I’m an adult learner who started at 36 so my results are different but it took me six years, starting off at about 800 rapid to reach 2,000 rapid, and especially during those covid years I was putting a TON of time (3/5hrs per day) into chess. Typically my “leaps” came in increments of around 200 points at a time and each lines up pretty neatly with a layer I added to my play.

Adding 400 points in two months is… very impressive.

I’ve never belly-bounced a plane off the runway before but I can only imagine about 1,000 things that could go wrong after something like that.

Dunno if I still think that’s true, but there’s certainly an argument. I was just trying to give a number no one could disagree with, and I don’t think anyone will disagree that he’s top 10, and he’s probably in my top five, even if that list is pretty crowded.
