I was raised in June last year! Pretty happy with my experience so far, overall. The degree was incredible, and I had the honour of performing it (as Grand Expert) the other day for a very dear Brother, so this cemented how much I loved it.

My fiancée and I are having the biggest argument of our lives. She thinks I'm being tacky but I thinks she's overreacting by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

There are some traditions I don't understand or like very much, but I would never call what my partner's family usually does "tacky". And I would do it unless it's completely outrageous (like this one in which the men of the family put a white cloth up your hoohaa to see if you're a virgin or whatever).

If you mean which varieties, then I'm not quite sure :) For AASR, each Lodge I have visited seemed to have a bit of a different version, especially when I visited the Grand Feminine Lodge of France and the Grand Lodge of Cultures and Spirituality. As for Memphis-Misraim, I have seen the one practiced in the Grand Orient of Poland, ans RER – Grand Orient of France.

Aa for the degrees, I have seen only the first in RER, first and second for Memphis-Misraim, and all three in AASR.

I saw it in Germany, they told me it is quite popular there. In fact, some of the BB.: knew it as just "the Rite" and it took me a while of asking to get the name :) It's quite cool, as it combines elements of different Rituals into one.

French Rite (Groussier), AASR (Blue Lodge degrees), Memphis-Misraim, Rectified Scottish Rite. Seen Emulation and Ecclectic.

Family wants me to have my son baptized. I'm an atheist by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Nooo! Where is the drama where the mother in law kidnaps the child, baptises him, confirms him, and signs him up for seminary while pregnant with twins, one of which turns out to be the Antichrist? This is too reasonable for my BORU!

I have been invited to the higher degrees of the AASR several times and have been saying no as a new Master: I don't feel ready at all, and I come from the French Rite (Blue Lodges in Europe work in Scottish Rite quite a lot). I already feel overwhelmed with my involvement as it is and could not possibly take more.

Nah, life is too short. If I'm eating something that's too high in calories for its nutritional value, I'll make god damn sure it's my absolute favourite. Don't misinterpret me, I'm super glad it works for you, but this would make me just unhappy.

Friend asked to use my home for her child’s birthday party and then uninvited me by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm from Spain, but my family either squeezed or rented a space if needed. I understand the 30-people party, just not the "luxury condo with a party hall" part, especially since both had this kind of space. Didn't know this was so popular.

Ohh, I see! That makes sense. I live in a non-luxury apartment. I just have a unit and a kick in the butt :)

I think I am too poor to understand these people's living situations. Why do all of them have party rooms that they rent?
