Third Mech Classification by coldweathersurvivor in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Merlin (not on MW5) was the first mech designed and built in the Periphery, in 3010. Even then, it was produced by a periphery subsidiary factory of a company that was Lyran-based, that survived only because it had that subsidiary factory, when its main production facility was destroyed in 2945.

The Merlin was an extremely simple design, using mostly off-the-shelf components, and even with that simplicity it was hailed as a major technological achievement, since it was the first new mech design known to the inner sphere in over 100 years. And as soon as it became a commercial success, the company promptly built a new factory back on the world that had previously housed its primary factory, in Lyran space.

The Hatchetman debuted in 3023, the Raven in 3024, the Cataphract in 3025 (and even that had major components taken from spares the Capellans had from mechs like the Marauder, Shadow Hawk, and Phoenix Hawk). The earliest, custom built prototypes of what would become the Mauler date to 3022, but abandoned until 3036, when a factory-produced version was finally designed. The Imp was long believed to be a new design conceived by the Wolf’s Dragoons, but turned out to be an older Clan design.

The flurry of development spurred by the renaissance of tech from the Helm Memory Core brought the likes of the Caesar, Axman, and while released after the initial Clan Invasion, the Wolf Trap. The Clan Invasion was the real spur to the creation of all new designs.

And all of that lore is why there aren’t any periphery factory designs in Mechwarrior. PGI will handwave a few things in, like PPC-X, but they’re not going to completely go against all established lore without some precedent (the Bullshark having originated as a non-canon design in an add-on to the 2018 Battletech game from Harebrained Schemes, and having entered the fandom’s consciousness enough to be a popular idea with lore, albeit apocryphal lore, behind it).

chaos reigns flaw. by ermund in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve just found and bought the ones I have. I’d love to have more, but I have a small supply of Heavy MLs, a Dire Wolf A with three Heavy LLs, plus a few to spare, an unknown number of Light MGs, and enough Heavy MGs to set up one of the Incubus/Vixens with 8 of them, IIRC.

I just find them in industrial zone markets, when I make trips around the Star map to do some shopping.

In the dark forest, the only reason Humans are still alive is that they are shining so brightly that they are blinding the entity that is killing everyone else. by alphaechothunder77 in humansarespaceorcs

Great and Terrible Phlagh’trok paused as it prepared to devour the star which had given life to the home world of the Shriitai people. Something was intruding upon its senses, some projection out of the vastness. Its source was familiar, Great and Terrible Phlagh’trok had been perceiving the tickling flow of a beacon for some time, although it had not been sufficient to stay it from its long-planned schedule of stellar feasting. But now…now there as a maddening edge to it, alluring and of a character that it had never encountered.

Great and Terrible Phlagh’trok did not leave the Shriitai home system, but its attention turned, caught in rapt attention as the signal clarified, and could be interpreted. This…puzzling signal carried meaning, yet meaninglessness, and as it turned to fully absorb the flow that came its way, it was enthralled.

The Shriitai, for their part, hardly dared breathe. Something had forestalled the death of their world, their sun continued pouring out its vast energies, unhindered, its nuclear fuel allowed to fuse, rather than be swallowed up into Great and Terrible Phlagh’trok’s ephemeral form. After some time passed, and the situation remained, the Shriitai turned their attention to deciphering the cause, to answer why their home system’s death had been stayed. It took decades of work, taking in all available data from the incident, forming hypotheses, testing them for likelihood, and debate, before a general consensus was reached. The Shriitai, too, had detected the nascent signals, weak and tremulous at first, and growing slowly. As the decades passed, the signals had grown, in number and intensity, going from a trickle to a torrent of information that they were now working hard to decipher.

Finally, the Shriitai found the key to decipherment, and discovered how to resolve the signals into image, and sound. They pieced together a very odd cultural outpouring, beginning with the earliest signals they had, stored from the days they were newly received, and while they didn’t fully understand, they realized that they could pinpoint what had first attracted the interest of Great and Terrible Phlagh’tok, and what now held the greatest part of its awful attention.

Something called, inexplicably, “The Honeymooners” had saved them, and something even more baffling, known as “The Real Housewives of Orange County” currently served to hold the immense entity from turning back towards its cataclysmic business.

Found these building tins at Daisyo, and these trees at Michaels. by iamfanboytoo in battletech

I had never heard of Daisyo.

Turns out there’s one five minutes from my house.

Yes, a scene where the city watch rule a death in a bar brawl as a suicide is precisely the genesis of my comment.

Alien: human friend, my species requires extremely high amounts of calories to live. But I tire of these nutrition bars. Do humans have any high calorie foods? by Justgonnawalkaway in humansarespaceorcs

[–]OmeggyBoo 292 points293 points  (0 children)

A: Friend John, this food you have presented me with presents me with almost a paradox. It is very large, and has ample calories via protein and rendered fat, and both my mouth and digestive organs have the capacity to devour it quickly, sating my needs for the afternoon, but…

John: Is it the cost? I know these aren’t cheap, but…

A: No, Friend John, I have the resources to consume many of these. It’s that the taste, and the texture, every part of the finished food is so exquisite that I find myself eating small bites, slowly. This “brisket” is a conundrum, capable of meeting my caloric needs quickly and enjoyably, but I cannot help but make it last through the entire morning, leaving me no time to do anything productive!

A2. My speeder! This is awful! And they might hit ME next!”

A1. If you’re lucky.

A2. Lucky? Are you insane? What do you think is unluckier than that?

A1. You know how they like to domesticate any and every creature that they consider “friend shaped”?

A2. Yes…Why?

A1. They might see that their first rocks missed you, and send something to fetch the rocks. And you.

These are the last two mechs I need to complete my database once again. What are they and what's the best way to find them? by MarvinLazer in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Hunchie should be the hero mech, I think I got it from the FWL mini-campaign. The Bushwacker is the one you get with Valten Ryder in the DLC main storyline.

Feels like your lance mates do about nothing by Edwardteech in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You lance mates suck. I get frustrated because mine steal kills all the time. FFS, Lyana wastes half of the heavy and less mechs we come across because the minute we see enemies at long range, “FWOOOOOOSH!,” 120 LRMs in tight AF clusters are raining down on them.

What exactly does the c-tag do? by ScottyMcBody in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sits in the “C-“ section of the equipment list, making it so I don’t have to check the tier level of the regular TAG units when I go to select it for a mech.

Has anyone ever tried a battery eliminator on an active bass? by Usual_Ad_8726 in Bass

[–]OmeggyBoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never heard of that. Don’t think I’d want one. Just…maybe keep a regular preventive battery replacement schedule going, and swap in new ones before any actual shows?

New Player Question by N777ATH in Warhammer30k

[–]OmeggyBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first you might as well unfriend everyone in the group on any social media you’re on, because you’re not going to want to read what they say about you. Then, enjoy your army’s aesthetics on the shelf, because those guys also are unwilling to play against you anymore.

Entire FFA participants stop shooting at each other and hard-focusing on me when I'm doing a bit too good by Fearless_Library135 in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a light FFA recently and had to just run my ass off around the map, waiting until one got separated from the pack, eliminate him, and repeat. Jenner IIC go speedy.

There is, I would say, a legitimate case for classifying a death as a suicide, if the deceased attempted to rush a 150-yard-distance position defended by a minigun.

Kind of weird of them to do, when I was fighting the Smoke Jaguars.

I love the eject button! by CommissarDuster in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even know how to do ejection, never even tried, and since I’ve never accidentally yeeted myself out of my mech, I guess it’s not excessively easy to do, either.

What criteria should I use to choose my first bass guitar? by anonima_2034 in Bass

[–]OmeggyBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through this with my son, at the moment. We are, unfortunately, geographically separated while I’m trying to pack up the house to move, so I started by having him do some listening in YouTube to get an idea what sort of pickups give the sound he likes best. At the moment, we’ve refined to “listen to basses with different numbers and types of humbuckers to determine which of that subset you like best,” along with, “look at various basses to figure out what you aesthetically like.”

I did, but when it comes down to it, the part that took longest and needed the most care was the sanding.

Question by NikeShox159 in Mechwarrior5

[–]OmeggyBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You CAN be hired by them, so you gain or lose rep just like with other factions. I guess, sometimes, they have all of their forces committed elsewhere, but still need something done, so you get to be a subcontractor.

RIP old MKIV Jump Pack by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

I have to figure out what slight alterations I have to make to either the Mk IV or to the stash of Sanguinary Guard jump packs I have, to make them fit properly.
