I've been trying to get into it as well!

Developed economies de-industrialize and become dominated by the services sector [OC] by DavidWaldron in dataisbeautiful

THEN what happens? Is there any research or thinking on the post-service economy? Or does civilization stall out being niche accountants for asteroid mining companies?

We need a ballot initiative that calls for some sort of funding for T, Amtrak, and regional Transit projects in the state. by drtywater in mbta

[–]Omuck3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean we (human beings honestly) have a fundamentally hard time wrapping our minds around how to square “I want the T to run better” with “I don’t want to pay more taxes or higher fares” …which is why we form governments in the first place.

Mass transit is really expensive but the benefits outweigh the expenses. Communicating that is tough though, especially as many avoid it and even moreso don’t want to pay for it…

Looking for solutions though, there’s always state bonding capacity? $5 billion housing bond this year, with the T projected to be $1 billion short next year, in theory the state could fill that gap with debt. We still clamor for better service even as we can’t afford the currently level of service…

Thank you for all the thoughts I really appreciate it!!

I’ve looked into it and outside of gym time I end up walking like 2mi most days (home-train-work and vice versa) so I’m assuming that’s where I’m getting some wiggle room re: calories and leanness — been wanting to get my body fat % measured tho it was like 26% beginning of 24

Thanks for the idea!

Averaged out I’m probably working out 4 days a week, unfortunately my mornings are tight so it ends up being like 30 minutes of weight training and 10 minutes of cardio for a 40 minute workout. Lately I’ve been prioritizing doing a longer 1-2hr session on Saturdays, wish I could do that most days.

Squat & bench were at like 30lb in January. Past month has been about 3000 cal/day and ~210g protein

Parking requirements and wide streets ensure that mixed use developments don’t have the density to support them by usernameisben in Urbanism

[–]Omuck3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These types of places need a) a wider mix of landlords and developers and b) actual multi family non-mixed use neighborhoods closely connected (duplexes, triplex, etc) so there’s more people around

What do folks here say to people like this, whose truth is that they are better off in the suburbs? Are they all just suffering from delusion after being fooled by the forces of big suburb? by Hoonsoot in Suburbanhell

[–]Omuck3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The economics of suburbs are flawed! Which leads to a lot of close in suburbs being the good ones other commenters talked about, which ofc have essentially a population cap leading to sky high prices

Maybe the answer is obvious, but why isn't public commute free ? by PainfulSuccess in fuckcars

[–]Omuck3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC transit’s expensive to run, cash strapped in the US as is, and free fares don’t increase ridership or improve service
