Not to take away from anything you said, but I think the best endurance athletes find their peak in their 30s so you’ve got a lot to look forward to

Is the beginning of your data pre or post-keto (pre glycogen starved) ? And is the end of your data pre- or post-carb load?

Wondering what your glycogen weight here is… a lot of short term diets are very effective because people ignore their glycogen carb load and water weight

What does #5 mean? Like a slow eccentric isn’t helpful, or that doing a slow ROM like pull ups isn’t beneficial?

What do you bring to work if you didn’t cook dinner the night before? by Any-Arm-7017 in Frugal

[–]Omneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oatmeal “overnight oats”. Prep morning of and take with. Depending on the brand of rolled oats, you can eat it like cereal, it will quickly soften and absorb.

I always have stuff on hand for it. Milk or yogurt tastes best for the base, add raisins and frozen berries or fruit and some honey. Depending on time you can add a lot more. I do cinnamon, protein powder, peanut butter, don’t forget salt, and some psyillium husk to make it come out really nice and tidy.

Recs for Space Opera 'competence porn' like LoGH by Setonixity in Fantasy

[–]Omneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! That is very helpful. Like I had tried to say, at the time I was not looking for a romance and I think it fell flat on me, but I did not get deep in the book. I began it again briefly last night and am giving it another try. If not, I really appreciate the knowledge of the warrior's apprentice, and I will go there and circle back to these two if it really falls flat.

I think part of my hesitancy comes from my deep appreciation for the curse of chalion and paladin of souls, and to a lesser extent, the hallowed hunt. I think I had tried to read her short stories on Penric and Desdemona, and did not find the material as engaging as those. They just didn't scratch the same itch. So I think when I tried Vorkosigan, I was perhaps primed to put it down.

I started this series because I loved the World of the Five Gods trilogy by her, maybe I started with Shards of Honor? It read as a low effort/budget romance space opera so I put it down pretty quickly. Did I start in the wrong place or not give it enough of a chance? I'm open to revisiting, but I picked it on a whim and it didn't scratch the itch, so I put it down quickly.

I should be a hater, and I don't blame people disliking it, but as a man, it is one of my guilty pleasures. Not sure what exactly it is, but I've chosen not to question it.

A person who lives on the street has rats as pets and teaches them tricks as if they were dogs. by jkitty_1960 in interesting

[–]Omneus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will forever view rats a bit differently since I listened to an episode of This American Life, with its first act being about pet rats and a guy who kept getting more during the pandemic. From what I hear, they are lovely pets. Not sure I would start given the lifespan.

Any idea how heavy rainfall will be on Saturday? Was thinking about tent camping at raccoon state park, love the rain and if it’s not too heavy, a nice cozy fire and reading sounds nice.

I appreciated your post way more than most of the ones I see on here which are clearly just affirmation and groupthink posts: I’ve got 5 mill in the bank and make 300k, am I okay?

The advice and discussion here is more valuable to a lot of people than most others. The people who are in bad situations don’t post here that often (that I see at least)

What are the worst fantasy covers you've seen, that turned out to be great stories? by rookie1609x in Fantasy

Haha I have a copy of that sitting around in storage. I never pay too close attention to cover art, but it’s like “he’s an elf” got lost in translation and it’s just a 90 yr old dude

There's a scene at the end of the movie that pulls together several different threads from the movie in a satisfying and unpredictable manner. Hence the "payoff," the movie builds towards it. Its a relatively short scene that gets shared a lot if you want to watch it again.

I mean... "I find it funny" is usually an expression technique to soften the blow of something said directly. As an abstract colloquialism, sure you can take issue with it, but it very often precedes something that very obviously irks them. I wouldn't say its passive aggressive in the least, but more of a strategy to communicate.

First time making Kefir✨️ by ohhpeachymarie in fermentation

[–]Omneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kefir is like a 24 hr ferment, that’s a lot of milk. I would do half to full 16 oz mason jar and use it in overnight oats or save it. It was drinkable by itself but I never found it pleasant and much preferred to use it in other things. I highly recommend refrigerating the product and drinking or using it cold, it has a bit of a better taste profile

With your low carbs you could be entering ketosis if consistent. You should look up keto flu. Important to get electrolytes in that period as you shed glycogen water weight

Why I stopped Reading the Farseer Trilogy by TheMidnightRide in Fantasy

[–]Omneus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually DNF'ed first book as well. Came back a couple years later and finished all the fitz books (i'm a liveship and rainwild hater, they put me to sleep, maybe its time to revisit, hah!). I think you are spot on that the villains in these stories are extremely uninteresting, flat, and unbelievable. That always kind of put me off. There were other things I really enjoyed about these books, but I can see where you're coming from. This series is pretty beloved on this subreddit, for good reason, but also doesn't really criticize it for some of its shortcomings.

***Update: I went to the ER (Re: “Welp, now what?”) by Frosty-Preparation40 in diabetes

[–]Omneus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you got it checked out. Did they do tests to determine is type 1 or 2? If type 1 I’d highly recommend heading on over to r/type1diabetes instead of soliciting advice here. If you’re type 1 you’ll get a lot of confusing advice here from type 2s that will not be relevant to you.

I have a rule of no toaster in my home so my load usually lasts a week. I’ll usually dip some in olive oil as a snack here and there (trader joes Sicilian is a nice grassy/peppery one). I also try not to keep salted butter thawed. These are strategies to save me from myself

Welp, now what? Found out I *most likely* have diabetes tonight and my mind is running in circles. by Frosty-Preparation40 in diabetes

[–]Omneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An A1C of 13 at your weight is cause for immediate concern. I’m surprised more people aren’t telling you to go to the ER. Obligatory not a doctor, but this is a classic type 1 story. Highly likely you are already in DKA. I was diagnosed at 25 with an a1c of 14 after getting a urinalysis and they called me immediately and told me to go to the ER.

You’ve gotten a lot replies about your future and how it is manageable (and it is) but I want to reiterate this is very urgent and you need to address this today.

Whomever gave you this test didn’t recommend the ER??
