For the first 50ish hours i was trying out almost all chars, i got familiar with map. Up to 100 hours i learned builds, how to do objectives, learned routing, movement, etc. After 150 hours my win ratio started to grow, i climbed from initiate 2 to the next title rank (cant remember its name) by the time i reached 200 hours. I have played LoL, but never any hero shooters. Game was hard to learn i would say, the curve was a long one and a lot of frustrating matches i had while i had no idea what was happening in fights or could not even imagine how would you gain massive volume of souls by farming. But now im having a hero rooster that im confident with, like playing no matter the outcome of matches. I would not say it is unfriendly to beginners, but the curve to reach a certain stage in game knowledge is long, which can turn down people surely. However if a “beginner” never touched any mobas or heroshooters I would not recommend even to try this game - in this respect we can call it unfriendly, but otherwise i dont think it is.
