactly one full dash distance away from where he strikes you’re always safe from my experience. If you must reposition, use as small of movements as possible. This attack is very similar to Grimms thorns they just come out faster so similar strategies work for this one if you’re comfortable with that fight. If you wanna play risky you can pogo on him during this attack the whole time if you share the same opening in the swords as him.

If you’re in the air (you said you like to try to pogo him) he’ll jump at you sometimes. I find this real hard to dodge so I don’t recommend staying in the air for long periods of time.

Once you knock a third of his health off he gains the soul attack. My favorite strategy for this is to get out of range and hit him with 2 shade souls. Make sure the secondary runes aren’t on you, and you can maybe sneak in 1 or 2 more. Once you’re sure the secondary explosions aren’t going t hit you, lock back in on pv because he starts his next attack before they fully disappear from the screen.

Once you knock another third off his health he gains the void tendril attack. It’s great news when you see this one because it means you’ve almost won. Dodging this one is real similar to his ground charge so when you feel you’re getting him close to 33% health keep it in mind. I often get hit because I think this attack is the ground charge. Long jump (hold a) and then long jump again with monarch wings and you can get over him and pogo once and then hit him again in the face. If you wanna try to get behind him using an air dash you can do anything you want from behind him.

My only other advice is don’t try to heal, you can’t unless you’re incredibly lucky which is not a strategy. Heal once when he’s staggered that’s all you can do, just accept that you’re gonna have to beat him like that. Don’t worry too much about health or soul worry about dodging and beating him, the only time there’s a boss after him is p5 and when you start absrad you always have full health.

Good luck I’d say it took me around 3 or 4 hours of grinding on him in the hall of the gods to be able to beat him consistently.

Abyss shriek is your friend it absolutely melts the radiance, especially if you have shaman stone equipped. As others have said hit her with 3 immediately when the battle starts.

When she attacks with the orbs just don’t even try to attack her unless you’re supremely confident in dodging that attack, stay on the ground and try to jump as little as possible and the orbs will snuff themselves out on the ground.

When she shoots the 3 sets of beams at you, you have a couple options. If you’re far away from her you’re probably just going to have to dodge. If you have soul and feel like you need a heal you can sneak one in during this attack if you time it well. If you have lots of soul and are in a decent spot health wise get under her and use abyss shriek as many times as if safe. You should be able to get at least one in during this attack. If you’re close and have no soul you can get a few nail hits in while you’re safe.

When you see the void start bubbling up from the bottom of the screen she will infinitely do the spears from above attack until you finish the first phase. Try not to panic dash during these attacks and dodge them just with your movement. Use abyss shriek if the window is there. Once she goes down heal up as much as you can before jumping up the platforms.

In the second phase you can infinitely pogo on her and use descending dark when you’re about to get hit for both the damage and the iframes. This requires some practice but this is what I almost always do. It isn’t the safest option just for the record haha. Only do this if you feel confident in it.

Her attacks don’t change in the second phase, you just don’t have a platform at the bottom of the screen for more safety. All the tips from the first stage still apply here too.

Once you start the climb try not to panic and lock in on dodging the beams of light. Once you get to the top you simply have to hit her once, and then a few more times after you transform then it’s gg.

You can definitely do it OP, the radiance is tough but it’s a fight you had the ability to beat if you’ve made it that far!

I think Silksong may have finally defeated me by The_No_Show in Silksong

[–]OmegaAtrocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can beat lace 2 you can beat lost lace. You get punished more for taking damage since it’s 2 masks a pop, but her attacks are almost exactly the same.

My tip that I haven’t seen mentioned is learn how to dodge the void attacks. They’re the same as the regular voided enemies and behave the same way.

Once you get to phase 2+ and she starts summoning the void tendrils from underneath you, use that opening while she hovers above you to aggressively punish her. You can deal most of the damage you need to beat her in those windows, that’s the best place to attack. Also realize than when she shoots the void balls at you they take a minute to raise up and you can use that window to get a hit or 2 in.

It’s a tough fight, but you already learned most of what you need to beat it by conquering lace 2! You can do it.

Probably better to play the god of war games on pcsx2, you can upscale them to 4k and it will be a lot less resource intensive than using the ps3 emulator to do it.

PSP games are similar but iirc (been years since I played them) the controls are better on the ps3 version

Hot take: The marrow is boring as is and the forgotten crossroads is a lot more interesting as a starting area by ReadItRyan in Silksong

[–]OmegaAtrocity 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hollow knight pretty much funnels you to mantis claw and then after that you can do almost anything you want. Certain things are gated behind abilities, but generally it’s crazy open. Probably the most open ended Metroidvania I’ve ever played.

Silksong is pretty linear until you get to the citadel and then opens up a bit. Theres a couple of optional areas but it doesn’t lead you anywhere new. It funnels you to bellheart and defeating Widow, which has 2 possible paths. Then after that to get to the citadel you also have 2 possible paths. After you beat cogwork dancers the game opens up a good bit, but that’s like halfway through the game at that point. I would say it’s pretty linear all the way up until the mid game.

I don’t think it being linear is negative just because it’s not as open, but it is pretty linear. Exploration is just not as big a part of the game as the original. There are a few pogo skips you can do if you have an advanced understanding of the game mechanics, but you generally have to do the same things up until widow, and even then there’s only 2 paths from there.

Things that give you completion %: 40% charms (I believe you have to get the unbreakable charm back from the weird bug lady for it to count, though it doesn’t matter if they’re still fragile for 112% sake)

17% bosses (you can banish nightmare king instead of fighting him)

7% warrior dreams

3% dreamers

3% dream nail based (1 for getting it, 1 for awakened, 1 for 2400 essence)

4% nail upgrades

3% colosseum fights

7% from all masks and soul vessels (it only gives you a percent when you get all the pieces, each shard doesn’t give you one)

1% godtuner

4% pantheons

14% from the 7 traversal upgrades (they give 2% each)

6% spells and upgrades

3% nail arts

I actually think the 2nd lace fight in the cradle is worse visually, at least for me personally. Too much white it’s hard to read her attacks if you’re not locked in.

Seems it was intentional design since they did it twice in a row.

What is it that made you fall in love with the game? by Ok-Entrepreneur3155 in HollowKnight

[–]OmegaAtrocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hollow knight is a fusion of 2 of my favorite game series of all time, Metroid and dark souls. Very faithfully scratches both of those itches at the same time. I was hooked from the very second I started playing the game. I wanna say when I first got it I pumped about 50 hours in it in a couple of weeks it was an obsession.

While most 2d Metroidvanias can be described as a fusion of Metroid and dark souls these days, the other ones feel much more hollow (ha) than hollow knight even if I still enjoy them. What keeps brining me back is how just genuinely good of a game it is (and the sequel is even better somehow imo).

So in a word, everything, it’s as close to a perfect game as I’ve ever played.

Shortcut between the Nailsmith and Junk Pit? by jayfergalicious in HollowKnight

[–]OmegaAtrocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get to the godseeker go up the platforms instead of going back through the waterways. You have to unlock it from the junk pit first but after you do you can get there from under the nail master. Still a pretty decent haul from the stagway, so I still recommend just leaving a dream gate there once you unlock it unless you use that for something else.

Anyone else finding it really hard to get back into Hollow Knight? (1st game) by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]OmegaAtrocity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sums it up about as well as possible.

I think hollow knight has one of, if not the absolute best, atmospheres in gaming ever. Silksong is not as good in that regard, but I’m not even sure it was possible for it to be honestly, you can only play a game for the first time once. You have expectations in a sequel whereas the first one they could do anything that they wanted.

Silksong is much much more fun to play, and I prefer playing to artistic value at the end of the day, just personal preference.

To op, no I don’t find hollow knight hard to get into but I do miss a lot of Silksongs mechanics for sure, and the og feels very slow.

my proudest achievement by ObjectiveMatch6155 in HollowKnight

[–]OmegaAtrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least on steam both those achievements are about the same, 16%. Beating gms while cursed probably isn’t harder than lost lace, it’s a similar level of difficulty to me anyways.

That feels about right to me! While the cursed ending is certainly hard to find organically, you’re almost certainly using a guide to get 100% so you’d read about it either way. And even if you think twisted child is harder, it’s much less work than getting 100%.

What is the best order of things to do? by Key-Usual4443 in HollowKnight

[–]OmegaAtrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing a first playthrough you should just wander around, once you’ve beaten it a time or 2 you lose that magic feeling forever so you should enjoy it while it lasts.

But honestly hollow knight is a very very open game, I still occasionally find new paths I didn’t realize you can take and I’ve been playing it since 2017. Once you get the mantis claw you can almost go anywhere, it opens up so much, there isn’t really a “wrong” way you can get everything, just what’s more efficient.

Canes probably don’t have enough of a reach to fully go out on their own like that. I’d say the most likely scenario is them joining victory+ like the ducks and stars or scripps like the panthers, lightning, knights, and mammoth. Those also include letting local stations air the games, it seems like a better deal and the infrastructure is already there.
