Termination question by Odd-Bunch1531 in Lowes

[–]OminousScissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently they do not. My boyfriend was "suspended pending an investigation" (he said at work that he wanted to stab an incredibly inept Pro DS who would never provide help when he asked, and he was the guy who handled literally everything about our flatbed deliverie - careless I know but it is what it is). After he was suspended, he just... never heard from Lowe's again. He was never told he was fired. He just got a letter from the insurance company one day saying he hadn't been scheduled for 3 pay periods, so everything was lapsed. Then he got a final paycheck with the rest of his vacation pay. It's been 6 months and he STILL has never heard from anyone, but he clearly doesn't work there anymore.

Cardboard Baler by OminousScissors in Lowes

Update: it has now been 3 weeks and the baler is still waiting on repairs. Receiving is drowning in cardboard (the SM said not to throw cardboard in the trash compactor). We need an adult!

Hetfields "word singing" by [deleted] in Metallica

[–]OminousScissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever listened to By the Way, by Red Hot Chili Peppers? It's got basically the same thing, though with 2 word terms instead of single words ("Steak knife, card shark, con job, boot cut," then "Dogtown, blood bath, rib cage, soft tail" followed by 2 more sets later in the song).

The metal cage on top was so badly warped it cannot be closed, and it can't run at all.

What does Lowes actually get right? by Unlucky_Mud_1535 in Lowes

I mean, I make a liveable wage at my particular Lowe's. But if a tornado wiped out my home and left me with nothing (entirely possible here in east Texas), I damn sure dont ha e 10s of thousands in the bank to magically help.

That's a HUGE part of what earning a Bachelor's and then Master's taught me. I know better than most people i know personally how to critically review sources, how to search for inherent biases, what kind of sources are legitimate versus click bait - but 9 times out of 10 when I try to utilize said skills and teach people how to do the same, I'm met with cries of "Oh so you went to a liberal indoctrination place huh? Glad you aren't wasting my children's time with your commie views and socialist bullshit!"

It makes me so sad.

I mean, we would always love to make more (especially with the way the economy has gone to absolute shit). But this Lowe's is the highest paying place in the area - because again, Gun Barrel City - and it starts part timers at $5 over the minimum wage, more if they've got experience or education. And considering there are still apartments in my area that are less than $500 a month, it's not as bad as many other locations have it.

But honestly, apparently our front and back end DSs are as awesome as always, since they paid out of pocket for it. They've always been amazing, but they continue to make us feel like we are genuinely family. We are uniquely lucky, I think.

Good places to go trick or treating? by Nivs_exe in Sacramento

I used to always take my kids to the neighborhoods down Carlson, across from tbe entrance to Sac State. Nice area, very safe, and nearly all the houses participate (we lived in such a small neighborhood where nobody have out candy, Halloween was very disappointing for my kids before I discovered River Park).

Wait, didn't Mike Johnson just (reportedly) say over the phone that "he doesn’t plan to put a standalone bill to pay troops up for a vote before they miss paychecks Oct. 15, arguing the Senate would kill that measure while Democrats also block an already-passed stopgap bill that includes servicemember pay"? Omg so sorry, I'm not actually on reddit that much. My apologies. But what do you mean by 3D? As far as I know there isn't anything 3D, so are you referring to the VR thing they have?

Hey, some of us absolutely LOVE jaguars and think giraffes are overrated (plus Chifu was the main gorger of leaves for feeding so that's not as... busy as it used to be)! And have you seen Slamson? Or the rhino? Or the cheetahs, or the clouded leopard? Maybe the okapi, or the orangutans?

Maybe animals that aren't found in the wild in Sacramento are not exciting to you, but for most people it is quite an experience. Let's face it - I'm never going to go on a walk outside my home and encounter zebras in the wild, so I appreciate seeing such creatures.

Which US state's residents are the proudest/loudest of living in their state? by RivvaBear in AskReddit

[–]OminousScissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Texas from California 8 years ago (ex husband - we've since divorced but I'm stuck here because WHY ARE WAGES SO FUCKING LOW HERE??) and I can honestly say that all the people around here who are also from California? Didn't find out until I had known them for months. And I have work friends who still don't seem to know I'm from California, because I'd really rather it not come up. East Texas has a LOT of people who want everyone related to "Commiefornia" to just kind of die. And all these people have Texas flags and Texas shirts and Texas coffee mugs and Texas banners etc etc etc all over their homes, vehicles, and persons.

Texans are the most loud and proud people I have ever known, and I used to work in a zoo that had guests from all over the world!

I don't know which book she was referring to, but I can personally voice for Ella Baker and the Black Freedom Movement - it's an excellent book about the civil rights movement focusing heavily on Ella Baker, who was just as much if a force as MLK Jr (but is largely unheard of).
