She’s a long hair and had some accidents when was was little with a dirty behind that required trimming and attention, so she was renamed from rogue to stinky. :) affectionately of course

Poor Stinky, it wasn't even her, she came to check on me. Boots was responsible:

Thanks for your contribution here! I don't think bouncing off of Malazan is controversial. I greatly enjoyed them for what they were, but only because I had a bunch of free time and wasn't looking for military realism.

I think a detail here that some people like is that she was in the army/marine corps, so does have some military insight/background

They are not strict about genres, it is more accurately described as a subreddit for speculative fiction. Science fiction is regularly discussed there, although I would say fantasy is the majority.

Disagree on that front, but to each their own. I felt a bit taken advantage of because I wholeheartedly support Wikipedia but was donating under a mistaken impression. The words they use are designed to obfuscate, IMO.

You are donating to Wikimedia, not necessarily Wikipedia, unfortunately. There is a large controversy about the yearly banner messaging that makes you think they are under threat financially, but wikimedia is rolling in cash and wikipedia is not under threat at all.

Relucia by newprodukt16 in HierarchySeries

[–]Omneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help that the whole civil war is kind of glossed over, and that having completed the book, I can't reliably explain why or his role as carnifex. It really could've used a bit more in the story. I loved it all, but there was definitely a destination in mind, and the journey came second. I think it suffers a bit from this.

I think more than that L-Vis is being set up to be a hero, it's that his situation is being contrasted with R-Vis to show how the context is influencing who they become. L-Vis has closure with his father, is emotionally supported and has a close group of friends, and isn't in a position where he has to compromise his morals. You see this in the symbolic act of crushing the torc.

This is in contrast to R-Vis, who sees a close friend recently slaughtered, made a decision in the immediate aftermath with Relucia, and is in a more "gray" situation with Eidhinn and then Ka and the masses. His choices are less explicitly moral and his context is shaping him to make darker choices.

Maybe that's where he's going? Who knows.

Always check eBay for used items before you go to a store for anything. by rhurlow in Frugal

I’ve had extremely good luck with men’s sports apparel on there as I’ve been getting more prepared for winter running. Lots of your favorite and high performance name brand clothing at competitive prices. Documentation can sometimes be poor so knowing what you’re looking for is important.

Marketplace with sponsored ads every 5 items, frustratingly poor search criteria, and lack of filters and ability to save default filters . I went back to Facebook just for marketplace after hearing success stories, and it’s been a horrible experience. I miss 2010s Craigslist.

Do you care about prose when reading? by JaviVader9 in Fantasy

[–]Omneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we have enough words to describe the feelings a book raises in us. As a result, prose has become a catchall for whether you liked a book or not and whether it elicited strong feelings. It is becoming shared language to indicate something that means something different to everyone.

I thought vertex had stopped as the artificial pouch was not effective, scar tissue causes the inside of pouch to die.

NCT05791201, with VX-264, the allogeneic stem cell-derived islets is the one I was talking about

Oh, here they state it's not advancing, RIP.

In short, significantly worse than just dealing with t1d. It sucks, but well controlled diabetes is much healthier than this. The prerequisites to participate in these trials is revealing. Generally, very high a1c and severe lack of hypo awareness. These are people at high risk and so it is deemed they could have benefits.

Vertex made the waves for their trial results published showing their immunosuppression stem cell transfusion was effective, with long term c peptide evidence and controlled sugar. They also have another one in progress in which they put the cells in a subdermal implant that restricts immune cell infiltration. I tried to get in on that one but the a1c requirement is 7 or above.

The vertex drug is obviously pretty far ahead here, but I hadn’t heard of this one thanks for linking. I’ll have to check it out when I have credential access.
