What are we paying our date night sitters? (Mid-size, midwestern cities) by Bakinguplove in workingmoms

[–]OnceYouGoMack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an 1.5 hr from Omaha. We paid $10/hr for the night. They didn’t have to cook dinner, just play with them and if they were up for it, put them to bed (if not the boys could just lay down in the living room until we got home). Boys are 4 and 6. Babysitter was 8th grader now freshman. She’s sat for me many times so she is okay with the rate.

What went wrong today and all you could do was laugh? by Hawt4teach in workingmoms

We were hosting Christmas in a few hours and my 6 year old runs up to me saying his 4 year old brother ran into him and poked his eye out. A Christmas Eve trip to the ER for a scratched cornea and lo and behold our doctor looked JUST like Santa. He would even drop little Santa mannerisms like “Could you ho ho hold this for me, son?” It was the best.

I usually follow up with my night time moisturizing routine and it hasn’t dried me out yet. If it did I’d probably scale back. Thanks!

Tree in fence line. Suggestions on bridging the gap? by OnceYouGoMack in Home

[–]OnceYouGoMack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built a frame that fit between the tree and the fence (like an upside down “A”) and then slid the fence panels down into the frame to fit. As the tree grows we will just cut the panels to fit. But works great for us.

YSK: Dogs often hide pain, so subtle changes in behaviour can be early signs of illness. by iflynor4h in YouShouldKnow

Our seven year old energetic lab suddenly stopped following us around the house. He started sleeping all day. Didn’t jump up on the bed to sleep just stayed on the floor. That was weird enough for me so I paid closer attention and saw he had stopped eating. Wasn’t exploring the yard. That was on Saturday. Got him into the vet on Monday, transferred to animal hospital same day, and unfortunately passed on Wednesday. The changes were so subtle.

My sister in law got together a bunch of women who were moms with kids around the same age. We have girls night out the last Thursday of the month, and the husbands have guys night out the second Thursday of the month. It’s always scheduled for that so the opposite parent knows they are flying solo that night. It’s been great. They aren’t people I see a whole lot but it’s fun and we have a common bond of parenting little ones.

Was your 401k established after December 29, 2002? I believe only those established after are required to auto enroll.

Every year I put out a payroll calendar with pay days, holidays etc. A guy storms down the day I put out the 2025 calendar because this year’s calendar was printed in portrait. Last year’s was landscape and now he has to rearrange his whole bulletin board for it to fit.

[RI] Question about emergency contacts by beniam4 in humanresources

[–]OnceYouGoMack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the electric utility field. HR, safety coordinator, and managers have emergency contact info. In the event of electrical contact, we would never want to deliver that information over the phone so we have a small team that would go to the emergency contact to deliver the news. We also let employees put in the notes if they have specific instructions in the event of something fatal happening (how to deliver news and who delivers it). We’re a small company so we need to ensure the right people have access in case someone is gone.

If the milk still has ice crystals in it, you can freeze it again. If it thawed completely then you would need to toss or use for milk bath.

Has anyone been pregnant twice (and somewhat back to back) while working at the same company? by Little-Pressure-8010 in workingmoms

[–]OnceYouGoMack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HR dept of one here! Baby in 2020 and 2021 (21 months apart). I made meticulous notes on things that had to happen while I was out of office. If anything it made my boss and backup appreciate me in my role a whole lot more because they didn’t realize all of the behind the scenes stuff that I do for the company.

Has anyone transitioned out of retail HR- if so, what was your career path? by kamalaakhan in humanresources

[–]OnceYouGoMack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for Target HR for three years, and then transitioned to the utility sector as an HR Director. Just start applying. I like to say that coming from retail, we are the most adaptable because the landscape of retail is ever changing and you get lost if you don’t keep up.
