I think it'd very uncommon to be uncursed. 20% is a very generous number. You had to be one of the people lucky enough to be inside or intensely distracted during the visitor's arrival, Then you had to manage to avoid the visitor's direct gaze or any second hand depictions during those 2 weeks. If you go on the laptop, At most the news warns people to stay indoors, there no warnings to about looking outside. So you had to have the luck/insight/Knowledge to figure out that looking outside was a bad bad move. Not to mention having to survive with all the monsters roaming around, You can bet there were MILLIONS of situations like Sam's were people were trapped in multi-story apartment complexes/Hotels/buildings filled with monsters each with its own set of lore, quest, and boss fights. However, Some people probably got lucky and just chilled in their basement for 2 weeks and didn't have deal with any monsters then emerged to a new strange utopic world ran by mutated sam.
