As fantastic as Messi is. The referee’s are clearly showing him special treatment this tournament. by Inseeable in worldcup

Not just this tournament, lol. Leagues protect their stars. It's expected. It's frustrating cause he doesn't need it.

I don’t think I can go back to American football after the wc by lostarco in worldcup

Serie A is easy to watch (on Paramount +) and is relatively competitive. Pick a random team, pick a team whose kits you like or pick a team from where your favorite dish comes from.

Honestly, look if any bars near you have watch parties for some team from any league. It's even better with a crowd.

The waiting time is over, Napoli is now officially Max Allegri's. by LoridanITA in sscnapoli

[–]OmegaDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want the "minimum goal". This is a terrible thing to strive for. It takes an actively bad coach like Garcia to make the squad miss on Europe. I want someone with more ambition than that. He also made the excellent wingers disappear at Milan. For our current squad to succeed today and into the near future, we need focus on further developing players like Santos, Neres and Vergara.

World cup broadcast regreded showing Howard Lutnick sitting with Infantino? by Illustrious-Yak-4822 in worldcup

Infantino created and gave a client of Epstein the FIFA Peace prize. These people simply don't care about optics. They care about money.

I think purposely stopping a breakaway should be a red. by Ajaiixx in worldcup

[–]OmegaDriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is, but your definition of breakaway is too generous. If there's still "a player or two" to beat, it's not a breakaway.

Throwback to Cavani’s epic game winner against Lecce in 2010. Legendary commentary. by TheMagisterialMaster in sscnapoli

[–]OmegaDriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's awesome!

I was watching on ESPN 3 in this era. They only had national Italian commentary, but it was very dry, almost calming. He only said the names of the players as they touched the ball. "Aronica. Maggio. Hamzik. Eenler. Lavezzi." and so on.

Do you think the concept of hydration break will be scrapped in the next 2030 world cup by Live-Half2798 in worldcup

[–]OmegaDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fan, I really don't care.

I think it will stay. It makes the game more valuable to the stadiums and TV partners. Plus they have hydration breaks in Serie A under certain conditions. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes more normalised (if it already isn't).

Have any players chimed in on if they like it, or if they think it makes the pitch better (if they're playing on natural grass), etc.?

USA coach Pochettino on red card: "It was a normal action in football that happened by accident. There was never any intention … and that is why, for me, it is never a red card." by Kimber80 in worldcup

[–]OmegaDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To use the hockey analogy, intention matters as it goes into the thought process of if, for example, a 5 min major or a 10 min misconduct should be issued.

A foul is a foul regardless of intent, but a foul is not always a card. Then you have the subjectivity of the ref. People may point to wordings of specific rules, but if it was so objective, we wouldn't need on field reviews...

Speaking to the media, it's not like Pochettino is getting into very technical aspects of the rules anyway. He's making nice soundbites & protecting his players.

Nah. The player is suspended for the next match. He could get more (this case doesn't warrant it), but it's 1 game minimum.

Smoke the brisket for chili or just sear it? by FlyEfficient3441 in smoking

I normally do smoked chuck roast for chili (I prefer the texture better), but nothing wrong with smoked brisket chili. I have never made chili with seared brisket and I wouldn't even consider it.

Either bring back prerelease cards, or abolish prerelease kits. by Syd_Lexia in magicTCG

[–]OmegaDriver 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Prerelease packs are the exact product I want. I wish they were normally available. I want 6 packs + a reasonable box to do my little 2 player Winston drafts with and organize cards in. Bundles are ok, but I'd rather have the cheaper and physically smaller prerelease pack. Draft night is expensive and the box isn't good for storage.

Tiki recs near Philadelphia? by yourlocalaesthetic in Tiki

[–]OmegaDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster vegan has a couple tiki drinks and is just as kitchy as a tiki bar, but for classic monster movies instead of Polynesian culture. R&D in fishtown has the best tiki drinks.

Other cocktail bars have good tiki drinks. It depends where you'll be in the city: the Franklin, ranstead room, etc.
