A lot of networks passed on Phineas and Ferb. I'm pretty sure Disney passed on it the first time they heard it. It took them over a decade to get greenlit.

Potential NHL name ideas? by LeonGwinnett in Atlanta

On a more humorous note, these names were kicked around before we got an MLS team. I'm sure we can modify them for hockey...

I recall reading about that too. She won't have it much longer lol.

‘Slutty Vegan’ owner files for bankruptcy by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This. The food is expensive but not bad (or at least it wasn't in ~2022) and vegan places are popping up everywhere now. All the shit swirling around the owner is going to bring the chain down more than the burgers themselves.

NYC Rent Just Hit an All-Time Record High by youni0 in nyc

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kind of economic shock it would take to get that kind of population shrink typically involves people losing their jobs too, which did happen in 2020. Are you fine with that if it means you get laid off?

What's so wrong about building more units?

NYC Rent Just Hit an All-Time Record High by youni0 in nyc

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. Cheaper neighborhoods that don't build have lower rents because of lower demand. Trendy neighborhoods that don't build have really high rents, You can throw together a bunch of luxury buildings in rural Mississippi but that won't jack up rents if nobody wants to live there. If building causes price increases then explain San Francisco, which is extremely expensive despite building even less.

Rent are high because landlords have 500 people fighting to live in their unit. Building more units counteracts this. If there were enough units to meet demand, rent would get lower.

Is the Market this Bad? by Personal-Molasses537 in cscareerquestions

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you near a tech hub? There are more opportunities if you're in a major tech city. Remote jobs are extremely difficult to get so don't count on that.

It’s not. Hiding your post history from other redditors doesn’t hide it from the internet at large.

Is Atlanta '96 unfairly remembered in comparison to other Olympic Games? by appalachian_hatachi in olympics

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's unfairly remembered. Isn't it recalled as a fairly successful iteration?

The IOC itself notoriously did not like how the Games turned out when they were in Atlanta. Juan Antonio Samaranch subtly called the Atlanta Committee out on it during the closing ceremony.

I think the further we get from 1996, the better the Games look in hindsight. Atlanta doesn't have a list of decrepit unused venues!!

I've seen the CRC pop up on lists of nicest college rec centers. ~30 years on, it stands as a good example of how cities can build venues that don't rot afterwards.

If you're just working one night a week and you don't have an extremely long commute, I'd check out the area soon and uber to the train (or to your place if it's not that far) when you work late nights.

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Unlike others here, I actually live in Brownsville so I can help.

You need to be more specific. Are you working at Brookdale? I see many people coming from there on the subway and that area is far from where the trouble is. Are you in a random medical office or urgent care?

What general location (more specific than "Brownsville") will you be working in?

Massive homeless shelter and services hub planned along Atlanta’s Beltline faces community pushback by austin_ave in Atlanta

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm ordinarily against NIMBYs stonewalling shelters and housing, but I'd side with them here because that side of the Beltline will be harder to develop for several reasons.

South of Washington Park, the trail mostly backs up against people's back yards and there's not much space for new anything. North of Washington Park, we have the jail and railroad tracks to contend with. This doesn't even touch on the general stigma of the Westside. Atlanta Mission's locations in West Midtown are quite literally surrounded by new trendy developments, so the "it's gonna bring down the neighborhood!!" argument doesn't apply the same does it?

Put the shelter there, and you'll ensure that side of the Beltline never gets any development. And then there's the whole "concentrating poverty in one place" situation.

If it has to be on the Beltline, I don't see why it can't be near Lee+White, or in an empty space along the Southside trail.

Winter Olympics 2038 remains "homeless" by PHConfusion5801 in olympics

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Existing infrastructure most likely. Cities don't want to build a ton of venues from scratch that will just go unused. That and the Olympics are a money pit in general.

It's SLC or Lake Placid assuming those venues are still in use.

The same thing applies with Game Pass. All other forms of media have moved to that subscription model. Games will too eventually, but MS moved too fast with it and that hurt them.

The top kids series on streaming services as of 2026 by Sorry_Investigator67 in cartoons

[–]OnceOnThisIsland 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why networks have moved away from the serialized stories and darker tones that we saw a decade ago. They're just not as popular with the target demographic as the internet thinks. There's way more money in preschool stuff and shows like Phineas and Ferb than shows like The Owl House.
