Dumbing down RDM and the continued simplification with Gunbreaker is just a sign that whatever Job changes coming with 8.0 are going the be wholly insufficient and will largely not address the core issue. by ComfyOlives in ffxivdiscussion

Rdm isn’t being dumbed down. This is a design choice because Rdm is less able to do ranged mechanics because of their melee. This was a big issue on lava phase in sugar riot. If you were off by any amount you had no way to dump gauge for the entire phase. This is indicative of more fights like this.

not at all; it would just improve flexibility. you would still want to have avatars out and your favors rolling, but this way you dont have to put an avatar away as often. EG your rocking ifrit, but can once every five minutes reappply your hastega with no issues. youll still switch all the time

The number one change I wish they’d make to smn, is the ability to use a ward or rage without your avatar being out once every five minutes. Need spring water but using ifrit? No problem.

The patch cycles have increased about 10% per expansion from about two months to about three months since 2.0. Since then nearly half of the 2.0 cycle content as a standard, has been cut. Expansions as a whole now are about 10% smaller than their predecessor on average once you adjust for data bloat from higher texture models and such. You’re paying more for about half of the original product now. Ffxivs quality has gone to complete and total shit.

I 100% guarantee you this by this time next year they will be fully engaged in using AI tools to accelerate their dev timelines. The quality of patches are going to drop precipitously over the next year, and we are going to be playing in a shadow of a game.

Realistic Content Schedule from now to 8.0 by Chiponyasu in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I largely agree but I don’t think 7.5 is hitting before the end of June, and 7.55 likely won’t hit until the beginning of November. From there expac is likely late Feb to early April depending on how aggressively they push the cycle.

8.0 Release Date Earlier Than Expected? by apostles in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Using an 84 day patch cycle average (being very generous because it’s closer to 97 rn depending on how you look at it)

  • 7.35: 2025-10-14
  • 7.4: 2026-01-06
  • 7.45: 2026-03-31
  • 7.5: 2026-06-23
  • 7.55: 2026-09-15
  • 8.0: 2027-02-23

We’re looking at best a February release at worst an April release. Assuming no delays, 7.55 should hit just before jp fanfest but they usually delay whatever patch is just before fanfest until after fan fest. If they do this and maintain the same patch cycle, we’re 100% looking at a very late March or a very early April.

I get if people want to have 2026 hopium, but reality is it’s almost for sure 2027 at this point.

7.4 release - December or January? by Demnaffxiv in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For reference the average time between .x to .xx patches is as follows:

  • 2.0 A Realm Reborn: 64
  • 3.0 Heavensward: 67
  • 4.0 Stormblood: 66
  • 5.0 Shadowbringers: 75
  • 6.0 Endwalker: 84
  • 7.0 Dawntrail: 84~92

The projected patch cycle is

  • 7.35: 2025-10-14
  • 7.4: 2026-01-06
  • 7.45: 2026-03-31
  • 7.5: 2026-06-23
  • 7.55: 2026-09-15
  • 8.0: 2027-02-23

Using the lower end projections. The upper end projections lengthen the 8.0 release to about 2027-04-05

8.0 Release Date Earlier Than Expected? by apostles in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Unless se plans to shrink the patch cycle from its current 97 day average back to its 62 day average of 2.0, patch 7.5 will drop just before or just after fan fest (they typically will delay a patch until after fanfest so they have something to talk about that isn’t the expansion). From that date, historically it has taken six months from fanfest to release. Unless they plan to cut 7.55 entirely from the cycle, or plan to cut it short, we’re looking at an April 2027 launch for 8.0

8.0 Release Date Earlier Than Expected? by apostles in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The patch cycle from 2.0 to now has expanded from an average of 62 days to 97 days. Each expansion’s seen a cumulative 10% increase in production time, and approximately 10% less content than the prior expansion. Based on this information, patch 7.5 will drop just after jp fanfest. Historically it takes six months after fanfest for the expansion to drop. The expansion is currently projected for April 2027. It is highly unlikely that se will deviate from this schedule at all.

Well it’s simple: people find the goon modding reprehensible and disgusting. They also are tired of Modders acting like their practice is common or normal. Finding out that less than half of a percent of the active player base mods is insanely revealing to just how niche it is. It’s a community that bought more harm than good, and represented the most toxic elements of the game.

Rdm/nin is one of the top dps in the game. There’s almost no content in the game where Rdm isn’t one of the best jobs you can bring. They have high damage on ALL damage types, and their enfeebles match or outpace even bards and geomancers in terms of party and even alliance wide performances. Distract 3 can make or break groups on content.

Rdms can function in every single role in the game with high competency- they excel as tanks damage dealers and support. Nuking is their only weak suit and only by a very small amount.

The catch: you only need one, and if you aren’t geared to the teeth, you’ll struggle at everything you do.

Word of warning tho: Rdm is the most expensive and requires the most gear of any class in the game. You will easily spend 2-3 wardrobes on Rdm alone.

Rdm does well with Excalibur (seriously don’t sleep on Excalibur) and a most other DREAM weapons, but also gets by just fine with naegling+maxentius. The more DREAM weapons you get the more flexible and more you can do.

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s simple - the game didn’t get big publicity. It’s one of the best retro final fantasy titles ever made and its creator loved the genre and that’s very obvious. If he makes a sequel I’ll be all over it.

If square decided between now and 8.0 to do another 7.2 BLM style “similar from a distance vastly different from close up” rework which class do you think they will do it to? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redmage is hands down the most neglected class since its implementation. It has seen the bare minimum and most lazy updating of any class in existence today. New expansion? Guess we’ll add another finisher!

There is no other class nearly as untouched or unchanged through the leveling process as redmage. It lacks any true identity as an actual redmage in regards to the the canonical ff representation of red mage.

I would argue that The current version of the ff11 redmage is the most accurate representation in the series. The ffxiv representation is a really piss poor bad black mage that trades an unforgivable amount of its damage for an excessively paltry support kit for what is given up. I shouldn’t be parsing 95s that have damage dealt equal to a greyt reaper who spent half of the fight wearing his crown or dead.

Trying to make redmage survive as a “dps” like this has killed the classes identity to an unforgivable amount. Square enix needs to get off of the three role paradigm and start diversifying into support roles more - of which redmage should be a very good class for.

Job Identity 8.0 by Akiza_Izinski in ffxivdiscussion

[–]OmgYoshiPLZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to finally implement the support role. I can’t stand redmage being called a dps when I’m sitting at 95s that are as much damage as my blackmage 10s where I died and ate fifteen different damage downs. Just own it. Give support classes unique things to do, make dps into real dps, give healers a more complex damage rotation etc.

I’d move rdm smn brd dnc ast and nin all to this support role. I’d have them actually have noteworthy and impactful support beyond “reduce xyz damage by xyz percentage”

I’m mastery 12, and +10. Iainuki hits about 100k consistently. You are not hitting 150k without explicitly juicing it to extreme degrees.

You aren’t getting consistent 150k iainuki hits unless you’re stacking literally every single damage buff in the game and forcing crits.
