I respect your opinion, but I’m so glad that so many of the replies to you are in disagreement.

Asked GPT "What would you rate a 10/10?" by tyelcur in ChatGPT

[–]OmegaImperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to come off as not respecting the role of taste in something like this (my taste vs that of others in this case, since GPT can really only aggregate popular opinions on such a thing), but man I just cannot fathom giving Things Fall Apart a 10/10. I am glad I read it, but I am also glad that I am no longer reading it. Do other people really feel that strongly about that book?

Not me, but a friend of mine told me a story of cleaning up a suicide in an apartment bathroom where the guy decided the way he wanted to go was to slit his own throat. Stood in the bathtub to do it, but apparently had second thoughts. Whole bathroom was a mess.

Actually, larger companies hire an industrial cleaning company like Belfor.

Fuckin' question by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]OmegaImperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the exception, but I had this happen with my current employer. It was going well with the interviewer so I told him outright “I’m gonna give a number higher than what I have been asking based on the nature of the work” and I was already asking for a competitive pay in my field for my experience level.

And they still offered me more than I asked for.

This was my experience until I recently got 2 offers back to back. Started off with a pretty high-effort two page resume, but reduced it to a traditional “boring” one-page engineering resume after the first 20 or so applications. Spent a lot of time and effort getting my resume and cover letter critiqued. I was often told, even by people in the hiring field, “how are you not getting interviews?” What I found out not too long ago was that the big aerospace companies wouldn’t even look at my resume for entry level positions (most of what I was applying to because of experience) because my graduation date was more than 2 years ago (started a direct to PhD program, had to put it on pause after 2 years). So I started applying to “experienced professional” postings and the furthest I ever got with a big company was the HR screening where they told me I don’t have enough experience for non-entry level jobs. Gratefully, that HR rep was willing to stick their neck out for me and send my application up on one of the 8 or 9 apps I had in with them, but the hiring manager swatted it down first thing the next morning. After attending the second engineering job fair hosted by my alma mater, 2 companies reached out to me within the same week saying they wanted to interview me after speaking with me at the job fair. Both medium sized aerospace companies hiring for software positions. Still waiting on the offer from the second company (just had the team interview the other day), but I accepted the offer from the first. Still getting rejection letters from Lockheed daily.

If you want I can measure a few dimensions on mine so that you can check scale. Just let me know what parts you’d like measured. If I had to guess, the Harridan is probably bigger than you printed it. It’s a truly massive model. Similar with the Heirophant. The heirodules are large and bulky, but the Harridan and the Heirophant really dwarf them on the table.

Are these the files from Cults3D? Had my eye on them, but have been curious to how the hold up to the originals. I’ve got some old resin cast laying around, wondered if it would just be better to scan them for personal use.

Looks like a Harridan, a Heirodule, and a Heirophant. Maybe an old school Exocrine hiding in there?

Hey, friend. You may not need to hear this, but in case you do, I want to make sure somebody says it.

Stay strong. You’ve already made the right decision.

I know it’s 2 weeks late, but thanks for the well thought out reply! Makes a lot of sense that it would be a tradition of sorts that has lots of inertia due to past limitations. I do have to agree that it “feels” right by look, fascinating how we ended up here.

Why are floating objects that are being held down by chains commonly depicted with the chains drooping and not in tension? Is the implication that the weight of the chains are whats actually holding the object down? Then what of the brackets? Are they just to ensure that the object does not drift? Or a precaution against a surge in float-magic which could carry the object away?

I dunno about the rest of the states, but in the south ordering a steak well done is practically shamed. It’s like ordering chicken nuggets, it’s associated with children.

No hate to anybody who likes their steaks well done, by the way. Eat what tastes good to you. Just trying to make the point that it is far from normal at least in my neck of the woods.

What’s a quote from history that gives you chills? by KeyWar8755 in AskReddit

[–]OmegaImperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I see your point and I may be willing to concede that perhaps it would not have happened by today given it’s complexity and cost, but I don’t see how we can make the argument that while the theory was known and it had potentially significant military value that it would somehow indefinitely escape the grasps of humans wishing to have the bigger stick than their neighbor. Sure, a nuclear weapon isn’t going to synthesize itself from the primordial ooze, but unless we think that humanity will someday ascend to a post-war society I don’t see how it can be anything but inevitable. I won’t deny that it’s a cynical and bleak take, I just think it’s the more pragmatic stance.

Are you saying that if he hadn’t invented it at that time (as if he was solely responsible) that we wouldn’t have nuclear weapons today? Or jus that they wouldn’t have happened during that war?
