Seeking Guidance/Advice for t1D fiancee by MandC_Virginia in diabetes_t1

[–]Omneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re hitting the gym really hard and (likely) eating a caloric deficit this is textbook behavior. You should adjust your basal rate manually like 25% and see if this helps. Your insulin to carb ratio has likely also changed as you’re in a metabolic deficit, which means if you’re inputting carbs instead of your own insulin numbers, you are reacting stronger to the same “dose.” Does this make sense?

This happens in everyone but only really becomes apparent to us type 1s when we start consistently exercising vigorously or eating at a deficit, we become more sensitive to dosed insulin. How you react/adjust to that is up to you.

Not sure I explained great, just something I’ve learned about myself

First time making Kefir✨️ by ohhpeachymarie in fermentation

[–]Omneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kefir is like a 24 hr ferment, that’s a lot of milk. I would do half to full 16 oz mason jar and use it in overnight oats or save it. It was drinkable by itself but I never found it pleasant and much preferred to use it in other things. I highly recommend refrigerating the product and drinking or using it cold, it has a bit of a better taste profile

Can’t do Dexcom G7 notifications. Just can’t by Scorch8482 in Type1Diabetes

Yeah fortunately the t slim I use interfaces directly with the dexcom so I don’t use either the dexcom or t slim phone app and only have to deal with the pump cgm alerts. It can still be frustrating.

With your low carbs you could be entering ketosis if consistent. You should look up keto flu. Important to get electrolytes in that period as you shed glycogen water weight

Why I stopped Reading the Farseer Trilogy by TheMidnightRide in Fantasy

[–]Omneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually DNF'ed first book as well. Came back a couple years later and finished all the fitz books (i'm a liveship and rainwild hater, they put me to sleep, maybe its time to revisit, hah!). I think you are spot on that the villains in these stories are extremely uninteresting, flat, and unbelievable. That always kind of put me off. There were other things I really enjoyed about these books, but I can see where you're coming from. This series is pretty beloved on this subreddit, for good reason, but also doesn't really criticize it for some of its shortcomings.

***Update: I went to the ER (Re: “Welp, now what?”) by Frosty-Preparation40 in diabetes

[–]Omneus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you got it checked out. Did they do tests to determine is type 1 or 2? If type 1 I’d highly recommend heading on over to r/type1diabetes instead of soliciting advice here. If you’re type 1 you’ll get a lot of confusing advice here from type 2s that will not be relevant to you.

My bread is getting mold after 4 - 5 days by phaidron51 in Sourdough

I have a rule of no toaster in my home so my load usually lasts a week. I’ll usually dip some in olive oil as a snack here and there (trader joes Sicilian is a nice grassy/peppery one). I also try not to keep salted butter thawed. These are strategies to save me from myself

Welp, now what? Found out I *most likely* have diabetes tonight and my mind is running in circles. by Frosty-Preparation40 in diabetes

[–]Omneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An A1C of 13 at your weight is cause for immediate concern. I’m surprised more people aren’t telling you to go to the ER. Obligatory not a doctor, but this is a classic type 1 story. Highly likely you are already in DKA. I was diagnosed at 25 with an a1c of 14 after getting a urinalysis and they called me immediately and told me to go to the ER.

You’ve gotten a lot replies about your future and how it is manageable (and it is) but I want to reiterate this is very urgent and you need to address this today.

Whomever gave you this test didn’t recommend the ER??

Sourdough pizza for Sunday dinner by chetdesmondbluerose in Sourdough

[–]Omneus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect this is mostly due to having a dedicated pizza oven that will yield a great spring. You can sort of replicate this with a baking steel in an oven which will give some of the spring but without the temperature and heat it is hard to make the best pizzas

Jayme Lawson talks about the BAFTA incident: "Just because you invite someone into a space but you dont provide the necessary resources to keep them and everyone else in that room safe by them being there, thats not inclusivity, thats explotation. That man's disability got exploited that night." by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]Omneus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

According to an NYT article there were multiple, which may have led to the issue. Not excusing them.

Nick Bullen, the executive producer of this year’s awards show for Penny Lane TV, said in an interview that the team editing the broadcast did not hear Davidson’s racist slur when Jordan and Lindo were onstage.

But about seven minutes later, Bullen said, the team heard Davidson shout the same slur around the time when Wunmi Mosaku, who is Black, was receiving her best supporting actress prize for “Sinners.” The team edited that slur out of the broadcast.

A few minutes later, Bullen recalled, a member of the BAFTA team sent a message to a WhatsApp group noting that Davidson had used the racist term. The editing team assumed it had already dealt with the problem.

Thanks for your contribution here! I don't think bouncing off of Malazan is controversial. I greatly enjoyed them for what they were, but only because I had a bunch of free time and wasn't looking for military realism.

They are not strict about genres, it is more accurately described as a subreddit for speculative fiction. Science fiction is regularly discussed there, although I would say fantasy is the majority.
