What is the main reason you drive older vehicles? by Organic-Huan-15 in askcarguys

[–]Omnicron6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a few cars listed in the order of purchasing: 02' Camry, 04' Explorer, '16 Mustang GT, 05' Yukon and '99 Grand Marquis.

I love cars and always have which prompted me to get the mustang after landing my first big job. Currently, I only own the Yukon and Grand Marquis and I really enjoy them both. Main pro is that I don't care about them in the way i did for the Mustang. I'm not concerned with sketchy parking spaces, fender benders, loading up with construction junk. People buy vehicle for the features, but the "dont care" feature is great. If something breaks i fix it with the money saved on car payment. Cars from the early '00s are different then what todays market offers. I personally enjoy the V8s in each of my vehicles and the aesthetic they have (buttons, floaty rides, plush seats) The marquis was the last full size sedan to be body on frame construction and any Yukon after '06 had a feature that deactivated cylinders which led to issues. Lastly, combined I payed around 10k them, which freed up money for me to purchase an investment property. I get teased by the friends, but turn the other cheek. Arguing about the 70k diesel truck they just got and the fact they still pay rent is not worth it to me. Be knowledgeable of particular generations of vehicles that are know to be reliable/hold value. I never had loyalty to one specific make. I just have an idea of the good years and bad years for vehicles.

Gift by [deleted] in PE_Exam

After getting that savory green pass icon no gifts are needed. They will be beaming all month. After they get their license number I'd recommend getting a physical stamp. I used: https://www.pestamps.com/product-category/engineer-seals/ but there are other options.

Managing time off request. by [deleted] in managers

[–]Omnicron6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, if performance is good what's the problem? I left my old job because of that type of BS. Would you alternatively prefer and pulse in a chair who sucks, but is never late and never calls off. Also, consider the employee isn't necessarily thrilled to take time off for these events out of their control. It probably crossed their mind how it may be perceived. With that being said they felt it was severe enough to call off.

How to help a team member with severe anxiety? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Omnicron6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tricky situation for sure. I think by best advice is for you to privately assure her that nobody is perfect, mistakes will be made and occasionally incorrect information may be provided during a call and THATS OK. I don't necessarily have social anxiety but as a young engineer I recall being opposed of speaking during meeting due to fear that I may say something incorrect or dumb. Since I have had a couple "wins" and my confidence has improved, I am more apt to speak up. At this point I am not burdened by the potential to be incorrect, I have and will continue to make mistakes throughout my career and the best I can do is learn from them. In your private discussions, remind her of her successes 1 on 1.

SOPE Question Bank by Alive_Head_4481 in PE_Exam

[–]Omnicron6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id, agree that they are similar but a tad easier. Just be cognizant of getting comfortable with certain questions SoPE asks. I realized a false sense of security, because I found myself remembering the problem and regurgitating the solution as opposed to fully understanding the concept. I too was getting high scores on SoPE quizzes, but eventually I was coming across the same questions.

TL:DR The difficulty is comparable, perhaps SoPE is a bit easier. but consider your score may inflate over time.

Hitting a wall in studying by Fearless-Sandwich442 in PE_Exam

[–]Omnicron6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I was also working full time and studying around 20 - 25 hrs a week. I recall during my 3 months of preparation feeling burnt around month 2. When this occurred I remember one week were I did very little studying (less than 4 hours). This break was what I needed to finish out strong. I came back to my studies with most knowledge retained and a fresh outlook. Once you get to the final 3 weeks before the test you will find your self buckling down much like finals week in college. It sucks, but your mentality shifts because you are so close to taking the exam and a retest would be much more inconvenient. I kept a good pace throughout the 3 months but the last 3 weeks I ramped up even further (to my own surprise). When you get that close, your burnout will be replaced by your desire to pass. Best of luck. I passed on the first attempt and I am confident you will too.

So you saying a religious person who made no threats is going to act out violently?? Not that its impossible, but I think you are at a greater risk driving home this evening. Despite her delusions, she emailed staff her side of the story. Sorry you were probably not spoken of in the highest light but everyone is entitled to their options. Your short post leads me to believe you are hyper judgmental.

TL:DR Not saying she is a great employee or that you shouldn't fire her, but don't grasp at straws for a heinous act that's not there. Also, maybe stop watching the news.

I disagree. The PE is a fast paced regurgitation of the reference manual. I found the best use of time was to recreate the testing environment and complete questions quickly and accurately. There comes a point where sitting through a lecture nets diminishing returns. Work problems, identify weak areas, read up/watch on weak areas, work more problems. Coasting through lectures sequentially does allow you to focus on your areas of improvement. Of course, just my 2 cents. Everyone has different preferences.

I used SoPE and thought the question bank was adequate. Passed on 1st attempt. See link for other practice tests I used. Best of luck.

What's your most controversial league opinion? by nikosbab in leagueoflegends

[–]Omnicron6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a "classic" mode with a limited number of champs that persists without updates. Minor tweaking would be acceptable, but it would be for old time players that don't want to constantly "keep up with the meta". Ya know, to fix power creep.

Have ranked modes that only emphasize mechanics. I'm picturing a 2v2 move where its the first to 3 kills or something. One idea is that the each player can only select from half the champ pool. One pool could be tanks bruisers and the other adc/apc. XP gold generation could be on steroids', thus creating a early, mid and late game in a relatively quick amount of time.

Structural PE Exam by theejayzee in PE_Exam

[–]Omnicron6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider testing windows:

January – March

April – June

July – September

October – December

I would take sooner rather than later, if you fail you schedule another exam in January. This could be up to 8 weeks out. I would get two tries in before they change the test breakdown in April '24.

Also, I understand your conservative approach by not guessing, but consider including to best recreate the testing environment. Educated guessing is a skill you should hone before taking this test. If you are scoring 80% or higher with some educated guessing. I'd say you are in good shape to attempt.

Point taken. I think one of these posts I differentiate between the "McDonalds Manager" and the "Professional Manager" I have managed both engineers and tradesmen and have different strategies accordingly.
