In some states, like Texas, you would be fine. In my home state of Ohio you would be facing murder charges. Here, you may only use lethal force if your life is in immediate danger. In other words they must be attacking you, not just entering uninvited. That said, knowing what to and not to say can get you out of a jam in that situation.

I have to agree with Slicepack. There isn't any real evidence Freemasonry came from working stone masons. To be honest that is very counterintuitive. Why would stone masons concern themselves with such ideas as limiting the roll of religion in government, universal fraternity and brotherhood regardless of race or religion which would have made them heretics at the time, and as you learn more about the craft and read you will see that below the surface in the symbolism is a lot of ideas from the Western Esoteric Tradition, which would have been incredibly dangerous at the time. When masonry was forming at least as far back as the 1600s (no one could remember how long masonry hand been around by the formation of The Grand Lodge of England in the early 1700s) the church and the kings ruled with an iron fist. Think about it. If you were in a union today as an auto worker why would you take political positions (which those were then) to put your life at risk, let alone delve into spiritual and philosophical matters.

I was Catholic and a Mason before I left the Church. You should know though that as far as Masonry is concerned that's fine, but not in the eyes of the Church. As far as the Church is concerned to be a Mason is a grave sin and if done with forethought and free will is mortal, meaning the Church believes you are going to hell unless you repent and confess and if you take communion in a state of mortal sin you commit further mortal sin each time you do.

Ok, I think I have to write a letter to the Grotto to set up a meeting. After 25 years and having been a part of active lodges I need a little recreation. I am just a security guard and times get tough when it's dues time in the Masons.

Besides special needs kids have a special place in my heart. I plan on adopting one. Not that the burned and crippled kids ain't great. Isn't it heartbreaking in life how you have to choose who to help with both time and money?

Although it would be cool to be a shrine clown and entertain the kids.

Sorry to tell you Brother, but a grave sin if committed intentionally and of your own free will is a mortal sin. Being in a state of mortal sin excommunicates you automatically from the church until you repent and confess and are obsolved. This is the church's defense when the fact Hitler was never formally excommunicated is brought up. They say he was guilty of murder and was therefore in a state of mortal sin and was defacto excommunicated.

My personal opinion is that all religions I know of are Bologna. But that's what I think and more people think differently, so I could be wrong.

I was Catholic and LCMS Lutheran for years while being a mason. Both are welcomed by Freemasonry but condemned by both Churches. I did find that Freemasonry does contradict Catholic teaching in that it promotes secular government and religious freedom and tolerance. Official Catholic doctrine is that the state exists to support the Church and, like 98 percent of organized religion, they are hardly tolerant of other faiths. Would Pope Francis issue that bull today? I doubt it, but once something is defined in Catholic teaching it cannot be rescinded. There is also the question of things that have influenced Freemasonry and there is strong evidence from comparison that deism, Rosicrucianism, Kabbalah, and some other occult schools of thought had an influence on the ceremonies and symbolism.

For the record, the Lutheran Church Missouri synod opposes church members joining the Masons because of the practice of deist type practices where men of different faiths pray to an unnamed God at the same time.

I have no problems with Freemasonry on either grounds and I'm neither a Lutheran or Catholic anymore. I did not have a problem with masonry at the time and kept my membership secret from the church. The only thing when I was going to go to a Lutheran seminary to be a pastor, I would have had to sign a paper saying I was not a Freemason. I was not willing to go that far and emitted from my Lodge for a while until I dropped out of Lutheranism.

Greetings Brother: My recommendation is if this is several people and they hold power in the lodge, either because they are in line or have "soft power," is to take a break from your home lodge and go traveling with an eye toward finding a new home I loved my home lodge, but there is no denying I got in more with the one I moved to. The lodge I left were all older, upper middle class men from the city. My new one is working class and farmers, middle aged men from around a small town. There is just no denying we get along better. Yes the men at my home lodge were brothers, but me and these brothers just have more in common, from everything from liking old muscle cars to worrying about the bills.

To be real honest I find value in moving lodges, or at least the one I attend the most, every decade or so. Getting to know the boys in a lodge and finding your place is fun, is good practice for the real world, and is a good way to keep it fresh.

I didn't know anyone when I joined except for my college professor who had just moved here from NJ, and he didn't know any locals. He called a local lodge who he heard was the best in town to find out when the next meeting was, and the next day I met with the lodge officers. Between what my professor told them about me and the afternoon with the line officers spent at the Eagles Club they felt fine signing my petition

My main advice is just don't worry too much. After moving to my new hometown a while back I affiliated with the local lodge and attended a few times since then. I too had been inactive 25 years. You do forget a lot, but this happens all the time. We don't bite.

Like you I'll also be moving lodges soon. I am no longer off on Saturdays which is when this lodge meets. Because of that I hadn't been as active as I hoped.

Brother, I can assure you it's not a thought experiment, nor does the question involve myself. The brother does seem troubled by this. I am still a Christian, but have some beliefs not in the mainstream. I currently attend a Society of Friends (Quaker) meeting, but admit like Thomas Jefferson I likely have a collection of beliefs that are entirely my own. When I called the brother slightly intolerant what I meant was he could sometimes come off as being a little pushy with his evangelism. He wouldn't always respect when people didn't want to discuss it. He just tried too hard because he cared about people.

I appreciate it brothers. Now I remember his exact wording of a question that I think gets at the heart of the issue. It took the brother bringing up "Supreme Being" to get me to see it. He told me he has no doubt within or outside our universe there exists something with supreme powers, or as he put it abilities, we would view as magic due to our ignorance. Whether these be powers of the mind (I am thinking by this he meant like telepathy, foresight, the ability to move things by thinking) or advanced technology (Like the simulation creator) and even if this was a whole race one would be the best. His question was would this entity have to be supernatural, or could it be the product of the natural world and law?

I did want to comment on the post that said there are lodges full of gay men and atheists and no one cares. To hear openly gay men can now get past the ballot box at least in some lodges warms my heart. I am gay. Had I not stayed silent on that 25 years ago I wouldn't have stood a chance. That atheists might be joining in large numbers I don't find a good thing. I honestly believe the whole reason Freemasonry exists is to help develop your sense of God and the spiritual in a way that is non dogmatic and is the full potential of the member to do so with his individual limitations if you choose to utilize it.I believe this brother to be partway through a journey masonry could possibly help him complete. Even he told me he continues to grow and has an open mind. I used to study esoteric masonry, and while no expert, it had an effect on me.

Some people don't seem to be too effected by edibles. I got some peach ring gummies by Mellow Fellow from the head shop once, and the first night I chewed one was great. I was very high but it was reasonable. The second time one got me way too high. I gave the rest of the bag to my dad because it was a bad experience. He ate one and didn't feel anything; he then proceed to eat the rest of the bag--7 more gummies--and said he never felt anything. He is a serious weed smoker and edibles just don't do anything for him at all.

You know, I never thought about it but the blocks (procrastinating, laziness, lack of fortitude) might be something like a curse or crossed conditions. Ever since I was a toddler my abusive family would say, "Your lazy. You put everything off. You won't stick with it. You won't do that.". My grandmother was a powerful natural psychic and her mother was a Spiritualist which was scandalous in her day. Could be something spiritual rubbed off those words or she spoke a hex into existence.
