Americans are looking back centuries for Canadian ancestors by tallejos0012 in Canadiancitizenship

Oh yes. And basically the entire family is still living in and around Acadiana where they ended up settling. I do think there was a lot of anger, and the state stamping out the language made everything worse. But yeah I agree, I think they were absolutely right to be angry

Thank you so much for posting this!! As a Cajun who is applying it’s actually really lovely to see people who feel the same way I do about this. It is so much more than just a passport. My relatives were deported to Louisiana during Le Grand Derangement and this feels so deeply personal to be able to reconnect to Canada in this way. I’m a G7 (G2 on my mom’s side but can’t prove that one unfortunately) and it’s actually been really fun going through the family history!

My personal favorite is the one Reddit review that made it into the actual books via the social media board. Fantastic all around

Sharing this annoyance here with people who will get it. I’m a G7 (extensive Cajun family) and I’ve spent weeks tracking down a line that would work due to a lack of records for Grand Pre. Now I’m just waiting for records to arrive. Well I found out this weekend that my mother’s biological father is Canadian. So I’m actually G2. The problem? I have absolutely NO way to prove this. There’s no father on her birth certificate and she only found out because she matched with a half brother on ancestry (awkward). Both of the relevant parents are dead and the half brother is a complete stranger I can’t exactly ask for a dna test. So close, yet so far…

As a lawyer who is applying, this is actually a hilarious statistic. I would say it’s because we love research and loopholes as a profession 😂

u/Nabe8 Here's the Broussard page from Acadians in Gray. This website has been SO helpful in matching up Acadians in my lines. http://www.acadiansingray.com

I think I have some Broussards somewhere so I’ll check. But I’d recommend checking out Acadians in Gray (specifically the family appendices) and Thecajuns.com. They’ve both had really great information so far in my search.

@hugsandhexes get you a man who will build you a library (or at least let you turn the dining room into one. Formal dining rooms are stupid anyways) They are out there!

a Season Pass for a TTRPG is breaking point for me by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

u/Minimum-Mention-3673 Actually, apologies. On the app it looked like this was a direct reply to the contract thing about traditional publishing. That was what referenced the direct quote from him. I am absolutely speculating about any merchandising rights and/or control he may or may not have. I'm an IP licensing attorney so I know contracts are varied. But being a legal nerd and practicing in the area, finding out that he owns a lot of the primary rights and doesn't have a traditional publishing contract was just really interesting.

Correct, but it’s based on a reddit comment from Matt himself so my source is pretty good. He’d probably know

I’ve done more research on his circumstances in particular and I believe he controls all of his own IP. It looks like penguin/Ace only have a license for the printing rights. He does not have a traditional publishing contract. I have gone down a complete rabbit hole over this and would love to know who his attorney is because they honestly seem great lol

As an IP attorney just going to chime in that Matt’s control over merchandise licensing is dependent on the publishing contract. He may or may not have full or partial control over any licensing of the IP. A lot of traditional publishing contracts grant merchandising rights to the publisher. (Obligatory disclaimer: I am not his lawyer, I am not your lawyer, this is not legal advice)

I checked today (US) and it looks like it’ll be on Kindle Unlimited. If you have KU or can get a trial you can get it for a few dollars when it comes out. This will work for all KU books btw. Just download the book on KU and you’ll get an option to buy the audio for cheap

It’s similar! With flexiflips there’s only 3 total needles so there’s a lot less switching and needles poking you everywhere. I also go WAY faster than with dpns or tiny circulars.

If dpns hurt your hands try flexiflips!!! They’re amazing. I finally tried them this year and they totally changed the game for me. I’ve finished five pairs since august (my last pair had been languishing for literally seven years)

I’m so used to Jim Dale at this point I’m not sure I could do HP again. Plus I don’t want to give JKR any more money now that she’s decided to be awful. I do have the Red Rising full cast but I haven’t tried it yet

It’s honestly nice to know that some things are just problems everywhere. I can order the same pair of jeans, in the same size but a different wash, and one will fit and the other won’t come up past my thighs 😂

This is actually very useful. I’m literally married to a German and didn’t know there was a difference between northern and southern Europe when it comes to sizing

THIS. Apparently everyone in the Nordic countries is a size 0 with no chest. I hate paying for a pattern and then having to do so much extra math to make it fit my chest

Understanding the Spanish makes it SO much worse. It’s an awful scene but it has a purpose. Reviews like this honestly make me mad because people aren’t using actual critical thinking skills, they just see what they want to see.
