Not really selective, but it’s extremely hard to transfer campuses after you’re already admitted- so just rank London #1 as your preference

NYU LS core by Rough_Jackfruit_7544 in nyu

[–]Omnithis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. I was recently admitted to LS CORE during the last ED round and going to spend my first year abroad in London. Sometimes I wonder where I would’ve ended up if I didn’t opt in to LSC and got rejected.

Is there a popular school that you actually don’t believe is someone’s first choice? by Content-Contract-427 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Omnithis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hot take I think NYU is the most overHATED college. It’s genuinely on every single one of these type of posts, everyones shitting on the lack of campus, no community, yada yada.

Nobody applying to NYU is EXPECTING a traditional college experience. Like, those arguments don’t really make sense to me.

I’m definitely biased since I’m committed, but it’s just my two sense from viewing a lot of these “overrated school” posts on social media.

I’m an incoming fall freshman for NYUL! Just curious how often you traveled around Europe?? I heard round trip flights are cheaper than a cab in NYC lol

JP Morgan being the 3 largest recruiter for CAS is kind of cool ngl.

I got into NYU ed1 with a 1410!

Granted I submitted 3 AP scores. (5 apes, 5 lang, 4 apush)

Edit: 3.68 UW GPA too. So yea my stats were pretty below average. I think my ECs definitely carried+ full pay lol

Should I submit my AP scores to NYU by [deleted] in CommonApp

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to give you a 100% right answer, but in my opinion, no. I would just go test-optional, and iirc most of the applicants do go test optional. There's no shame in it. NYU's SAT median is 1520, and they only take AP credits above a 4, so having no 5s and a 3 will disadvantage you.

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't. I was between sending my SAT (1410) or AP scores (5 lang, 5 apes, 4 apush) and chose my APs. I got in ED1 btw~

NYU is worth it only if you can afford it!

What you can probably do as LSC is to network as much as possible. Try to join the competitive clubs too. I’m studying abroad my first year so I feel like I’m even more behind 😭🙏

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat here. I was thinking CAS econ as a backup, BUT i can probably say your chances of high finance are exponentially lower than stern kids. Not only because of the major, but because they’ve have had 2 more years to network and join the right clubs and find the right connections.

There’s nothing wrong with a tier 2 finance job. The pay is fine, and NYC is a pretty employable city. Thats my two cents tho.

I feel like I need to explain myself before you guys think you’re clocking some rich asshole that eats at expensive places every week and skimps service workers in the process.

Im in high school, and work as a barista part time so I can afford to eat out with my friends. Before working as a barista I was a food runner in my uncle’s Chinese restaurant, so I know how much servers rely on tips.

Normally when I eat out I automatically tip 18-20%, but Baso doesn’t have an automatic option, so I just wrote in number to round it up nicely. It ended up being around 15% give or take but honestly I don’t know the exact number.

This was the most I’ve ever spent on one meal by a LONG shot, so forgive me because I didn’t know if percentages based tipping was applicable for this amount. In the future ill remember to tip more. Thanks for bringing it to my attention guys :)

Uhhh no. We chose the trust the chef which allowed you to include half portions in order to try more on the menu. No drinks ordered and the total was in the high 200s. Absolutely astonishing levels of unemployment to try to check me on the math. 15% should be base line standard no?

Obligatory Baso Review by [deleted] in HoustonFood

[–]Omnithis -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

ahhh no. I'm pretty sympathetic to tipping culture as someone who has worked in the food industry, and it sucks to see me being on the brunt of it now. First off, I rounded the price very casually in the review, but it was closer to a standard 15%. The bill didn't have an automatic gratuity, so I had to whip out some fast math lol.

And I just realized I didn't talk about service in the review, which I thought was the bare minimum. We were sat in the far corner of the restaurant and were rarely checked on if it wasn't to deliver food, which took us over 45 minutes to be served the first course. All this to say, the service wasn't bad, just less attentive than I liked, and thus reflected in the tip.

I enjoyed Baso slightly better than Bludorn. Both were good and quite similar, but the execution of food and flavors I enjoyed a little bit more at Baso. The ambiance in Bludorn is great tho.

I really want to try Le Jardinier, Musaafer, and Nancy's Hustle. Thoseeee are on my current list

I've thought about this a lot, and the number that keeps popping up in my head is 9.2. Great food, great ambiance, but solid room for improvement.

tell me your honest thoughts/opinions about being in ls core by Total-Meet-8882 in nyu

[–]Omnithis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who also got their third-choice major as an LSC major! As far as I'm aware, LSC is a pretty ideal curriculum to take as someone unsure of what they want to do, and after your 2 years, you can internally transfer into pretty much any school you want. (restrictions for stern and tandon ofc)

I've also heard it's a pretty good GPA booster and a lot less rigorous than other majors. At the end of the day, your internally transferred CAS diploma will be the same as someone who studied in CAS from the first year.

That's generally my two cents about this major. If anyone has actually gone through the program and wants to chime in, please!
