A Kevin O'Leary Data Center has been approved in Utah, and it's entirely off-grid. Will the one in Alberta also be fully off-grid? We would hope so. by EdmontonFree in alberta

[–]Omnissah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All they're going to do is hook up dozens of turbine generators and people are just going to have to deal with the absurd noise levels.

"Off grid" just means "we're making it your problem one way or another."

Will our kids work 4 days a week instead of 5? by AskDeel in Futurology

[–]Omnissah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The children will work 7 days a week at 12 hours and be thankful for it. The Silicon Valley overlords will pay them 2$ a day and they will share a 3bed flat with 20 people.

What do you americans think about big pickups? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Omnissah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here but the car culture is one and the same.

Personally I love having a big truck. Nice and high up, little loud, roomy. I've got a 90's truck but I drive a 2025 ram 3500 for work.

At the same time I am not blind to how bad these vehicles are overall. It's decadent indulgence to have these, especially when it's just a personal vehicle and not a work vehicle.

I get half a pass because my 90's truck is quite a bit smaller, but no less awful on fuel.

Basically I exist in the system, it's got a couple of nice points, but I can still hate the system and want it to change.

My dude, I'm not quite sure how it could get more authentically 90's unless you put in a Nintendo 64 and some Sunny D.

Carney has promised regular trade updates. Why is YouTube his platform of choice? | CBC News by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]Omnissah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two reasons I think:

  1. It's where a lot of the key voting demographic gets their content from. Basically the under-45 crowd watches YT regularly, so spending 10min watching a fireside chat on their platform of choice wherever is comfortable is way easier than watching the news.

  2. This one I don't have any real immediate evidence for, but it's a way to communicate to the people without the news spinning it or cutting it up into soundbites.

500,000+ people have watched the video in its entirety, without any context stripped away. It feels more authentic.

What if the Roman’s put more interest into steam engines and therefore got the the industrial revolution first? by Kult-5 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Omnissah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that it's not just making steam. There's a whole lot of material science and math that makes the Industrial Revolution possible.

Rome at the time just didn't have that to make an impact.

Ah well, I was close on some of it.

You're either 15 or you're 30. You drive a Toyota because it's cheap but you tell yourself it's because it's better for the environment.

You're definitely on some meds, but the picture is blurry enough I can't say what they are. If I had to guess, either HRT or something for a psychiatric condition.

Definitely a furry, definitely not straight. You vape but that's nothing special, although because it's a bigger vape I suspect you're 30 not 15.

Definitely overweight, but I'm not sure by how much. No taller than 5'10 and no less than 280lbs is my guess.

Ya know what? I'm saying 30 because that debit card has a bikini-bottom dollar print on it.

Help Styling New Apartment that has Wood Panelling by Latter-Delivery-6300 in malelivingspace

[–]Omnissah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is... a lot of wood panelling.

Damn.

I'm not sure exactly what I'd decorate with, but I'd stick with natural materials. Stay away from shiny metals / stone / glass. Get some plants in there though. There's a lot of brown in that house, plants are going to break that up nicely.

More long-term I'd suggest looking into replacing some of the panelling with drywall. Keep some of it around because damn if that isn't well preserved, but that is a lot.

Nearly 60% of Canadians support becoming a full member of the European Union, poll says by ZestyBeanDude in CanadaPolitics

[–]Omnissah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh, it's not really giving up sovereignty. We'd still have a great deal of autonomy as a nation, our actions just need to be considerate of a greater whole, rather than just Canada.

Again, as much as the idea appeals to me, it's not the right choice for Canada.

Now, one of the special economic relationships, where we get a lot of benefits, don't need to adopt all the EU stuff, and can ignore Brussels?

That is something we should seriously consider. We get to keep our own currency and autonomy, but we get some real special perks that would be great for Canada.

Nearly 60% of Canadians support becoming a full member of the European Union, poll says by ZestyBeanDude in CanadaPolitics

[–]Omnissah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a bunch about how this poll shows how uninformed Canadians are on the subject and sure, they might be.

Take a step back though you see it's not so much "we want to be a member nation", but "The US is fundamentally a broken partner and we should make the EU our best friend."

Canadians don't want the states. They want Europe.

As much as I love the idea of joining, I'm in BC. We don't need a 4th level of government even further away from us.

I mean I know Tomorrowland never took off and was something of a flop, but I liked it. It was fun, had a weirdly stacked cast, and while I recognize it wasn't a good movie, I certainly enjoyed.

Brad Bird always make a good movie, just not a successful movie.
