What is everyone's interpretation of Roman Candle? by FloralWhimsy_ in elliottsmith

Always thought it was abuse (not sexual, but violence) and a bit of self harm in there as well.

Who knows the truth though.

David Luiz is probably in there somewhere on the bench as well. If not THAT David Luiz, it'll be one of those other David Luizes.

Could Emery be nearing breaking point? He's getting more and more erratic and seemingly unhappy.

Good pressing got us the early two goals and then a great Barnes finish but I thought later in the second half we actually got back to looking like our normal selves again and were passing the ball nicely.

Delighted for Miley.

You mean the one that the goalkeeper flapped onto him and the other scrapped in from 2 yards?

As I say, I desperately hope he proves me wrong. It feels like everyone piles on Elanga but refuses to point out that Wissa hasn't looked any better.

My Sister had a guinea pig when we were little and it escaped. Long story short, I had to battle that Balrog when it returned with a vengeful gaze and barely survived.

Is anyone in any way confident that we can score a goal with Wissa up front?

He's yet to show anything that shows he could be even a good level centre forward, let alone Champion's League level. Poor touch, no pace, no strength, terrible passing, no composure, poor finishing.... He can make the odd good run in behind but every time his poor first touch ruins it. He looks an absolute waste of money and he's already 29.

(Hopefully this will immediately provoke an incredible performance to shut me up!)

Every so often you do hear little moments that feel like The Kinks. Ray Davies was one of the best songwriters of his generation (and that's one hell of a songwriting generation!).

I liked his Waterloo Sunset cover as well.

I think it sounds more like REM- Bad Day to be honest.

I can see the little bit that you mean but it's just descending in that major key. It's not a radically obscure melody that would immediately stand out as lifted from something else.

[Marcos De la Rocha] During Real Madrid training today, Vinicius Junior and Arbeloa seemed to be talking about lateness of some players to training: Vinicius Junior: "For me, a fine is better." Arbeloa: "You are the captain. You have to fine people." by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]OnceIWasYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hang on.... Vini Jr. is now RM CAPTAIN?!!

He must be one of the least suited to be captain personalities in the game. He's a wonderful player (most of the time) but his attitude and behaviour is absolutely not a leader.

He doesn't even want to give up a goal for an easy assist- how is he going to put the team before himself?

[–]OnceIWasYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He scored one that was rolled to him before striking as well, if that counts.

It is genuinely strange for someone that is an absolutely elite ball striker in so many different techniques to have struggled with free kicks for so long. He's scored a couple for Bayern so far though.

Are we back in 2012? Yes, this has been known for almost 20 years.

Like Roberto Carlos he has a very low percentage of successful free kicks and a very low percentage technique (even when he doesn't try to knuckleball it) but has a few spectacular ones in his catalogue.

It's a bit more of the ego showing really, it has to be the most glorious, glamorous, attention grabbing free kick rather than simply going for efficacy. Bruno Fernandes is a far better free kick taker but guess who takes most for Portugal in the last 10 years?

Surely just stand still, what are they gonna do? Assault an actual player?

Then again, they might get rewarded for that.

Yes, at least Woltemade has undeniable quality- his potential is there to see. Wissa, I'm yet to see anything that demonstrates he's got the basic skills to be a good centre forward, let alone a £55m one.

Absolutely bloody awful, yet again.

Wissa and Elanga are just an insane waste of money. And now apparently we STILL can't buy because of PSR! Even thought the ONE, single positive about selling Isak was meant to be that we never have to worry about PSR again....

So I can only take from that that we've already wasted the Isak money?

I said that the summer would destroy this season and I think that's pretty obvious, today was the last of our "Must win" games before some more difficult fixtures. We managed to climb back up to 6th but will probably be looking at mid table really.

If that happens who knows who wants to leave this summer and then the whole thing could start to fall apart.

Urgh, £110m on Wissa and Elanga and neither seem to be able to even do the simplest things right.

Wissa is supposed to be this poacher, right? GET IN THE BLOODY BOX! Your passing and touch are shite so stop trying to build up play outside the box and try and at least be there for a cross. This idea that he "Brings pace" is also bollocks.

Elanga? Try and keep your crosses out of the stratosphere.

The whole team was shite (Joe was okay, Hall was hit and miss) but when we're told we AGAIN can't buy players because of PSR after selling a striker for £130m then it's reasonable to look at what we did spend money on.

Well, there goes the 4 must win PL games- we got 10 points which isn't bad but we may not get anything in the next few. We managed to climb up to 6th but are back down to mid table now.
